Thanks to our friend Rick Charvet for sharing this very interesting clip from “Morning Joe,” in which Mika B. describes how Trump and Biden each spent Easter.
Trump apparently did not go to church and didn’t have much time for his family. Instead, he spent the day posting comments on his social media platform Truth Social. He posted 77 times. Seventy-seven times. He even posted notes from members of his cult likening him to Jesus.
In what ways is he like Jesus? Jesus was a teacher, a man beloved for his kindness, humility, compassion, and love for those in poverty, those in greatest need.
From Matthew:
Jesus told him, “If you want to be perfect, go and sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
But when the young man heard this, he went away sad, for he had many possessions.
Then Jesus said to his disciples, “I tell you the truth, it is very hard for a rich person to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. I’ll say it again—it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the Kingdom of God!
What did Biden do? He went to church with family.
Ofc, Trump lies continually about his wealth and about how he attained what he does have, as well as how he held onto it (because Putin and Trump’s buddies in the Russian mob bailed him out).
Is this the guy who was hawking his “favorite book” last week?
What’s the title of “that guy’s” favorite book? I’d like to know. Maybe I read about it but forgot.
I have lots of favorite books. If I had time to remember them all, or at least some of them, I could share them.
I even have a favorite among the books that I wrote and published as an indie author.
Wait, I forgot which one that was?
Damn!
Human memory is such as slippery slope since it’s nothing like a computer hard drive. Only a handful of people in the world have instant recall, like a computer hard drive (until the thing crashes and losses all of its files), for every moment of their lives.
Good thing I forgot, because the other titles I wrote might be jealous.
Doh, brother. I totally relate. Thank god my hubby caught up to my earlier-onset loss of short-term memory. To hear the two of us trying to discuss what movies we just read about that we’d like to watch together is hilarious. As are my bookclub discussions [core group ongoing for 30 yrs], when we try to relate connections between this month’s book and the titles of others we’ve read together…
I have a horrible time remember titles of books much less the authors. I am an avid although not sophisticated reader. However, I don’t think I will ever forget Trump hawking his favorite book. Anyone who believes his professed love of the Bible has an amazing ability to ignore all signs to the contrary.
We’re electing a president, not a pastor.
Do we want an unhinged vengeful narcissist as president?
Trump compares himself to Jesus and even sells Bibles. He said in his ad that the Bible is his favorite book, that he has many Bibles.
Frankly I don’t care what anyone’s religion is. I do hate it when someone tries to convert me or expects me to follow their religion.
Religion is very personal. It should stay that way.
“We’re electing a president, not a pastor,” said no one in the Republican Party for forty years. So much for family values, now that the Republican nominee-to-be has no values. I think Trump values were best summed up by Melania in big letters sprawled across her jacket, “I don’t care.” We’re electing a president, not a gremlin.
Good one, leftcoastteacher41.
Try, “We’re electing a president, not a piece of shit.”
There you go – projecting again! Ravitch’s ravishing demagoguery is showing as is her usual modus operandi of basing her response upon a lie. Biden says Trump has violated the “fundamental” requirement of a president – that “he cares.” Emotion and stupid. The primary requirement of a president is that he faithfully defend the Constitution, meaning our liberties and national security as Commander in Chief. Lots of authoritarians “cared” for the people while leading them down the path of totalitarianism. Her, and your, ignorance is showing.
Yes, James Waters, I agree with you: “the primary requirement of the president is that he faithfully defend the Constitution, meaning our liberties and national security as Commander in Chief.”
Can you say that about Trump?
Can you say that about a man who summoned a mob to DC on the day the electoral votes were being ceremonially counted, urged them to march on the Capitol, told them to “fight like hell or they wouldn’t have a country anymore.”
Trump attempted to overturn the election and subvert the Constitution.
Trump has spent almost four years claiming that he won in 2020, although more that 60 courts ruled against his claim, including the Supreme Court (twice).
This is a man who said that the Cobstitutuon allows the President to do “whatever he wants.” It doesn’t.
By the criterion you set out, which I endorse, Trump is unfit to be president.
Oh come on, Jim. You’ve got to admit that it’s a bad look for a public figure who just came out selling Bibles 6 days ago to skip church on Easter Sunday.
Maybe he can spin it as DIY religion [privatization, “small govt,” personal choice etc], but doubt that has traction with evangelist voters he’s appealing to with the Bible-selling. [Not that he even needs to do that– they already consider him a sinner sent by God to do the right thing….]
I’m a very secular agnostic. I’m as Catholic as Joe Biden is – not in the least.
With all due respect, we cannot know the workings of a person’s conscience. This is why Amendment 1 protects freedom thereof and pairs it with religion and speech. Jesus, meanwhile, suggested we should not render final judgement upon one another, lest we receive the same treatment. Good advice for the agnostic, atheist, or religionist.
We are obliged to make judgement of character to live in the world, but you are wrong to claim knowledge of another’s conscience.
Joe Staley– Do not presume. Are you Biden’s confessor? About all you’ve got to base that on is his pro-choice stance as a govtl leader, which is appropriate to the leader of a spiritually pluralistic nation, as well as to Founders’ position on separation of church and state.
How Joe Biden’s Catholic Faith Shapes His Politics And Values : NPR
Joe Biden’s Catholic faith inspires him to support abortion all the way up to the minute of birth. He’s as genuinely Catholic as I am.
Bullshit, Mr. Staley. You are simply pulling stuff out of your tushy. Biden has REPEATEDLY said that he wants to make Roe v. Wade, again, the law of the land. Under the Roe v. Wade, states were prohibited from banning abortions before approximately 23 weeks – a point at which a fetus is considered capable of surviving outside a woman’s womb. Here’s a breakdown of the ruling:
First Trimester: During the first trimester of pregnancy, the state could not intervene in a person’s decision to have an abortion under normal circumstances. Second Trimester: During the second trimester, the state could regulate abortion procedures to protect the health of pregnant individuals, but it could not prohibit abortions altogether.
After the second trimester, a state could outlaw abortion except where necessary to save the life of the mother.
Many Catholics sincerely oppose abortion but don’t think they should be able to impose their views on others who don’t agree.
