Many people have written to ask for a link to Gary Rubinstein’s “open letters to ‘reform’ leaders.”
Those who read them say they are brilliant, and indeed they are.
As you may know, Gary was one of the first alums of TFA. He became a career teacher.
He teaches mathematics at Stuyvesant High School in New York City.
He blogs regularly and whatever he writes is worth reading.
He is one of the best informed and reasonable critics of corporate-style reform in the blogosphere.

Quick question
Have you come across any research that ties charter and reformers to the barons of the prision imdustrial complex
I have a hunch that their are some nebulous ties there?
Thank you
Google Corrections Corporation of America. Start digging. Read the articles on the NY Times about NJ’s halfway houses.
You will find it.
Diane, I thought this might interest you.

Reblogged this on Transparent Christina.
TFA used to be something good in the beginning then the big money came in and it morphed into what it is now. I can see someone starting with them back then as a friend of mine was one of the first teaching TFA people. Now it is ugly and not for teachers or students. It is interesting how easily money can change things with weak people.
I know a lot of educators out there and those affiliated with organizations like TFA read this blog. I implore you to also read Gary Rubinstein’s open letters to reformers. Ask yourself whether or not he’s asking good questions. You’ll see he’s very reflective and he has deeply thought about education. At least for me, it’s hard for me to dismiss him as “status-quo” or that he’s in this for the money. He’s just asking some really good questions and making very good points.
