We have known for years that Trump is egotistical. We have seen examples of his egotism repeatedly, from his renaming of the John F. Kennedy Center to his slapping his name on countless products and hawking them.
But this one takes the cake!
According to CNN, Trump make an offer to New York Senator Chuck Schumer: Trump would release billions in federal funding for a tunnel linking New York and New Jersey if Schumer agreed to rename Penn Station and Dulles Airport for him.
Schumer said no.
I read this online last night and thought it a joke or a smear.
It’s not.

Apparently, there are no limits to Trump’s egomania.
Republicans in Congress have been pondering whether to name a day for Trump as a national holiday or to put his face on a coin, although such honors are always limited to those who are no longer living.
I assume that Trump is so rattled by a sense of his mortality that he wants to assure that he will be immortalized by plastering his name everywhere.

BTW, if you don’t know who Dulles was, read The Devil’s Chessboard: Allen Dulles, the CIA, and the Rise of America’s Secret Government by David Talbot. Technically it’s about the other Dulles brother, but it has plenty about the one the airport is named after too.

It is always interesting to consider what lies in a name. In 1985, I visited the U of Georgia campus. There on the side of a building was the name Preston Brooks? The Georgia man who beat Charles Sumner senseless in the halls of Congress two years before the Civil War.

I was named after Trump. He was named somewhere around his birth. So was I. The former event happened before the latter. Ergo, I was named after Trump. Schumer needs me to help him with this.

Unless I missed it, this author did not relate that Marcus Aurelius is the last of a group called the “Five Good Emperors,” who had previously chosen their successor from a group of people considered competent. Marcus departed from that tradition and chose Commodus, his son. Unless, of course, he did not so choose. Perhaps the intellectually hapless Commodus saw the writing on the wall and seized his father’s sickness as opportunity.
One can only wonder at the rhyme of history involved in the Trump family on the rise.

Commodus, like Trump also liked to name thing after himself… After a good part of Rome burned, “He renamed Rome as Colonia Commodiana or Commodus City,” says Strauss. “He also renamed the months of the year after various names that he gave himself,” like Amazonius, Augustus and Herculeus.
