Here is a great new parent and community group supporting strong public schools in Tennessee.
Please check it out.
Are there active parent groups in Memphis? Chatanooga? Knoxville? Other cities and towns?
Please write to let us know.

I would like to make you aware of the California Title 1 Parent Union now to become the California Title 1 Parent and Student Union establishing itself throughout California. This Parent and Student organization has filed and is in court against LAUSD for $2.5 billion for the improper use or Title 1 funds in both Federal and California Superiour Court. Parent and Student rights are being taken away throughout the U.S. and it must stop. The idea for adding student to the organization came about as a result of a student created idea for more student input into the decision making for K-12 education. Many students know more about what is needed than the adults who many times have other agendas than student needs and concerns. We need more students who are creative and want to help therefore The California Title 1 Parent and Student Union. They are on the web and please contact Yolande Beckles and Walter Richardson to find out about both the lawsuit and the organization. They are real activists and have a long history in education in both the U.S. and in Europe.

Excellent! Everywhere else–& what else: Nancy Grace quote, “Unleash the lawyers!”
That’ll put a stop to this chicanery nationwide.

Diane (and anyone reading this blog),
Is there anyone who (are you?) is creating a database nationally to unify all that’s going on in these education debates? There are so many groups out there — PAA, SUPE, this one you’re blogging about, and others that you’ve blogged about…..but they’re all grassroots, and they likely have a small circle of people.
But I think these people need to be able to communicate and contact each other in the way that the education reformers are able to. They can share best practices, learn from each other, and encourage each other.
Perhaps a message board where people post questions and others respond? (although sometimes they get out of hand). I’m sorry I have no skill with this idea! Someone out there must!
