Is it an accident? Trump made a good choice for Secretary of Labor. The NEA said good things about her. Let’s hope he doesn’t notice.
The NEA issued this press release:
National Education Association President Becky Pringle released the following statement reacting to the selection of Lori Chavez-DeRemer as Labor Secretary:
“Across America, most of us want the same things – strong public schools to help every student grow into their full brilliance and good jobs where workers earn living wages to provide for their families.
“During her time in Congress, Lori Chavez-DeRemer voted against gutting the Department of Education, against school vouchers, and against cuts to education funding. She cosponsored the Public Service Freedom to Negotiate Act, the PRO Act, and other pro-student, pro-public school, pro-worker legislation.
“This record stands in stark contrast to Donald Trump’s anti-worker, anti-union record, and his extreme Project 2025 agenda that would gut workplace protections, make it harder for workers to unionize, and diminish the voice of working people.
“During his first term, Trump appointed anti-worker, anti-union National Labor Relations Board members. Now he is threatening to take the unprecedented action of removing current pro-worker NLRB members in the middle of their term, replacing them with his corporate friends. And he is promising to appoint judges and justices who are hostile to workers and unions.
“Educators and working families across the nation will be watching Lori Chavez-DeRemer as she moves through the confirmation process and hope to hear a pledge from her to continue to stand up for workers and students as her record suggests, not blind loyalty to the Project 2025 agenda.”

I don’t mean to sound cynical, but it must have been a mistake.

Trump’s secretary of commerce is Howard Lutnick, who said in a speech that our economy was rockin when when there was no income tax and all we had was tariffs, so Lutnick wants to go back to the “Gilded Age”. Of course the mindset at that time was to pay labor as little as possible. There was no regard for a living wage whatsoever. I don’t think Lutnick and Chavez-DeRemer are going to see things eye to eye.

Peter Brennan was rewarded for sending Construction workers into the streets of lower Manhattan to beat the crap out of Peaceful anti war protestors after Kent state . Nixon had him locked in a closet at the Labor Dept. While Maurice Stans his commerce secretary was directed to facilitate the merger of 3 vehemently anti Union organizations into the “Business Round Table” to Control Construction Spending. The resulting blood bath resulted in a massive drop in Union Construction Market share nationwide.
Today the Trump court has the cases lined up . They will decimate Labor and all the Republican Dirt bags right up to Trump will say . “Who me , don’t know a thing ”

A tight labor market is an even better friend to the working class than unions are. Employers love massive immigration, as Bernie Sanders once said. The readers of this blog – most of whom have comfortable public employee pensions – can learn something from this linked essay.

Stop the nonsense there is no way in hell Trump will deny his oligarch buddies of cheap labor. The anti Union ABC contractors association and National Right To Work committee . Did not give their full throat-ed endorsement to Trump to lose 40-60% of their non union workforce.
The new Bracero Program will make even more compliant wage slaves out of migrants whose presence in the Country is dependent on the Boss Man with the whip.
So Sanders does / did not support open borders nor does he support the exploitation of immigrant workers.
And my Pension is from a Construction Union.

Just working from this press release and her page at Wikipedia, she sounds like one of the rare Republicans I would vote for.

Trump is definitely attempting to gain the support of workers. This dovetails nicely with coalition of workers who blame immigrants rather than billionaires and the billionaires who dupe them.

Billionaires favor massive immigration that forces existing citizens to compete with immigrants (legal and illegal) for jobs, which drives down wages. This was said by almost all prominent liberals up to around 2007, a fact which has been airbrushed from almost all news outlets.

You would not like to place a wager on that . Keep watching the shinny object while Trumps appointees and his COURT gut organized labor . Gut the Department of Labor from Fair Labor Standards to Civil Right , to OSHA and beyond .
It is tough to agree with the Orange Fascist but he was not wrong about everything. The Press does suck as much as I don’t want to attack the Fourth Estate while it is under assault .
And the Courts have always been political. From Dred Scott to Brown and from Roe to Dobbs… … Apologizes to our resident lawyers who thought otherwise.

Let’s hope NEA’s “good” Sec of Labor DOES notice that DJT Tariffs do nothing for USA workers. Instead he advertises his tariffs because “They give him power over American businesses and a massive opportunity for corruption. Companies reliant on foreign products received DJT ‘special exemptions.’
When last in office, he used this Tariff Exemption Scam to reward supporters and punish opponents. Past contributions to Republicans raised the likelihood of a company’s receiving a Tariff exemption. A history of past contributions to Democrats decreased a company’s chances of winning a lucrative exemption. People buying goods were the big losers.
Big investments in the USA did not happen.”

Maybe Trump is using the Secretary of Labor appt to sooth the masses … growing the working class (magicians sleight of hand) while furthering the eradication of the middle class. He does have control of all the levers of govt now. He always has felt free to dump his cabinet picks at the blink of an eye. When his labor Secretary has done just enough to help the working class exist a bit better than “barely” ( enough that their taxes help line the pockets of the rich).., maybe then… simultaneously 2025 is probably now planning how to then screw the working class effectively putting a stranglehold on them… they work … have just enough to get by ( just a bit more than they had under Dems) … while the billionaires get rich off their labor- putting into place a modern day version of serfdom. What a dystopian nightmare this scenario would be completely putting an end to the American ideal that if you work hard you can get ahead. I hope this is a far-fetched scenario🙏🏻

My concern re this labor nominee… Trump uses Secretary of labor nominee – if appointed to grow the working class and improve their lot just enough to appease them and give hope. When her usefulness is complete he dumps her at the drop of a hat ( appts are a revolving door in his administration). Meanwhile this is a sleight of hand because the middle class is simultaneously being eradicated while project 2025 is figuring out the details of this new modern day serfdom scenario so that the billionaire class gets enough via redistribution of working class taxes to maintain their wealth. Hopefully this dystopian scenario is dead wrong!
