You already know Donald Trump.
He is unfit to lead. Watch him.
Listen to those who know him best.
He tried to subvert an election
and remains a threat to democracy.
He helped overturn Roe, with
terrible consequences. Mr. Trump’s
corruption and lawlessness go
beyond elections: It’s his whole
ethos. He lies without limit. If he’s re-
elected, the G.O.P. won’t restrain
him. Mr. Trump will use the
government to go after opponents.
He will pursue a cruel policy of mass
deportations. He will wreak havoc
on the poor, the middle class and
employers. Another Trump term will
damage the climate, shatter alliances
and strengthen autocrats. Americans
should demand better. Vote.

Can you kill someone on Fifth Ave New York City and not been accountable? Is that how it is?

No, most people cannot kill someone on 5th Ave NYC and get away with it.
That’s what the serial liar, lifelong cheater, malignant narcissist, traitor (evidence of treason January 6, 2021), convicted rapist, fraud and felon has said and obviously thinks all the time. That they are untoucable.
And if he cheats and lies his way back into the White House, thanks to six fascists justices on the US Supreme Court, he will be immune as long as what he does is done as president.
When Donald Trump orders a nuclear strike on New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and other cities and states that didn’t vote for him, to get revenge, he may be protected by that immunity.
That’s only one person.
Who gave him that sense of power?
The Christian Nationalism fascist MAGA cult. And as a reward, if Donald Trump cheats and lies his way back into the White House, he will pardon them for the cult’s brutality as they round up immigrants and anyone the traitor thinks is an enemy of his country, the one he will rule as a dictator.

Thank you for your eloquent response, well understood!
I was also reflecting about the bipartisan effort that needs to be highlighted more frequently.
Undeniably, in the face of so many threatening episodes toward our democracy there is an uncommon and interesting scenario our that nation is witnessing, and that is the pool of leaders from both parties (Democrats and some Republicans) working together for the well-being of the nation. I wonder, if this scenario doesn’t wake us up as an outstanding alarm of unity, then frankly, there’s not way to imagine what else can wake us up. Let’s not forget that unity can and will bring success only if we as a nation work together to mimic the bee’s working style to produce the honey that benefit us.
Perhaps, this collective leadership effort of unity has been the biggest and stronger evidence ever witnessed by this nation and the outside world. Within this framework of unity there’s an underline message with a significant connotation that says ( I believe) : We are exclusively putting our COUNTRY and our PEOPLE first.! Does this sound like VP Harris? I would like to think so.
Lastly, VP Harris may be considered the author of the first and bigger, perhaps, unheard bipartisan effort ever brought by any US Candidates to the Presidency of the United States. It’s genius, hilarious and historical of course!-
Just an opinion freely expressed under the rights granted by our Constitution 🙂 God Bless America!
Thanks again!

Harris has been remarkable during this campaign in striving for bipartisan unity. Some have criticized her outreach to Republicans but I think it was a necessary step to healing the nation. I pray she wins.

Hello Dr. Ravitch, thank you for your response.
I would like to dedicate this message to all your audience, especially to those who can see the actual political climate (respectfully) through our collective vision.
If you woke up today like me… with “butterflies in my stomach,” it’s absolutely normal if you’re worried for the future of our nation! It’s just the nature of our time. In my case, my prayer goes to the Divine Order with the solid hope that at the end of this national journey, the GOOD news will prevail within the core of our nation by granting the emergence of a new leader, with a fresh start that will lead our nation forward and to the right path. Let’s hold dearly and tie the homework we have done and continue doing together. The GOOD shall prevail. – A concerned citizen.

Exactly which Republicans in Congress will she be able to work with. Did we forget that guy from Chicago who made such poetic speeches who actually tried that. How did that work out.
A blast from the past :
“A couple of years ago, a Republican committee staff director told me candidly (and proudly) what the method was to all this obstruction and disruption. Should Republicans succeed in obstructing the Senate from doing its job, it would further lower Congress’s generic favorability rating among the American people. By sabotaging the reputation of an institution of government, the party that is programmatically against government would come out the relative winner.
A deeply cynical tactic, to be sure, but a psychologically insightful one that plays on the weaknesses both of the voting public and the news media. There are tens of millions of low-information voters who hardly know which party controls which branch of government, let alone which party is pursuing a particular legislative tactic “(or policy I will add) . “These voters’ confusion over who did what allows them to form the conclusion that “they are all crooks,” and that “government is no good,” further leading them to think, “a plague on both your houses” and “the parties are like two kids in a school yard.” This ill-informed public cynicism, in its turn, further intensifies the long-term decline in public trust in government that has been taking place since the early 1960s – a distrust that has been stoked by Republican rhetoric at every turn (“Government is the problem,” declared Ronald Reagan in 1980).”
“The media are also complicit in this phenomenon. Ever since the bifurcation of electronic media into a more or less respectable “hard news” segment and a rabidly ideological talk radio and cable TV political propaganda arm, the “respectable” media have been terrified of any criticism for perceived bias. Hence, they hew to the practice of false evenhandedness. Paul Krugman has skewered this tactic as being the “centrist cop-out.” “I joked long ago,” he says, “that if one party declared that the earth was flat, the headlines would read ‘Views Differ on Shape of Planet.’”
Lofgren did not have a crystal ball . We have been here for decades.

Joel,
Maybe the Republicans will be as obstructionist as they were to Obama. We will see. If The Other Guy is elected, they would happily dismantle our government and our democracy.

Perhaps the Editorial Board should ask the Editor why we are here. (Okay I am wired. )……. At 5AM this morning I am listening to the BBC . Listening to a Commentator about why Trump is still competitive and could win. Apparently voters are still concerned by the high price of gas. “not being able to afford to fill the tank just to get to work ” Then on Morning Joe ( the enemy of my enemy can be my friend ) we had Andrew Ross Sorkin and Joe discussing how we are producing more oil than ever and that to bring the price of a barrel below $70 would be counter productive because it would kill drilling for fracked Oil . So there are limits to how low gasoline can go. Fair enough I agree ……. But here is the thing: Can somebody please inform the producers at the BBC and MSNBC that gas is low and has been low for most of the last 2 years. The number of hours worked to fill a tank with increased wages and the increased millage of vehicles combines to make gas far cheaper than in past economic recoveries. It means the average worker is spending less income on Gas than in the past….
But what does this have to do with the NY Times. While Niel Irwin buried on the Business Pages was making the same argument in October 2021 the front page of the NY Times was running an add for Trump by portraying $3.21 gas as forcing consumers to chose between eating cat food and filling the tank. Forgetting that gas was between $3.60 and $3.90 for four whole years 2011, 12, 13, and 14 and cat food sales weren’t up. I paid $2.75 last week…. Yup all these hurting consumers are spending more money in inflation adjusted spending because they found a cheaper Cat food or drive fewer miles (LOL)
It’s good to see the Editorial Board is at least taking a stand.
