EduShyster has found a dissident hedge fund manager who writes pseudonymous posts for her blog. He or she writes here about the eerie similarity between schooling in Franco’s Spain and a high-scoring charter school chain called Democracy Prep.
What do they have in common? Read the link.
Perhaps the hedge fund manager has lived through a corporate version of Autocracy Prep and now recognizes it, once imposed on a public school filled with shiny-bright children. This is a real place and it is both heart-breaking and frightening. The “reformers” ban all criticism because the absence of contrary voices means the enterprise is successful, right? The PTO/PTA is shutdown to eliminate possible parent oversight and teachers are told not to encourage families to volunteer in classrooms. The self-declared “CEO – Chief Education Officer” and her stumble-bum team are incapable of Common Sense school administration so all imaginable forms of psychological and physical chaos simmer at the organizational surface every moment of the day. It plays out like the fall of a civilization once known as USA 2013. Perhaps one day, it will be included as a case study in the Corporate Crazy Common Core Curriculum unit on Early Civilizations – Idiocracy – What NOT To Do.
Nationalism is an infantile disease. It is the measles of mankind.

Franco is also an appropriate historical reference because, during his fascist revolt against the Spanish Republic, he urged his followers to form “Fifth Columns,” within Republican controlled areas, undermining them from within.
In education, the analogue is fifth columnist groups like Educators for Excellence – the recent recipient of a $3 million dollar Gates grant, started by TFA know-nothings who had a cup of coffee in the classroom – and Parent Revolution, which feign grass roots identity, and serve to destroy teachers unions (in the case of E$E) and take over and privatize local public schools, as with Parent Revolution.
Bueno, ¡el Generalisimo Franco todavía está muerto!
And hopefully we will be able to say the say about the edudeformer ideologies soon.
to say the same. . .
