The Los Angeles Times reports:
Los Angeles students are a critical step closer to a return to campus beginning in mid-April under a tentative agreement reached Tuesday between the teachers union and the L.A. Unified School District, signaling a new chapter in an unprecedented year of coronavirus-forced school closures.
The agreement, which must be ratified by members, establishes safety parameters for a return to campus and lays out a markedly different schedule that still relies heavily on online learning. The school day would unfold under a so-called hybrid format — meaning that students would conduct their studies on campus during part of the week and continue with their schooling online at other times.
Families would retain the option of keeping students in distance learning full time.
The House just passed extremely important legislation easing the ability of workers to organize. It will doubtless be blocked by Repugnicans in the Senate because it needs 60 votes to pass.
In other, related news, check out the difference between the effects of Trump’s Tax cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 and Biden’s American Rescue Plan, which will be voted on in the House tomorrow. This article clearly shows the difference between Republicans and Democrats in one chart. Trump’s legislation was a massive wealth transfer to the very rich. Biden’s is a big assist to the poor and middle class.

And, for all you smart readers of Diane’s blog, here’s a brain teaser:
Parasitic wasp larvae and Repugnicans. Can you spot the difference?
It would not need 60 votes if Democrats in the Senate simply got rid of the filibuster, which they could do if they had the will to do so , which they obviously lack.
If they don’t get rid of it, one thing is certain. We are going to hear “we don’t have the 60 votes” from Democratic Senators on every remotely progressive legislation that is passed by the House .
It started to look suspiciously like an excuse not to pass progressive legislation long ago when it was used many times during the Obama years.
Democratic Senators rarely even call Republicans bluff and force them to actually filibuster.
The Dems throw in the towel before there has even been a microsecond of rhetoric from Republicans on the Senate floor.
Well said. We should contact our representatives and urge them to end the filibuster. It is the only way to allow this administration to move forward.
“It is the only way to allow this administration to move forward.”
There’s the rub.
To end, perchance to vote—ay, there’s the rub:
For in that end of filibuster what votes may come,
When we have shuffled off this lame [60 vote] excuse
Must give us pause—there’s the respect
That makes calamity of so long Senate tenure
Among other things, Democrats could raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour if they did away with the filibuster.
But that would probably not be convenient for some Democrats.
Easier just to claim “we don’t have 60 votes” than to explain why they voted against a minimum wage increase (or, possibly, vetoed a bill that did so)
Alas, yes.
The game got old a long time ago.
But Senators are nonetheless still playing it, bbelieving (pathetically) that no one is wise to their “brilliant” ruse.
The US Senate is unequivocally UNdemocratic and in most cases simply acts to obstruct the will of the American public and obstruct progress (proven beyond any reasonable doubt by the recent ruling of the Senate Parliamentarian) And it ain’t just the Republicans in the Senate who are obstructionist. There are currently two Democrats who are adamantly refusing to eliminate the filibuster.
Promises, promises..promises and You believe them? Let us see the numbers when reality hits in 2 years. I remember the Obama lies and some from shovel-ready as well. Sticks and stones, Bob
