In case you missed the last week of the long-running drama and comedy series, called “Corporate America Wants to Love Public Education to Death,” EduShyster fills you in.
You will laugh and cry as you watch leaders of the movement tear their hair out as they argue about whether the mighty scam perpetrated by the virtual charter schools are truly “reform” or are they, well, scams.
You will snicker as you see the break-up of true lovers in the parent tricker biz in California.
You will laugh as you review the efforts of the “P” (privatization) movement say they never ever heard of the word, and all they are saying is give P a chance.
This is one of her best. She just gets better and better all the time.
How does she do it?
That is awesome.
I’m especially happy to see Romero is moving forward and leaving the astro-turf, Austin “parents” group behind. Also, Cody’s comment on Levin’s HuffPost article is outstanding and one that should be shared widely. Here it is…”The typical Ravitch critique is presented here, based upon a straw man, that asserts that Ravitch claims “all reformers” are greedy profiteers. Then attack that straw man in an effort to discredit Ravitch. Here is what Ravitch actually wrote in Reign of Error:
‘Some in the reform movement, believing that American education is obsolete and failing, think they are promoting a necessary but painful redesign of the nation’s ailing schools. Some sincerely believe they are helping poor black and brown children escape from failing public schools. Some think they are on the side of modernization and innovation. But others see an opportunity to make money in a large, risk-free, government-funded sector or an opportunity for personal advancement and power. Some believe they are acting rationally by treating the public education sector as an investment opportunity.’
Ravitch does, however, provide convincing evidence that SOME reformers are behaving in a way that is very harmful to our public schools. And she does so with great care for the accuracy and specificity of her claims — unlike this review.”
Maggie: as I see it, what is truly amazing is not so much that many of the leading charterites/privatizes are so cynical and self-serving, but that they seem to sincerely believe that the vast majority of the population are so stupid and easily mislead that outrageous lies and distortions will be accepted with little question or pushback.
For example, that critics of “education reform” believe nothing should be or can be done to improve public education until poverty is fixed. I do not recall ever hearing or reading anyone—from all over the political spectrum—asserting such.
Their contempt for the vast majority is proving to be their undoing.
It couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch of folks.
🙂
You can laugh hard enough to get a sixpack!
Excellent!
