Post-truth is reality today.
Craig Silverman writes in Buzzfeed that more people linked to fake news sites than to real news sites in the final months of the election.
“Of the 20 top-performing false election stories identified in the analysis, all but three were overtly pro-Donald Trump or anti-Hillary Clinton. Two of the biggest false hits were a story claiming Clinton sold weapons to ISIS and a hoax claiming the pope endorsed Trump, which the site removed after publication of this article. The only viral false stories during the final three months that were arguably against Trump’s interests were a false quote from Mike Pence about Michelle Obama, a false report that Ireland was accepting American “refugees” fleeing Trump, and a hoax claiming RuPaul said he was groped by Trump.”
Naomi Wolf in 2015 said it is not crazy to assess news events to see if they are real or not real. It is no longer illegal to propagandize the US population with repeal in 2013 of the Smith-Mundt Act — US Information and Education Exchange Act of 1948 (public law 80-402).
This is shocking. No wonder people turn away from the mainstream media, which is nothing more than a propaganda outlet for their corporate owners.
Glenn Greenwald wrote a great piece for the Intercept on “fake news” stories: https://theintercept.com/2016/11/18/the-stark-contrast-between-the-gops-self-criticism-in-2012-and-the-democrats-blame-everyone-else-posture-now/
It’s time for Democrats to stop with the excuses and work towards betteri solutions. I’m getting really worried about losing more races in 2018 elections.
Please re-read the post:
post-truth. A 2000% increase in false news in just the last year.
truth – irrelevant.
God help us.
“A 2000% increase in false news in just the last year.”
The truthiness of that statement almost doesn’t deserve a comment.
Or my facetiometer is broken today.
More than fake news the real game changer may have been the roll back of voting rights act provisions. Check out Greg Palast’s analysis. Consider sharing that news.
This does not even include faux analysis. Most of the major news sources analyse trends in a way that borders on fake news in that they emphasize the exciting aspect of the news over the more boring explication of the reality. I avoid using the word truth so Dusne and Vonnegut’s ghost will not come after me.
