CNN reports that the Supreme Court will not hear the demand by the Texas Attorney General and 16 other Republican state attorneys general seeking to overturn the voting results in key battleground states.
On Monday, the Electoral College will meet and confirm that Joe Biden will be our new President, #46.
Yes !
We are on the SAME page. I was just posting this article on another blog of yours. HOO-RAH!! Trump is officially finished. You posted it 0 minutes ago.
Poor Trump. He went to all that trouble to rush through Amy Barrett and it still wasn’t enough. [I was going to check to see how each judge voted.]
Looks like Trump is officially finished. NO MORE OPTIONS!! Why does a lawsuit from Texas really think it can discard votes fro Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin?

BREAKING NEWS
The Supreme Court rejected a Texas suit to nullify the vote in 4 states, effectively ending President Trump’s hope of reversing the election in court.
Friday, December 11, 2020 6:40 PM EST
Texas’ lawsuit, filed directly in the Supreme Court, challenged election procedures in four battleground states: Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. It asked the court to bar those states from casting their electoral votes for President-elect Joe Biden and to shift the selection of electors to the states’ legislatures. That would have required the justices to discard millions of votes.
News travels fast. 126 House Republicans? Good grief.

The Hill:
Supreme Court rejects Texas’ push to overturn Biden victory
The Supreme Court on Friday rejected a widely panned bid by Texas to overturn President-elect Joe Biden’s election win, delivering a devastating blow to President Trump’s long-shot legal campaign.
The Texas lawsuit had been backed by Trump, as well as 18 GOP state attorneys general and 126 House Republicans.
Trump apparently, & not surprisingly, doesn’t understand that, even more so than Congress members, a judge’s decision must take into consideration the fact that the decision willm that sooner or later a similar issue will arise, with the shoe on the other foot. He doesn’t comprehend the concept of precedent (or President, for that matter).
Alito and Thomas said they would have heard the case but said nothing about its merit.
ohwhatasurprise…
From what I have been reading, the U.S. Supreme Court has been consistent in letting state courts decide these lawsuits that are challenging the election to keep Trump president even when he lost.
Are the Texas officials who filed this suit actually that oblivious to history’s judgment? This attempt to undermine one of the most fundamental tenets of US principle will be a black mark on Texas for a long time, the only mitigating factor being the existence of discerning, enlightened Texas natives like you, Diane!
The Texas AG hinted at secession. I say, let them go and take Trump with them.
Now wouldn’t that be interesting. The Kingdom of Trumplandia. Or Ivankaland. The world’s first Idiocracy.
A significant number of their residents may have something to say about that.
Don’t let the door hit ‘em in the a- – on the way ou…
Wait, does this mean we’d have to move that part of the wall to Oklahoma & New Mexico? In case some Texans start thinking maybe they were a bit hasty? After all that money Mexico spent on it? Darn, that would really complicate things! We gotta give this some thought…
126 House republicans backed this nonsense. Thanks to websites that posted their names, I know that my Representative signed on. He is Trump loyalist and will hear from me, for certain. Unpatriotic and a coward.
As Rep. Bill Pascrell points out, these 126 have violated the 14th Amendment and should never be allowed to take their office ever again. They are, as Abraham Lincoln called them, so-called confederates. They are traitors. Here’s the list:
https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-news/109-republicans-election-amicus-brief-1102531/
Exactly. This is treason.
I wonder if the lawyers who brought this frivolous suit and the other 50 that were tossed out by state courts could be disbarred for their irresponsibility and contempt for the law and the Constitution.
They should be.
I just quoted Texas v. White to the Texas GOP on its Facebook page. But commenters there are calling for a “Texit.”
On those GOP congresspeople and other operatives calling for secession or the overturning of the election:
No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any state, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any state legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any state, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof.
Putin certainly got his money’s worth when he made his heavy investment in Donald Trump, Moscow’s Asset Governing America (MAGA). Giving America the DTs has brought us to the brink of civil war.
A little background on Trump loyalists in the House (the list when it was 105)-
Of the conservative religious GOP non-Catholics in the House (Baptists, Nazarene, and Pentecostal), about one-half signed the
referenced document. There are 4 Mormon Reps. who are GOP, only 1 signed. A bit less than half of the Catholic GOP reps. signed.
I think this last rear-end pull is grounds for DISBARRING a whole bunch of rePUG-nican politician/lawyers. These numb nuts are treasonous liars just like trump.
I wonder if Putin got to them, too?
Here’s a list of representatives that joined this vile attempt to overturn the election results. Please work to get them out of office in your state in the next election cycle. https://news.yahoo.com/here-are-the-republican-members-of-congress-who-signed-on-to-the-suit-to-throw-out-the-votes-in-four-states-195834720.html
traitors to their country
I want to believe this is over, but how many times have we already thought it was over! I feel as if it is Groundhog’s Day. Until Trump concedes, it isn’t over. Actually, until Biden takes the oath of office, it isn’t over. These aren’t normal times and we now should know that absolutely nothing is beyond the Republicans.
It isn’t just that the Trump campaign wanted this. Attorney Generals in 17 states wanted this, with nearly all the Republicans in the House and Senate signing on to this coup attempt to end democracy so their party could stay in power. Scary times.
What’s next? Declaring martial law because of an emergency?
^^correction: the Republicans in the House signed on, not the Senate
Chicago Tribune:
Trump had called the lawsuit filed by Texas against Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin “the big one” that would end with the Supreme Court undoing Biden’s substantial Electoral College majority and allowing Trump to serve another four years in the White House.
His own appointees did not side with his absurd effort to throw out the results.
No American state is throwing out votes, for a presidential or any election. 😁
Surely no one, even trump, believed that this would work. The reason for all these suits is that the Biden victory must be discredited in the eyes of a significant base for the party to obstruct for the next 4 years.
Lawyers are not fools. Any ruling to the contrary might have triggered being dis-barred. Judges who are capricious run the risk of being thrown out of the bar. Lawyers are given a pretty wide berth for bringing suits, but judges are held to account for ridiculous decisions. All the trump lawyers knew this.
Who comes out looking good with this? All those Trump-appointed judges. Was this a deliberate ploy to get opponents of Trump to feel good about the extremists he put on the court? Stay tuned. We might have a few more Citizens United rulings ahead..
This whole thing gets stupider all the time.

Sidney Powell’s secret ‘military intelligence expert,’ key to fraud claims in election lawsuits, never worked in military intelligence
Dec. 11, 2020 at 5:29 p.m. CST
The witness is code-named “Spyder.” Or sometimes “Spider.” His identity is so closely guarded that lawyer Sidney Powell has sought to keep it even from opposing counsel. And his account of vulnerability to international sabotage is a key part of Powell’s failing multistate effort to invalidate President-elect Joe Biden’s victory.
Powell describes Spyder in court filings as a former “Military Intelligence expert,” and his testimony is offered to support one of her central claims. In a declaration filed in four states, Spyder alleges that publicly available data about server traffic shows that voting systems in the United States were “certainly compromised by rogue actors, such as Iran and China.”
Spyder, it turns out, is Joshua Merritt, a 43-year-old information technology consultant in the Dallas area. Merritt confirmed his role as Powell’s secret witness in phone interviews this week with The Washington Post.
Records show that Merritt is an Army veteran and that he enrolled in a training program at the 305th Military Intelligence Battalion, the unit he cites in his declaration. But he never completed the entry-level training course, according to Meredith Mingledorff, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Army Intelligence Center of Excellence, which includes the battalion.
Merritt acknowledged that the declaration’s description of his work as an “electronic intelligence analyst under 305th Military Intelligence” is misleading. He said it should have made clear that his time in the 305th was as a student, not as a working intelligence expert…

The right wing Voter Integrity Fund (the endeavor of Trump’s guy, Matt Braynard, who testified yesterday) used the GiveSendGo site to raise money. The site bills itself as the “#1 Free Christian Crowdfunding” site. (Rittenhouse used the site to raise money after GoFundMe no longer hosted the effort to get money for his defense.)
Daily Beast reports that originally GiveSendGo was used to raise money for activities like missionary trips. In addition to info. about Braynard and GiveSendGo, the Daily Beast article describes the efforts of the editor of Gateway Pundit. His name figures prominently in the story about the conflict in St. Louis this summer over the statue of King Louis IX. The Jewish Telegraphic Agency, 6-29-2020, posted, “Catholic archdiocese defends statue of King Louis, the namesake of St. Louis, who persecuted Jews”.
USA Today wrote the following about the conflict, “Several dozen mostly white Catholics and members of white supremacist groups converged at the statue…in attendance…members of Proud Boys…Invaders Motorcycle Club-a group that uses Nazi symbols according to the Anti-Defamation League”.
Photos of the conflict show and identify a couple of clergy who spoke at the rally.
Am I reading this wrong, or did the head of the Republican Party in Texas just traitorously call for states to secede from the Union in response to the ruling? Here’s what he just said in a press release:
“Perhaps law-abiding states should bond together and form a Union of states that will abide by the Constitution.”
He is referring, there, to the states that joined in the lawsuit rejected by the Supreme Court. He certainly has a peculiar notion of “law-abiding.”
The Constitution doesn’t mention secession. However, “[I]n Texas v. White (1869), the Supreme Court ruled unilateral secession unconstitutional, while commenting that revolution or consent of the states could lead to a successful secession” (Wikipedia, “Secession in the United States.” The Declaration of Independence, however, does say this: [W]henver any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or abolish it.” However, the Declaration is not law. It is not legally binding. As I understand it, the law is embodied in the Texas v. White decision.
From the Texas v. White Supreme Court decision of 1868:
The Union of the States never was a purely artificial and arbitrary relation. It began among the Colonies, and grew out of common origin, mutual sympathies, kindred principles, similar interests, and geographical relations. It was confirmed and strengthened by the necessities of war, and received definite form and character and sanction from the Articles of Confederation. By these, the Union was solemnly declared to “be perpetual”. And when these Articles were found to be inadequate to the exigencies of the country, the Constitution was ordained “to form a more perfect Union”. It is difficult to convey the idea of indissoluble unity more clearly than by these words. What can be indissoluble if a perpetual Union, made more perfect, is not?
Oops. cx: 1869

Certainly good news.
It reminds me of the end of the movie “Jaws”. The bloated, blown up shark sinking to the bottom of the ocean. Ahhh….relief!
But, of course, at the end of “Jaws” the boat was sunk, the captain chomped to pieces, the summer ruined and, off over the horizon but headed towards us were Jaws II, Jaws III and Jaws IV (“The Revenge”.)
In one sequel the big fish tries to eat a helicopter.
So, how low can America go? Have we bottomed out? Or will we have to sit through “Trump II” ? Or, something even worse?
One time I had a tooth that was bothering me and my dentist, who I love, gave me a piece of sage advice: “It will either get better or it’ll get worse.”
Yup.
That guy never heard of things staying the same.
Good point, Roy. I was in a bit of pain at that point. Luckily, it didn’t stay the same.
I hope that Trump finds himself in prison, along with his crooked three adult children and Jared. The fact that Trump is considering granting pre-emptive pardons for federal crimes means he knows that he and his children are foul crooks.
Is the Supreme Court going to do what is right…or will they bow to Trump and not let Vance see his tax returns? Why is Trump working so hard to keep his tax returns hidden. [Oh my, they must still be under audit. That is his only reply to why he hasn’t showed them yet. Horse hockeys!…slang Foolish, deceitful, bombastic, or arrogant talk.]

Manhattan D.A. Intensifies Investigation of Trump
Prosecutors have recently interviewed employees of President Trump’s lender and insurance brokerage, in the latest indication that he still faces the potential threat of criminal charges once he leaves office.
It remains unclear whether the office of the Manhattan district attorney, Cyrus R. Vance Jr., will ultimately bring charges. The prosecutors have been fighting in court for more than a year to obtain Mr. Trump’s personal and corporate tax returns, which they have called central to their investigation. The issue now rests with the Supreme Court.
But lately, Mr. Vance’s office has stepped up its efforts, issuing new subpoenas and questioning witnesses, including some before a grand jury, according to the people with knowledge of the matter, who requested anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the investigation.
When Mr. Trump returns to private life in January, he will lose the protection from criminal prosecution that his office has afforded him. While The New York Times has reported that he discussed granting pre-emptive pardons to his eldest children before leaving office — and has claimed that he has the power to pardon himself — that authority applies only to federal crimes, and not to state or local investigations like the one being conducted by Mr. Vance’s office…
The investigation by Mr. Vance, a Democrat, has focused on Mr. Trump’s conduct as a private business owner and whether he or employees at his family business, the Trump Organization, committed financial crimes. It is the only known criminal inquiry into the president…
Because grand jury rules require secrecy, prosecutors have disclosed little about the focus of the inquiry and nothing about what investigative steps they have taken. But earlier this year, they suggested in court papers that they were examining possible insurance, tax and bank-related fraud in the president’s corporate dealings…
Glimpses into the investigation have come in court records during the bitter and protracted legal battle over a subpoena for eight years of Mr. Trump’s personal and corporate tax returns and other financial records.
A month after Mr. Vance’s office demanded the documents from the president’s accounting firm, Mazars USA, in August 2019, Mr. Trump sued to block compliance with the subpoena. The case has twisted its way through the federal courts, with the president losing at every turn, and is now in front of the Supreme Court for the second time…
On Feb 4th, 2017, Der SPIEGEL, a German magazine similar to TIME, featured a cover depicting Donald Trump beheading Lady Liberty.
As for Der Spiegel, the magazine seems to be looking forward to the Biden era, as this post-election print edition cover—which reprises one of its iconic images evisceraitng Trump’s “America First” mantra—shows.
Haha.
So the system is not completely rotten.
So the gist of this mess is that the goose-stepping GOP AGs and House members (most) claim the entire election should be invalidated because state by state, guidelines TO MAKE VOTING MORE ACCESSIBLE AND EASIER were implemented.
They claim that any change to a voting procedure – in a freaking pandemic they don’t believe exists – is grounds to invalidate millions and millions of votes. They don’t want to invalidate just ballots that came in after extended deadlines or changes in mail-in procedures, they want the entire election thrown out.
Wait, WHAT? They want to invalidate an election in a democracy with civil servant and bipartisan election management and monitoring because VOTING WAS MADE TOO EASY?
Slap these folks names on billboards across the country because these fools ‘followers only watch one tv “news” show” and twitter feed. And, no doubt went to schools who thought the left was trying brainwash them so critical thinking and crap detecting were banned like their history books.

Perhaps we should let them secede. With the exception of Austin, I can live without TX and FL. (To be wholly transparent, I have long believed this nation is ungovernable as currently constituted and believe it should be split into 5-7 constituent parts.)
2 would also do for now.
Secession could lead to state/nations that border the U.S. reviving slavery based on race, denying women’s rights, engaging in child labor, tying voting rights to property ownership, eliminating public education and other common goods, dispensing with rule of law, fostering wholesale corruption of courts, policing, national defense etc.
There are no good answers for a country when wealth concentration is trending toward unsustainable levels, for a country with medium high religiosity when the clergy are on the side of despots and the congregants are tribalists, when swaths of voters feel their personal entitlement is threatened,…
Maybe secession is not a good answer but, the only answer.
Some of those who signed this ridulous lawsuit were saying that their own election should be tossed out
Let’s take them up on that!

Many of the commenters on the Facebook page of the Republican Party of Texas are advocating secession (overthrow of the US government in their states).
Well, they might be interested in this:
18 U.S.C. § 2385 – U.S. Code – Unannotated Title 18. Crimes and Criminal Procedure § 2385. Advocating overthrow of Government
Whoever knowingly or willfully advocates, abets, advises, or teaches the duty, necessity, desirability, or propriety of overthrowing or destroying the government of the United States or the government of any State, Territory, District or Possession thereof, or the government of any political subdivision therein, by force or violence, or by the assassination of any officer of any such government; or

Whoever organizes or helps or attempts to organize any society, group, or assembly of persons who teach, advocate, or encourage the overthrow or destruction of any such government by force or violence; or becomes or is a member of, or affiliates with, any such society, group, or assembly of persons, knowing the purposes thereof–

If two or more persons conspire to commit any offense named in this section, each shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than twenty years, or both, and shall be ineligible for employment by the United States or any department or agency thereof, for the five years next following his conviction.

And as the world gets ready to bid auf wiedersehento Trump, the president must now endure the ignominious insult of being named “Loser of the Year” by one of Europe’s most widely read newsweeklies.
Der Spiegel, roughly the German journalistic equivalent of TIME—which, coincidentally, just named President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris its vaunted “Person of the Year”—on Thursday published an article entitled “Der Verlierer des Jahres,” or “Loser of the Year” in English.

4 Stabbed and One Shot as Trump Supporters and Opponents Clash
Supporters of the president in several cities said they were still convinced that the election was stolen, no matter what the courts say. Some confrontations with counterprotesters turned violent.
WASHINGTON — Incensed by a Supreme Court ruling that further dashed President Trump’s hopes of invalidating his November electoral defeat, thousands of his supporters marched in Washington and several state capitals on Saturday to protest what they contended, against all evidence, was a stolen election.
In some places, angry confrontations between protesters and counterprotesters escalated into violence. There were a number of scuffles in the national capital, where four people were stabbed, and the police declared a riot in Olympia, Wash., where one person was shot…
State and federal courts have rejected dozens of lawsuits by Mr. Trump’s allies seeking to challenge the election results, but the pointed refusal by the Supreme Court on Friday to hear a case filed by the attorney general of Texas loomed the largest yet. By foreclosing one of the last legal avenues Mr. Trump had to potentially block Mr. Biden from succeeding him on Inauguration Day, it left many of his partisans casting angrily about for answers.
Trump flags dotted the air above Freedom Plaza in Washington, where demonstrators — including many members of the far-right Proud Boys group — chanted “four more years!” and vowed not to recognize Joseph R. Biden Jr. as the president-elect…
Stephanie Lalich, 55, who traveled from Baltimore to join the protest in Washington, said that voting machines had been used for widespread electoral fraud — a claim that has been proved false — and that judges had not sided with Mr. Trump because they did not want to take on the issue.
“They don’t want to deal with this,” Ms. Lalich said. “It’s going to have to go nuclear, using the Insurrection Act and bringing out the military.”
One of Mr. Trump’s former national security advisers, Michael T. Flynn, whom Mr. Trump pardoned in November, told Trump supporters near the Supreme Court building not to “get bent out of shape” by the latest setback, assuring them that there were still ways to fight back.
“We decide the election,” he said, greeted by cheers. “We’re waging a battle across America.”…
“WE HAVE JUST BEGUN TO FIGHT!!!” Trump tweeted Saturday after calling the Supreme Court ruling a “disgraceful miscarriage of justice.”
A Quinnipiac University poll released Thursday found that 77 percent of Republicans believe there was widespread fraud and 70 percent believe Biden’s win was not legitimate. The poll was taken after more than 40 fraud cases had been dismissed or withdrawn due to lack of evidence.
I don’t know, letting the Republicans know all elections going forward are completely fake … seems like FDR letting Hitler know he had broken his enigma codes.
All to stop ???? TRUMP a man that should be supplied all the rope he needs to do himself in.
Now the next monster of Right can completely ignore politics. God help us all.

Covid-19’s U.S. toll: Nearly 300,000 lives lost as nation starts seeing days with more than 3,000 deaths reported
U.S. covid-19 deaths soared from 250,000 to nearly 300,000 in just the past four weeks. The year of the coronavirus is ending much as the pandemic began, with overwhelmed hospitals and thousands of deaths each day. There is still no national plan for curbing the spread of the virus, just a hodgepodge of conflicting local and state approaches to everything from shutdowns to masking up.
Biden got over 81,000,000 votes. Donald must know know how to count. These numbers are way above his mental capacity to comprehend.
Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) Tweeted:
The Supreme Court had ZERO interest in the merits of the greatest voter fraud ever perpetrated on the United States of America. All they were interested in is “standing”, which makes it very difficult for the President to present a case on the merits. 75,000,000 votes!
Opps. Must NOT know how to count.
He only has 74 million votes—7 million less than Biden. I dunno what “standing” means.
“Standing” means they have no grounds to sue for relief because they suffered no injury.
Under our federal system, each state writes its own election laws. Texas has no standing to tell Michigan or Georgia how to conduct its elections.
Ah, thx.
Maybe Don doesn’t know that 81 is larger than 74.
