From the NYC Parent blog:
Subject line: Join us Thurs 12 noon at City hall., July 18: No 4th term for
Bloomberg!
Dear Parents, grandparents and Education Activists,
I hope that you can come and help turn out fellow parents for an important
rally and press conference at noon tomorrow, Thursday, July 18, on the City
Hall steps to protest Mayor Bloomberg’s attempt to effectively have a fourth
term running the city’s schools.
The mayor is moving to cement plans for a dozen or more additional
co-locations that would start after he leaves office. We need to show that
the UFT and other city residents, parents and community members will not
allow a fourth term for Bloomberg.
We know it is the middle of summer and it is hot. But the Mayor and DOE are
busy now laying the groundwork for co-locations to start in 2014 after a new
mayor takes office. We must act now!
We will be joined at this rally and press conference by UFT President
Michael Mulgew , public officials and community organizations, opposed to
the mayor’s attempts to illegally impose his will on our students, schools
and city after he is out of office.
Join us! Spread the word! Let’s show our strength.
WHEN: 12 p.m. noon, Thursday, July 18, 2013
WHERE: City Hall steps
Sincerely,
Fran Streich
UFT Manhattan parent-community liaison

Nice of the UFT to care now but let’s not forget they supported him in the beginning, making the last 12 years possible. And they continue to press on. Is this more UFT smoke and mirrors or a real attempt to stop the 4th term.?
If you are in the vicinity why not show up, talk to some people and find out?
Do you really care what their motives are? If you don’t show up because of the union’s past perfidy, you will effectively endorse Bloomberg’s plans. You don’t have to trust the Union to try to stop Bloomberg. I would feel the same way. I’m just trying to be practical. My neighborhood is Chicago.
I also question the UFT when it endorses Bill Thompson whose education adviser is Regents Chancellor Merryl Tisch, If Thompson follows Tisch’s policies, we will have a 4th Bloomberg term.
(To get the lowdown on Tisch, read what Teacher’s College Prof Celia Oyler had to say.. https://dianeravitch.net/2013/05/16/professor-oyler-an-open-letter-to-my-students/ )
“Merryl Tisch has ushered through the Board of Regents many policies with which I vehemently disagree; these include: decoupling teacher certification and master’s degrees from university-based teacher education (approving Relay Graduate School of Education); allowing InBloom to collect and sell private data on each K-12 student in New York State schools; and requiring all school districts to tie teacher evaluation to Value Added Measures based on student test scores. There are numerous problems with using student test scores to evaluate teachers (Value Added Measures). See here, here and here to start.”
This nothing more than yet another theatrical ruse of the UFT meant to fool teachers and the public.
The UFT is rotten to the core. . . . Don’t trust Mulgrew and company.
Despise Bloomberg, but don’t think for one second the UFT is out to protect teachers. . . it’s endorsement of a candidate whose campaign manager is Merryl Tisch is a sad joke and a reflection of its true colors.
The UFT is in business for itself.
Join hands with MORE, an oppositional caucus to the UFT. Therein you will find real leadership and vision from Brian Jones and Julie Kavanaugh . . . . .
