A question from a reader:
“Des Moines Iowa needs some advice.
“Des Moines superintendent candidates narrowed to 3″
” Carey Wright, chief academic officer of the District of Columbia Public Schools.”

Stay away from Browder. He’s about to leave an Alaskan district high and dry after being on the job for 9 months, most of which were spent making cuts.

I agree with that. No job jumpers! You need some loyalty to place.

At least Ahart is from Iowa and doesn’t seem to be job hopping.

I’d be worried about anything coming out of DC. In Syracuse, the district just hired Jeremy Grant-Skinner as the “Executive Director of Talent Management(!!!???)” I guess we’re getting ready to put on a play, like Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney. He’s a TFA alum, and lists on his bio Deputy Assistant Superintendent at DC Office of State Superintendent of Education – whatever the heck that means. His early pronouncements do not seem friendly at all.

Browder left his job in Florida after six months. Now he’s resigning his job in Anchorage after eight months. Someone seems to be asleep,at the wheel…either Browder or the Des Moines School Board. Nothing about this guy suggests reliability.

My first thought would be anyone out of DC has probably been brainwashed by Michelle Rhee. If any one of these is a fully certified teacher with education degrees and at least 5-10 years in the classroom that would be the one to go for. Also, the local person is in the best position to understand the schools.

Read this first http://www.adn.com/2013/03/02/2809203/anchorage-superintendent-is-a.html Also search for more articles on Adn about Browder. Seems to have a disturbing trend of short term employment. Made some pretty drastic changes to our district (cuts) now is leaving before having to watch them play out.

“The man who ran Des Moines Public Schools for the past 10 months will keep the job.
Des Moines school board president Dick Murphy this afternoon announced Thomas Ahart as the district’s next superintendent.”
Carey Wright and David Browder are still looking for another nest to fowl. Be alert, they may be attempting to nest in YOUR school district!
