Do you have 10-15 minutes to read a very important article? It contains a lot of alarming details about the 19-year-old computer whiz on Elon Musk’s DOGE team.
Brian Krebs, a former Washington Post reporter, writes a blog about Internet security called Krebs on Security. In this awesome post, he describes the links of Edward Coristine to known cyber criminals.
Krebs is an expert on cybercrime.
He writes:
Wired reported this week that a 19-year-old working for Elon Musk‘s so-called Department of Government Efficiency(DOGE) was given access to sensitive US government systems even though his past association with cybercrime communities should have precluded him from gaining the necessary security clearances to do so. As today’s story explores, the DOGE teen is a former denizen of ‘The Com,’ an archipelago of Discord and Telegram chat channels that function as a kind of distributed cybercriminal social network for facilitating instant collaboration.
Since President Trump’s second inauguration, Musk’s DOGE team has gained access to a truly staggering amount of personal and sensitive data on American citizens, moving quickly to seize control over databases at the U.S. Treasury, the Office of Personnel Management, the Department of Education, and the Department of Health and Human Resources, among others.
Wired first reported on Feb. 2 that one of the technologists on Musk’s crew is a 19-year-old high school graduate named Edward Coristine, who reportedly goes by the nickname “Big Balls” online. One of the companies Coristine founded, Tesla.Sexy LLC, was set up in 2021, when he would have been around 16 years old.
“Tesla.Sexy LLC controls dozens of web domains, including at least two Russian-registered domains,” Wired reported. “One of those domains, which is still active, offers a service called Helfie, which is an AI bot for Discord servers targeting the Russian market. While the operation of a Russian website would not violate US sanctions preventing Americans doing business with Russian companies, it could potentially be a factor in a security clearance review.”
Mr. Coristine has not responded to requests for comment. In a follow-up story this week, Wired found that someone using a Telegram handle tied to Coristine solicited a DDoS-for-hire service in 2022, and that he worked for a short time at a company that specializes in protecting customers from DDoS attacks.
DDoS is “denial of service, meaning that one’s access to the internet has been cut off. So, I learned that there are companies that can be paid to implement a DDoS and companies that can be paid to protect against DDoS. Presumably, a clever cyber criminal could be on both sides, sort of like the early 20th century mobsters who demanded protection money from small-time merchants so that no one would break their windows.
Krebs’ writing about cybercriminals got personal when they retaliated:
The founder of Path is a young man named Marshal Webb. I wrote about Webb back in 2016, in a story about a DDoS defense company he co-founded called BackConnect Security LLC. On September 20, 2016, KrebsOnSecurity published data showing that the company had a history of hijacking Internet address space that belonged to others.
Less than 24 hours after that story ran, KrebsOnSecurity.com was hit with the biggest DDoS attack the Internet had ever seen at the time. That sustained attack kept this site offline for nearly 4 days.
The other founder of BackConnect Security LLC was Tucker Preston, a Georgia man who pleaded guilty in 2020 to paying a DDoS-for-hire service to launch attacks against others.
The aforementioned Path employee Eric Taylor pleaded guilty in 2017 to charges including an attack on our home in 2013. Taylor was among several men involved in making a false report to my local police department about a supposed hostage situation at our residence in Virginia. In response, a heavily-armed police force surrounded my home and put me in handcuffs at gunpoint before the police realized it was all a dangerous hoax known as “swatting.”
Woven throughout this story is the career trajectory of Edward Coristine, a core member of DOGE’s elite team. He possibly has a thumb drive with all of your and my personal data on it.
Krebs wonders whether and how Coristine got a top security clearance, given his history.
Given the speed with which Musk’s DOGE team was allowed access to such critical government databases, it strains credulity that Coristine could have been properly cleared beforehand. After all, he’d recently been dismissed from a job for allegedly leaking internal company information to outsiders.
According to the national security adjudication guidelines (PDF) released by the Director of National Intelligence (DNI), eligibility determinations take into account a person’s stability, trustworthiness, reliability, discretion, character, honesty, judgment, and ability to protect classified information.
The DNI policy further states that “eligibility for covered individuals shall be granted only when facts and circumstances indicate that eligibility is clearly consistent with the national security interests of the United States, and any doubt shall be resolved in favor of national security.”
Now that Tulsi Gabbard is DNI, maybe she’ll give young Edward the clearance he needs.
Please read it and let me know if you were as horrified as I.

The Musk Men are technologized malicious actors. They have the capacity to interfere with, to intercept, to preload or to cancel electronic voting machine results. They can hack into ATMs, into bank accounts and now into the Federal Government of the United States of America. What exactly were these fellows up to weeks and months before the USA election?

Agreed. This is particularly concerning when all those that provide oversight have been fired or curtailed in some way. These potential “malicious actors” have not been screened or vetted in any way.

Yes. Horrified again and again. Exactly the kind of thing I predicted when Musk was sniffing around Twitter. The question is, what do we very little, very old people do!?

There will be protests tomorrow on “Not My President’s Day.” See if there is one in your community and join it.

And Protests at Tesla Dealerships took place across the USA 🇺🇸 on SAT 2/15/25. Referred to as the #TeslaTakeover, the protests were organized by a small-but-mighty army of Bluesky users supported by Seattle-based activist group the Troublemakers and direct action The Disruption Project. Many of the events were posted to Action Network, which by Saturday rose to 50 planned protests nationwide, including small town hits and several in California and New York, Washington D.C., Ohio, and even Canada. “Sell your Teslas, dump your stock, join the picket lines. Hurting Tesla is stopping Musk. Stopping Musk will help save lives and our democracy,” the page reads. The #TeslaTakeover events, set for Feb. 15, generated rallies of varying sizes — from handfuls of protesters to large crowds of dozens of people chanting and parading signs — all with the same message: Musk is doing something categorically wrong!!!!!

I went to the one in NYC today. It was a good turnout, although that’s not surprising for this city. Hopefully just the start of something much bigger.

These young men come across as so immature, and so lacking in empathy, and understanding of almost anything outside of their narrow interest in technology.
They certainly are unsuited for any role in government.

It is an astonishing confirmation that we live in Orwellian times that a bunch of 19 – 25 year old IT guys are presented as “experts” in anything. “Elon vouched for them” has replaced reporting what is right in front of the media’s noses.
I appreciate the occasional and certainly important article like this one about some teenager doge staffer’s “background”. But the real narrative that is right in front of reporters’ faces is that NONE of these guys has ANY qualifications for the job they are doing! The problem is that these kinds of articles still don’t challenge the absolutely ridiculous lie that the doge folks who don’t have this kind of wrongdoing in their background are qualified as “experts” to “remake” government – because they may have some expertise in computer programming. The story that the media seems unwilling to report is that computer tech knowledge makes you an expert in computer tech only, NOT an expert in rooting out fraud and waste in federal programs or anything else.
Computer tech guys – regardless of whether they broke the law in the past – doing word searches for anything that sounds “woke” for “fraud” are not forensic accountants looking for misuse of funds. They have no ability to evaluate programs’ use of funds and whether people are doing what they were hired to do. Hospitals don’t put IT guys in charge of how to staff operating rooms. Car manufacturers don’t have their IT dept guys judging whether the assembly line is working properly and then ordering engineers to enact changes based on what the IT guys decide is “right”. Big hotels don’t have their IT guys deciding whether the front desk staff or the chef in their hotel restaurant is properly doing their job. Law firms don’t have their IT department evaluating whether their trial lawyers are doing their job. Drug manufacturers don’t have their IT department evaluating the work of their scientists and the safety of their plants, with authority to fire anyone the IT guys decide isn’t needed.
But because Trump and Musk say so, journalists accept “these guys are very smart and have expertise” as more than enough evidence that the doge folks who “did a word search” were hired on merit and are absolutely qualified to do the job of rooting out waste and fraud in any federal agency they want.
Who needs accountants anymore? Who needs mathematicians? Who needs scientists? Or doctors? The media has accepted the absurd, fact-free notion that these doge guys are “experts”. “Experts in what?” a real journalist would ask. Since real journalists have gone missing at the NYT and Washington Post, the answer of the stenographers who have replaced them is “experts in whatever Elon says they are experts at”.
There isn’t even any evidence that most of these doge hires have better computer tech skills than the majority of the 2024 college grads who majored in computer science. They were hired ONLY because they had connections to Elon Musk and were willing to do anything he asked in their single-minded search for “fraud”, regardless of whether their claims reflected reality or their methods were legal or ethical. They aren’t using generally accepted accounting methods. They are IT guys doing searches to find something they can CLAIM is “woke” or “fraud”, period.
If we had real journalists at our so-called liberal media institutions like the NYT – instead of stenographers – there would already be hundreds of articles about the extreme danger of putting young IT geeks who know nothing about anything except computers in charge of the federal government. Does America think young IT “experts” should be telling air traffic controllers and airline pilots and emergency room doctors how to do their jobs? Does America want IT people to take over securing their local nuclear power plants and America’s nuclear arsenal instead of engineers? Should the IT techs that Musk claims are experts in everything be in charge of drug manufacturing factories, because their computer programming and hacking skills makes them experts in how to keep the machinery running without contaminating the insulin or antibiotics their children will be taking? Do the people at the diner who the NYT loves to talk to believe their own job performance is best judged by 22 year olds from their company’s IT department – whether they are plumbers, store clerks, or work on a factory floor?
This is The Emperor’s New Clothes redux! The journalists are the townspeople fawning and praising the non-existent, invisible “expertise” of these unqualified doge hires, because the Emperor says the doge hires are so very smart and knowledgeable. Do we have to wait for a child reporter to actually say what is right in front of our eyes? That these hires have zero expertise to be doing what they are doing.
Stories like this one are unfortunately as useless as one of the townspeople praising the Emperor’s absolutely gorgeous new outfit who “bravely” points out that there is a tear in the elbow of the beautiful new outfit. Or “bravely” point out that there is a flaw in the pattern of the Emperor’s beautiful new clothes
Why is any reporter wasting their time looking for a “flaw” in some aspect of the new outfit, when the new outfit does not exist! The expertise of ANY of these doge hires to do what they are doing does not exist! Computer skills don’t give you any expertise except expertise in how to use/program/hack a computer! We KNOW that! Except apparently liberal media reporters no longer do.
If a Democrat had simply “vouched” for some computer geek’s expertise to tell federal agencies how to use their money, the way Musk did, the reporters would be condemning such actions as a danger to our country.
But when it comes to Trump and Musk, two men with a long history of NOT telling the truth when a lie suits them, reporters don’t need anything but Musk saying these doge guys are smart to write hundreds of stories that legitimize their “expertise” to do the job of “remaking government”. I take very little comfort from an article like this one that doesn’t challenge that absolutely false underlying narrative that these doge hires are supremely qualified to root out waste and fraud (but here’s one with dirty laundry in his background). By not challenging that underlying false narrative, these articles subtly reinforce it as true.
Why does that matter? It matters because leaving that underlying false narrative unchallenged leaves the door open for exactly what happens every time an article like this one comes out. The liberal media quotes Musk on how it’s unfair to punish this brilliant young doge worker for his sins of youth, because “even the liberal media” agrees that all the doge hire were hired on merit – because they are extremely talented to do the job of rooting out waste and fraud that America needs to have done. The Orwellian debate becomes “This very qualified guy is doing his job so well, so should he be punished for something bad he did in the past when he was young? Isn’t it more important for this country to have these most talented people doing this very important job of rooting out waste and fraud?”
It isn’t surprising that our public discourse is useless, because the media will only allow debate that uses the right wing framing where an absolutely false premise becomes a very convincing counterpoint to reality. Does America care enough about rooting out waste and fraud that they will forgive this young doge worker for his past sins so he can continue to do the very important job of keeping taxpayer dollars working FOR the taxpayers instead of being stolen by corrupt federal workers? It’s your choice, America. You must pick one.
We desperately need a child reporter who simply says truthfully what is right in front of all our faces. That NONE of these young doge computer tech hires are qualified to root out fraud and waste.
If that ever happens, the sycophancy of those supposedly “respectable” liberal media adult journalists who are too afraid to say what is true will be in clear contrast. One hopes they would be shamed, but I suspect not, as those journalists seem to believe that the real moral of the story of the Emperor’s New Clothes is that the child who pointed out that they Emperor had no clothing at all was “very biased” against the Emperor and should be silenced and punished by the so-called liberal media which has decided their prime journalistic obligation is to be “fair and balanced” and reassure the public that everyone was admiring the Emperor’s fabulous outfit, but one Emperor-hating child “disagrees.”

NYCPSP,
I agree with you! These IT guys lack any expertise in anything other than IT.
How dare they shut down America’s foreign aid program based on their say-so!
How dare they cancel almost a billion in education research contracts after a few hours or even a whole day of the DOGE checkup.
Meanwhile wild rumors are flying on Twitter about what the boys have found. Chelsea Clinton was paid $84 million by USAID! Except that Snopes investigated and found it was not true. The judge who stopped Trump from freezing all spending gets millions from the feds! I feel certain that’s false also.
A mountain of lies is feeding the cynicism of the MAGA base. As well as their hatred of the government and their support for Trump.
