This is a good move. Teachers College/Columbia is/was always a highly respected name, and when this Education Reform house of card falls, I believe those who are on the right side of this story will not be forgotten!
The more that we can point out “educators” that are compromised the better. Follow the money- it leads to the grim realities of the reform movement. Whether it is out of greed or zealotry, the truth seems to be a most unwelcome visitor into the lives of Fuhrman, Canada, et al.
Going there has been on the back of my mind since coming across a table at the West Mall at UT-Austin way back when I was a freshman. A colleague I highly respected went there for graduate work and TC moved to the front burner. This has definitely moved it back as well as moved a MOOC in front. At least an online course by a profit maximizing firm is consistent in wanting money and only money.
As a proud graduate of TC, I too have become disheartened at what is going on there. My time at TC was life changing, and had more impact on the kind of teacher I am than anything else. I want others to have the same.
This is a necessary step in helping to maintain the reputation that TC has enjoyed for many years. The corporate reform agenda is smearing the reputation of the college. Without a good reputation, the program is toast.

There is a lot of reputation smearing to go around. Many who support this may regret their lack of critical analysis of this whole initiative.
One could almost speculate that Obamacare was a “red herring” for Education Reform!
The incredible present and future impact on almost every single child in this country in both economic and non-economic terms is almost incalculable!
