Rick Hess believes that a report on the Tony Bennett grade-fixing scandal exonerated him. But Indiana parents and friends of public schools don’t agree. Here they explain that no one understood the school grading system and that Bennett was voted out of office because of his policies, not his style.
Somehow I suspect we haven’t heard the end of this matter. Waiting for the other shoe to drop.
The bigger question is why is Education Week giving this guy a forum.
Especially when he says this: “Let’s be clear; I don’t fact-check everything that an interviewee says in this kind of context. . . “
Someone wants to rehabilitate Tony Bennett, so they can use him somewhere else. Has he reappeared?
He’s still listed as a “member emeritus” of Chiefs for Change, and is still touring around giving talks.
Bennett, Bush, and their backers deserve a ZERO for the corporate reform debacle they have foisted on America’s public schools.
Hess is working overtime to improve Tony’s tarnished image. However, parents and teachers know the truth about the Chief of Changing the Grades.
We’ll see how the issues are handled as the other shoe drops.
How legitimate was this report? Do the people who wrote it have any obvious connections to the usual suspects?
I don’t see how Bennet could have admitted to having told lies about the school grading incident for six months and then ended up being “exonerated”. He was damned by his own words.
Does anyone else think that the names “Grew” and “Sheldrake” sound like they were lifted clean from the works of C.S. Lewis? I’m thinking of the Screwtape Letters here.
Exonerated for looking out for one type of school?? The were no secret emails from him worrying about other public schools the were getting low grades. Transparency after the facts are out, does not deserve exoneration.
Almost from the moment he took office, Bennett’s entire tone and public comments made it clear that he believed public school teachers were lazy and overpaid.
He has already left two state superintendencies. I hope he is finally deprived of a microphone, podium, and platform forever!
To answer the question: NO!!
