Listen to an excellent panel discussion, featuring the brilliant Dissent writer Joanne Barkan. She is the author of “Got Dough: How Billionaires Rule Our Schools,” which you should read.

Hi Diane,
I heard you this morning on Diane Rehm, and I thought you were the only voice of sense in what was otherwise pretty much a (pardon my language) circlejerk of privilege. I really appreciated you calling out all the half-truths and political distortions asserted by the other commentators. You’ve earned yourself a new fan.

Thank you. I had expected a balanced panel, but it didn’t happen. Imagine: me and three supporters of corporate reform, debating the issues.

From the article: “In the domain of venture philanthropy—where donors decide what social transformation they want to engineer and then design and fund projects to implement their vision—investing in education yields great bang for the buck.”
I think there is a typo in that sentence. I believe the author meant to say “VULTURE philanthropy” and not ventury philanthropy.

Nice typo in my response, venture not ventury.
