Jon Stewart is public education’s best friend in the media.
Maybe because his mother was a public school teacher.
Of course.
He interviewed the director/producer of the wonderful film “Brooklyn Castle” and one of the lead students on the school’s chess team.
It will be your heart good to hear the student, Pobo, talk about how great his teachers were and why people shouldn’t pay any attention to the rating systems that label them “bad.”
He says, “I LOVED my teachers!”
Stewart asked why New York City was willing to cut the funding for the school’s championship chess team while not cutting the amount of standardized testing.
We all wonder the same thing.

How can we approach Jon Stewart about becoming an advocate? His voice would be a game changer.

This show–and the fact that he interviewed me–is one of the ways he is helping us. I am sure he will do more. He gets the stupidity of what is going on.

To all those who worried about a movie that nobody was really ever going to see should spread the word about Brooklyn Castle: A pro-public school story that treats students, parents and teachers humanely. And its a good compelling story told well. Both my thumbs are up.

Thank k God, someones (there are a few on the tube, also Ed Schultz) are willing to stand up for teachers! I’ve been in the profession for more decades than I care to admit, and I’ve seen it all! But, what is happening under the direction of GERM is a calculated destruction of, not only public education into a private money maker, but also the destruction of countless teachers, savagely thrown to the wolves, not because they are the “bad teachers” so endlessly pounded into the public’s brain, but rather they are sacrificed on the altar of greed and the goal of producing future, unquestioning, robotic cogs in the corporate wheels. Denver Public School older teachers who have been unceremoniously shown the door for invented infractions such as “Putting a fish in the school’s freezer” and forcing another teacher to lie or forfeit her job, bogus evaluations that have no basis in reality, but, as the teachers’ union stated, facts didn’t matter, it was only her “opinion,” are now taking action and are in a major EEOC lawsuit for such outrageous, blatantly false destructive action, age biased actions. WHO is going to sign up in the universities for such a callous, cruel, law paying and even lower esteemed profession? Without our public schools and our unappreciated 60+ a week teachers dedication, what kind of banana republic will we degenerate into?
I would strongly recommend the article in the book, Censored 2012, which will lay out the goals of the international education scheme, “GERM” that promotes Charter schools and endorses the demise of public schools. Charters that are not besting public schools, but are being paraded as the cure, but are far worse than the disease! Just look up GERM on the internet, or much better, check it out in this enlightening book! Read that well researched and documented essay and try not to weep!

John Stewart et al. should parody “Won’t Back Down”. It could be a very funny segment!

When debating anyone defending the privatization or charterization of our public school system, suggest whether the judicial system or our law enforcement should be privatized and profit-driven as well. That usually stumps them.

Pobo did say that he loved his teachers. But he also said that his best teachers were the ones that were not teaching “to the test.”. I think that is the most important information and that the next thing he said was that those teachers were also labeled as bad teachers because they don’t teach to the test. We all know it and it was painful to hear but it also felt great that it was said out loud by a student. This is happening everywhere. I’m in Richmond, VA. Where do I get connected with others who are working on this nearby?
