Marijuana growers should donate a lot of money to the two Democrats running for the Senate in Georgia. With changes in the federal law, it could be a windfall for them as well as tax coffers. It would even up the Senate and give Harris the deciding vote.

Let’s agree that it would be good to forbid politicians from investing in stocks period. But using inside information to profit when you are telling the public exactly the opposite of what is true about a pandemic while you yourself benefit financially from it is beyond reprehensible.
The Christian Science Monitor, on Nov. 15, 2011, provided a comprehensive report on that 2008 IPO that makes it clear it was nothing like what Loeffler and Purdue did. Why are you so determined to normalize what Loeffler and Purdue did? Do you really hate Warnock and Ossoff as much as the Trump alt right hates them? They are the far right’s worst enemies being African American and Jewish. Why change the subject to help two corrupt right wing white Republicans to defeat those democrats?

These are men who ask not what they can do for their country but what the country can do for them–an inversion of the line that Ted Sorensen wrote for John F. Kennedy (alas, the fate of the ghostwriter, to be forever eclipsed).
So, these Senators are a couple of crooks. What a surprise.
However, while we are on the subject of that line of Sorensen’s/Kennedy’s , consider this. The famous second paragraph of the Declaration of Independence begins as follows:
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed
“That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men.” In other words, what Jefferson and the founders who signed that document were at pains to emphasize was that government exists to serve the people. And so, the people have every right, under the theory on which this country is founded, to ask what the government can do for them. That’s the whole point of democratic government. That’s why, under this theory that legitimate government derives from the consent of the governed, government exists to secure the rights of the people. The document didn’t say, “People exist to serve the state.” That’s the theory of monarchy and of fascism. And that’s why the Sorensen/Kennedy line about the relation of individuals to the country can’t be read as being about the relation of individuals to the government. In that direction lies idiotic nationalism of the kind one sees in, say, Trump and his cult.

I read an essay about twelve or thirteen years ago about how members of Congress came into office with a net worth of, on average 250K, earned 165K a year, and several years later were worth millions. Such serendipity! All those lucky guesses in the market.
It would be interesting to do the same study today.
