James Taylor, the notable folk singer, posted the following lyric on BlueSky:
THOUGHTS ON UKRAINE
Were we wrong about Zelensky, the hero of Ukraine?
Were we wrong to feel the brotherhood of freedom in their struggle to resist the unprovoked attack upon their young nation?
When they fought the bully Putin to a standstill with righteous resistance.
When they stood up to the tyrant and stoically paid the price in patriots’ blood, were we not thrilled at their courage?
How do we now turn away? To stand by, mute and cowed, as the men who would be king: Putin, Trump and Musk, huddle in their fortress and decide the fate of nations, shutting out the people they betray?
Is this what has become of the cradle of liberty, … and the home of the brave..? That we slide the hidden dagger in the back of those who were our champions? While our allies in the defeat of Hitler and Stalin witness our betrayal
in disbelief…

the last verse he wrote reminded me of Trump when he threw the Kurds away after they defeated ISiS for us. Contrast this when we have asylum to Moong, south Vietnamese and others who sided with us in that ill fated conflict.
Who can argue that we have not lost our way?

THOUGHTS ON UKRAINE
“I always hesitate to bring my political beliefs into this space. I don’t think my listeners would expect that from me and some of you will find it disappointing: not what you were looking for… But the recent reversal of our support for the Ukrainian resistance to Putin’s invasion motivates me to cross that line.

“While our allies in the defeat of Hitler and Stalin witness our betrayal“
We did not defeat Stalin. By most accounts the Soviets were most responsible for the defeat of Hitler. Without the Soviets I’d hate to think what would have happened.
Now that doesn’t sanction in any way what Putin has/is done/doing in the Ukraine. The CONVICTED FELON has betrayed the Ukrainians.

The Soviets were largely responsible for breaking Hitler’s back. They did it despite Stalin purging he best generals in the 30s. Russia is just too big to invade. The Tsars had long ago learned that their power needed to be accompanied by the occasional setting of group against group. Hence the pograms under Nicholas II aimed at getting people angry at the Jews instead of his own tottering regime.
I guess they are good at divide and rule.

The US was fighting a far-flung two front war in Europe and the Pacific against the Japanese. The Russians did invade the Kuril islands in 1945 and still occupy these islands today. The US did all the heavy lifting in the defeat of Japan.

God I hate Trump. He’s destroying what made us great.
I keep thinking of the lyric: “This is not America…”

It’s embarrassing to be represented by our current administration.
Here’s a song by an unfamous talented musician, but worthy of attention considering it supports Ukraine.

He was quite famous in his time.
Nothing lasts forever. Except , apparently, Trump.

No, Trump won’t last forever!!
He’s old.
Sadly, a week of Trump feels like a year.
I want to outlive him.
I want him someday to face accountability for the damage he is doing to our nation, our people, our ethos.
Now we are arm in arm with the worst tyrant in the world.
Trump is sickening.
