Tony Bennett has conceded.
Bennett is the quintessential reformer: pro-charter, pro-voucher, pro-privatization. Anti-union, anti-teacher, surrounded in state education department by 11 TFA staff.
Head of Jeb Bush’s rightwing Chiefs for Change.
Rumor in Florida is that the state board of education wants Tony Bennet as state commissioner to implement the rightwing agenda in that state.
Congratulations to the educators in Indiana! Time to reform and rehabilitate your state’s education system.
Congratulations to Glenda Ritz, a genuine educator!

Yay! So glad!

Go, Glenda!
I feel for Florida’s teachers. They’ve already been in the same kind of situation as Indiana’s teachers, and if their state government foists TB upon them, then they’re really going to be in some pain.

I hope they don’t drop him off in Florida.
It looks like the charter school proposal is going to pass in Georgia.

Ms. Ravitch,
You provided critical support down the home stretch. Momentum was building slowly. Many Hoosiers, myself included, called on you for support. As blog after blog appeared on this website, a buzz was created: “Ravitch is covering the Indiana Election!” “Ravitch is supporting Ritz!” This was a vital energizer to the campaign.
My sincerest thank you.

She must repudiate Bennett, his style AND substance. His concession made it very clear, he has friends and operatives behind in the DOE and legislature.: can’t do much about one, but Ritz needs to deal with the Bennett acolytes in the DOE, pronto.

Congratulations Indiana!
But beware during the lame duck session – if you think Bennett is going to concede to popular will and go quietly away, think again. He’ll double down and try to do everything he can (much of it underhanded, like always) on his way out the door.

I have seen so many teachers go because of TB’s over sized ego and very unpopular ideas being forced on them. I hope that bully has a nice time packing up his office. I would be happy to help if ut gets him out the door any faster!!
