Earlier this week, Donald Trump swept through the Republican Super Tuesday presidential primaries (with the exception of Vermont). His one major opponent has dropped out, putting the most dangerous president in American history one step closer to returning to the White House.
The primary is over. This is it. The election will once again be between Joe Biden and Donald Trump. And, frighteningly, at this point most polls have Trump in the lead.
The question we now face is a simple one. How do we defeat Trump and his right-wing extremist allies in the House and Senate? How do we elect more Progressives to Congress?
And, frankly, the answer is complicated by the reality that the Democratic establishment is ill-prepared to do that. They have relatively little support within the working class. Their support among the Latino community is declining. And they are even seeing a drop In support from the Black community – historically the Democrats strongest base of support. Their support among young people is declining. The Democrats are also weak in terms of generating grass-roots activism or excitement.
We have to do things differently.
While most Democrats will focus their attention on Trump’s indictments, his insults and outrages, our job is to be laser-focused in reminding people of the fraud and pathological liar for working people we all know Trump to be.
For instance:
This is a president, Donald Trump, who said he was going to provide health care to everyone, yet tried to throw 32 million people off of health care and has pledged to continue to try and accomplish that goal.
This is a president who said he was going to stand up for working families and who promised to pass tax reform legislation designed to help the middle class, yet 83 percent of his tax benefits go to the top 1 percent.
This is a president who promised to take on the pharmaceutical companies. He said they were “getting away with murder.” Yet, drug prices continue to soar and he appointed a drug company executive as the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
This is a president who promised to take on the greed of Wall Street, but then proceeded to appoint more Wall Street titans to high positions than any president in history.
This is a president who appointed vehemently anti-labor members to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB).
This is a president who believes climate change is a “hoax”, and appointed agency leaders and judges who consistently undermined our ability to move toward sustainable energy and protect the environment.
This is a president who said he would do “everything in my power to protect our LGBT citizens,” yet went out of his way to attempt to deny them from getting the health care they need and allow discrimination against them in the workplace.
This is a president who brags about his role in overturning Roe v. Wade and denying reproductive rights to millions of women across the country.
This is a president who said that if he won that America would be respected again around the world, yet as a result of his anti-democratic and incompetent policies has succeeded in significantly lowering the respect that people all over the planet have for the United States, all while embracing right-wing authoritarian rulers around the world.
This is a president who not only rejected his own defeat and attempted to incite an insurrection to stop Congress from certifying the election, but worked overtime to make it harder for people to vote and easier for billionaires to buy the outcomes of elections. I happen to believe that if Trump is elected once again this November, the 250 year old experiment of modern democracy in this country may very well come to end.
The truth is, Donald Trump sold out the working families of this country once, and if he wins again all of the anti-worker, anti-democratic policies he pursued during his first term will only be magnified. He is a menace to working people whose rejection of climate science threatens the future of this planet. We have to appreciate how unbelievably severe the current moment is.
This is not the message most Democrats trying to defeat Trump will communicate, but it one we must relentlessly remind the working people of this country about ahead of November’s elections.
So there it is. A lot of important work ahead of us.

Bernie left out Trump’s specific appointment of education privatizer Betsy DeVos, a fox in the henhouse.

“I will not give a penny to any school that has a vaccine mandate.” –Donald Trump, on the campaign trail in 2024, repeatedly
This moron, this buffoon, knows almost nothing about almost everything. This is just another case in point. He doesn’t have a clue that every state and almost every school has vaccine mandates. This is why we don’t have widespread DPT, polio, measles, and chickenpox.

There doesn’t seem to be anything Bernie says that Biden or most of the Democrats don’t agree with it! They say most of these things.
But to understand how difficult this message this message is to get out: The very few remaining DINOs (who are really Republicans) like Manchin and Sinema are NO LABELS and there are disaffected Democrats even on this blog who actually believe No Labels is good thing, and the amorphous evil known at “the Democrats” or “the DNC” is the bad thing.
How do the Dems address that? People have more trust in the very Dems that have blocked good policies that the majority of Dems support from happening! More trust in the Republicans who do nothing at all except for the rich (and the Christian right).

^^^I love Bernie, but there is something about that message that grates on me. It’s exactly what I hear young people say. The casual assumption that the “Democrat establishment” is pro-corporate, and anti-progressive.
The “Democratic establishment” is now quite progressive! Maybe not as progressive as Bernie, but as progressive as I have ever seen in my lifetime, way more progressive than Jimmy Carter.
And yet the message is that the “mainstream” Dems are corporate lackeys. How do we change that? Because it’s sad to me that the fact that it is TRUE seems to have very little power! And I wish there was a greater understanding from Bernie that all these things are meaningless if the voters already have the messages that the Democrats will do nothing but join with their corporate overlords to prevent change. Even though that simply isn’t true.
Give Democrats a big majority and see what they give you before deciding in advance they will sell you out because “Manchin.”

The “Democratic establishment” is now quite progressive!
Seriously? So where is Medicare for all? universal parental leave? federal legalization of marijuana and of sex work? Where is ending federally mandated standardized testing? Where is highly progressive tax legislation? One could go on and on.
The DNC also sucks at the oligarchical teat.

Where was that when Jimmy Carter was blocking healthcare and had big Democratic majorities?
Obama was a disappointment for a variety of reasons, but Joe Biden isn’t Obama, and the Democrats of 2024 are not Joe Manchin.
You really think the American public is crying out for federal legalization of marijuana and of sex work?
And I can tell you that I have never heard parents expressing concern with “federally mandated standardized testing?” They don’t like it, but they don’t like a lot of things about education, including burned out teachers who resist change or have checked out but can’t be fired.
Neither of those are a top priority because they ALSO have great respect for the many amazing teachers and they also understand that the “federally mandated standardized testing” doesn’t affect their kids learning and enjoying school (thanks for those good teachers).
Schools are locally run. Having had kids in school during the worst of the testing mandates, I can tell you that some schools simply don’t prioritize that and the test prep is minimal. I know it affects teachers and I support you on that, but the reason Bernie Sanders didn’t even mention K-12 education and supported “good public charter schools” in the 2016 campaign, and campaigned for a pro-charter progressive against a pro-public school moderate in the Virginia’s Governors’ race is not because Bernie is a corporate lackey doing what the oligarchs want. It is simply not a priority. And there is simply NOT complete agreement among progressives about their stance on those issues. I wish there were, but it’s complex.

Bob, I am sure that’s probably right. I just find that what people like doesn’t always translate into something they prioritize if they are worried about “the bad economy” or “inflation” or “Biden’s senility” or “the border crisis” or “public schools teaching our elementary school kids to be trans and gay”.
People support their public schools by large margins, and still vote for anti-public school pro-voucher, pro-privatization candidates who now seem to have a very firm grip on Republican statehouses. I wish I knew how to change that.
But the one thing I never do is blame some amorphous “Teachers’ Union” or “public school teachers”. It is not teachers’ fault that their message isn’t getting through. It is impossible to get a message through when the so-called liberal media does not distinguish between truth and lies.

The evidence found through the next link shows that Traitor Trump lies a lot to get what he wants. Every promise he makes is a lie — to be broken once he wins — unless he’s talking about himself or he made a deal with someone that increased his power or wealth.
Not what he will do for others, but what it will do for Traitor Trump.
https://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/promises/trumpometer/?ruling=true
Still, pay attention when he says he’ll be a dictator the first day he’s back in the White House. That isn’t a lie.
All we have to do is pay attention to what’s happening to the Republican Party as Traitor Trump replaces the GOP’s leadership with his MAGARINO loyalists, showing us what he plans do to the federal government, turning it into another branch of his family’s criminal enterprise like he has already done to the Republican Party.
And, I read this morning, that the traitor’s GOP loyalists are already working in battleground states purging voters (cheating) to improve his odds of winning the election through the Electoral College. Even dangerously dumber than dumb Traitor Trump knows he cannot win the popular vote. It’s too easy to get caught stuffing ballot boxes.
But Trump cheats at everything he does. This is one of the ways he’s already cheating to win in 2024.
Warning: The Great GOP Voter Purge of 2024 Is Underway

An independent journalist, Jonathan Katz, did research on a claim in Alabama Senator Katie Britt’s response to President Biden’s State of the Union speech.
Britt told a story about a woman she met at the border who had been sex-trafficked by the cartels. She said it happened in the U.S. and she blamed Biden.
Katz identified the date of Britt’s visit to the border and named the woman who met with Britt and other GOP senators.
She was sex-trafficked in MEXICO between 2004-2008.
Biden was neither President nor Vice-President.
Britt is a liar.
Another tweet says: “I have a kitchen. I don’t need rights.”
Britt should quit.

Diane,
I saw that about Britt’s dishonest anecdote. More depressing, I saw the NYT article about it, which basically said sure Britt told a “highly misleading” story, now let’s get back to talking about how Americans are fed up with Biden’s border policies.
What the NYT reporters never mention in their attempts to “both sides” the issue, the LIE that Britt told actually SUPPORTS Biden’s border policies and explains why just cutting off people who may need asylum is appalling!
There are women being raped in Mexico who are desperate to come the the US. And Britt and the Republicans want to round up women and children who escaped that and send them back to Mexico to be raped more.
The hypocrisy of the Republicans is appalling. And no, neither Biden nor Dems want “open borders” (and never have) but they also don’t want to close off all access. The immigration bill would have addressed this but Britt and the Republicans never have cared.

Facts have to be redressed in terms of emotions . Facts have to be expressed in feelings .

My question is, will the democrats respect the will of the people if Trump is re-elected, or is the plan to release anti-fa/brown shirts on our country as suggested in The Secret History of the Shadow Campaign That Saved the 2020 election?
I think I know the answer.

Until you condemn Trump for not respecting the will of the people in 2020 and unleashing violence right in front of our eyes, your question just seems like a joke.
In 2016, the Democrats were denied the kinds of hand recounts that Trump had. But they still didn’t foment violence to prevent Trump from taking over. I guess you Republicans only believe in violent protest, not peaceful protest?
Are you talking about the “secret meeting” from January 2017, where right wing Republicans were CAUGHT trying to illegally bribe anti-Trump protesters to act out? That was really terrible, and it’s a shame that you don’t condemn it. Luckily, the anti-Trump protesters didn’t condone violence even when Republicans were willing to pay them to commit it.
Do you not realize that you have no credibility now that we know Katie Britt was blatantly lying to make people hate the United States and tell the biggest television audience that the US allowed women to be sex trafficked when that happened in Mexico? Please try to love your country, not support treasonous Republicans like the ones who keep defending Putin and don’t believe in democracy.

Jackie,
Trump did not accept the will of the people in 2020. Why should we expect that he will in 2024? If he should win, can we trust him to permit another election in 2028?
He filed more than 60 court cases claiming election fraud, and he lost all but one, which was not enough to change the results. His claims were rejected twice by the Supreme Court and by dozens of other courts, including judges he appointed. William Barr, his Attorney General, said he lost. His White House Counsel told him he didn’t win. No sane, responsible person thought he won, only crazies like Giuliani and Sidney Powell.

Are you seriously contending that Democrats mounted a challenge to the 2016 election that was in any way comparable to that mounted by Trump? Where was the Democratic Party fake electors scheme? Where was Hilary calling up state election supervisors and asking them “to find” votes? Where was Hilary calling on a mob to storm the Capitol? Where was the mob storming the Capitol? Where was the defamation of voting place officials and of voting machine companies severe enough to lead to successful lawsuits? Where was the campaign to get Senators and Congresspeople to vote against accepting the certification of the vote?
