I’m not sure how this video does anything but point out the obvious – yes, major philanthropic donations are made by people who have made a lot of money in business. To immediately correlate that to a desire to take over education so that they can make money in it? Sorry, but this video points to no evidence of that.
Really, then you are sorely misinformed. Search for more information about amplify, inbloom, escholar and Bobby…they are not donating their time. Did you recently join this blog? You have much to learn. Check out the archives and read, read, read.
If I may correct your opening sentence: “. . . major philanthropic donations are made by PHILANTHROVULTURES who have made a SHITLOAD of money in business THROUGH MANY ILLEGAL MONOPOLISTIC PRACTICES AND UNETHICAL NEWS GATHERING TECHNIQUES.”
And if you don’t know to what I am referring read up on Billy the Goates and Rupert Murdich.
Excellent video, by David Sirota! We really need more videos like that out there.
Just wish Sirota had mentioned that the reason why the mainstream media don’t report about the profit motive behind corporate sponsored education “reform” is that they’re owned by people who have monetary interests in “reforming” and privatizing public education, like Murdoch.
What he did not say is that Garcia had $2-3 million against about $20-25,000 and in the Steve Zimmer situation just 11 people and organizations gave Kate Anderson, the darling of the privatizers, $2.36 million. UTLA did not put Zimmer over the top as he won by 2.1%. Jeneen Robinson had 8,000 votes and she asked her voters to give her vote to Zimmer. This was to prevent what I call the “Nader Effect.” If Nader had dropped his ego and dropped out of the race for the best interests of all his 5,000 votes in Florida would have meant that Bush would have lost and Gore would have been president.
Let this race at LAUSD be a lesson for all. If you have someone running against one of the privatizer corporatizers and that race becomes more than one against them all competitors need to get together and figure out who they can support and do that to stop the real damage. Zimmers race has proven this. Now we have one more in a runoff in the San Fernando Valley. This race can have large implications in the board vote in the future. As it is now as a result of the vote by Zimmer Board President Garcia, who has had an unprecedented 6 terms, will never be board president again as the board just passed a resolution that no one can be board president more than two terms. All school districts should have this rule to prevent what we have and that is a dictatorship.
It all came down in Florida on the chads, the governor and the secretary of state and then our corporatist Supreme Court. In the end Nader’s 5,000 could have countered the chads. Gore elected because of electoral votes not what state they came from.
By the way the L.A. Times and L.A. Daily News’s reporters are told to not write the real education stories. Our reporting here is terrible and now the Koch Brothers are talking about buying the L.A. Times. Tragedy, as if it is not bad enough already. I rely on my own research as it is way beyond any reporting I see. By the way, it is all documented. I never go in public unless I have the goods. Then I hammer.

George,
The “Nader Excuse” doesn’t hold any water. See: http://my.firedoglake.com/jest/2012/08/26/debunking-pathological-myths-of-the-2000-election-part-1-cnn-exit-polls-prove-that-nader-did-not-cost-gore-fl/ Gore couldn’t even win his own state.
