This is what the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee said about Marie Corfield’s race in New Jersey, which this blog supported (thanks to Jersey Jazzman!):
New Jersey Assembly District 16 — Marie Corfield (Grassroots pick)
Status: Republican Incumbent
Why this Race Matters: This race received more grassroots nominations than any other in the country. Teacher and progressive education advocate Marie Corfield became a YouTube sensation in 2010 when her vigorous defense of public schools at a town hall meeting provoked an angry response from GOP Governor Chris Christie and an even angrier stream of abusive emails and Facebook postings attacking Corfield. In part because of that unpleasant incident, Corfield ran for state Assembly in 2011, falling just short of victory in a two-member district. Two days after that election, one of the winning Republicans passed away, triggering the appointment of an interim GOP incumbent who will face Corfield in a special election this year. This is the most competitive of only three New Jersey legislative races this year, so the spotlight is clearly on this race as a predictor of Democratic chances in 2013.
Great news. I was happy to support her. Does anyone have a link to that YouTube video?
Linda – you can find it here. It was through JJ’s site.

Diane…check out this on line advertisement for a referrendum coming up in Bridgeport, CT, where voting yes turns the school board over to the mayor. It is worded in a tricky way and if you vote yes, you are losing an elected board.
I wonder if Obama knows his photo is being used in this ad and the statement below it is attributed to him:
“We need to fix and improve our public schools, not throw our hands up and walk away from them.”
If mayoral control is a step towards privatization isn’t that exactly what they are doing?
How can we find out if Obama realizes he is supporting a campaign to take away an elected board?
See here:

By the way, the male teacher featured in this ad works at a charter school in Bridgeport.
That’s disgusting. Mayoral control did not improve NYC or Cleveland or DC. Just made it easier for business leaders to get the charters they want.
Diane
I sent an email to the White House. I want to know if they approved Obama’s picture for this propaganda. I probably won’t hear back. I am losing faith in this man. I wish we could make this flyer public. Thanks Diane.
Does this candidate acknowledge elected officeholders’ responsibilities under CERD (see link)? How many DLCC priority candidates will subordinate the human rights of schoolchildren to union interests? Shouldn’t these questionable priorities be addressed in high school civics classes throughout the nation?
U.S. Human Rights Treaty Reports: Memorandum for State Governors–Transmitted 01/21/10
From union members: “Dear Lord this year you have taken away my favorite actor, Patrick Swayze, my favorite actress, Farrah Fawcett, my favorite singer, Michael Jackson, and my favorite salesman, Billy Mays. I just wanted to let you know that Chris Christie is my favorite governor.”
Her youtube dialogue with Chris Christie noting NJEA’s unwillingness to help save teachers’ jobs
“How many DLCC priority candidates will subordinate the human rights of schoolchildren to union interests?” Wow, what an incredibly biased anti-union screed. Unions advocate for teachers and the things that they advocate for teachers help the kids, too. That supposed quote from “union members.” Which union memebers, how many of them and in what context????? Just a pile of garbage from a rabid union hater. Would you ban teacher unions, just wondering?????

And lets not forget the Reed case…
Expectations from high school civics class:
“identifying the major duties, responsibilities and qualifications required for a particular position … becoming informed about candidates and issues”
Perhaps union screening committees could equal the civic knowledge expected of high school students. The United Nations has some specific suggestions in this regard. Check out the memo from Harold Hongju Koh, legal adviser at United States Department of State.
BTW, when Secretary of State Hillary Clinton briefs committees of the United Nations on US human rights progress, teachers can vouch for her accuracy, right? Or is Dr. Ravitch correct that the Obama administration isn’t really addressing the urgent problems of the nations most at-risk schoolchildren?
The following reply to “Joe” awaits moderation; let’s see what happens if its posted here (as a reply to the original post):
