The one that got a laugh out of me was the one about PD presenters reading verbatim off their PowerPoint slides. My most recent PD involved an administrator reading a chapter of her Ed. D. dissertation to us.
That’s also my personal favorite. Because it’s so true. Just like the one about the PD in inquiry learning given by direct instruction. This stuff happens in my school nearly every time we have an inservice day. And the amazing thing about it is the presenters are so freakin’ clueless they don’t ever even get the supreme irony of it all.
I caught a PD presenter actually making up the stuff he tells to teachers, when he did a PD for my school district a few years back. The presenter fabricated an area of the brain, the “crockus”, and asserted other pseudo-neuroscientific mumbo-jumbo regarding gender differences, in order to promote his agenda. His PowerPoints are online here:
The worst part is that the presenter is still telling these lies to teachers across the country. (He’s entertaining, which seems to prevent people from recognizing his lack of veracity.)
Hats off to Wendy Lecker. Another rational person fighting the good fight.

I brought this to the attention of a university professor who then blogged about it. See External Links here:

Thank you for including the humor, Diane! I think we all need it right now.

Thanks for the laughs….and everything…
