As always, David Dayen of the American Prospect is a good guide to the inner world of Washington, D.C., politics.
In this post, he explains what’s happening during the lame duck session of Congress. As you will learn, Mitch McConnell is calling the shots. He doesn’t care what Trump wants; he is history.
If we can win the Senate via Georgia, so will McConnell be, if not toast, at least not calling all of the shots. CBK
If Democrats could win both seats in Georgia, there would be a 50-50 split and Kamala would break tie votes.
I’d bet the farm that neither Dem has a chance.
With Stacy Abrams leading the charge in Georgia.. who knows???
yep. She is MVP of the 2020 election in my book (whether Trump wins or loses in Georgia) and should be put in charge of the run off with an unlimited budget.
Then she should take over the DNC, install only the people she wants, and have an unlimited budget to oversee electing democrats.
Brilliant, brilliant woman. I’d want her to be president except she is even more valuable if she takes over the DNC and cleans house to get rid of all the inept cronies who have had high paying sinecure jobs without having any talent whatsoever to deserve it. (Not to say that there aren’t good people at the DNC, too, who just need Stacey Abrams’ leadership so their talents are directed appropriately and not wasted).
Too much money spent on ads instead of hiring good people like Abrams and her staff in Georgia who have talent and not privilege and connections.
Abrams is only 46, and when the democrats have a huge majority because of Abrams’ brilliance, she can run for president! Here is to the next 20 years with her in charge.
I don’t see any hopes for state/local bailouts on the scale that would avert austerity. NYC and the MTA are heading off a cliff with no leadership.
McConnell has already stated that the Senate will make a stimulus package the first order of business after the election. https://www.cnbc.com/2020/11/04/election-2020-mcconnell-says-stimulus-will-be-senates-top-priority-before-end-of-2020.html
We need more than “stimulus”
Agree with you 100%, FLERP!
It would be an excellent thing if Andrew Cuomo was also forced out.
Cuomo is absolutely Trumpian in now blaming de Blasio for the losses upstate! Cuomo always has some scapegoat to blame — usually whoever he sees as an easy target while he kowtows to the powerful and debases himself to make them happy.
Illinois is facing a world (or state) of pain, not having passed a graduated tax (lost 55%-45%). Once again, it’s the revenue, stupid! I’m sure you in NYC know something about billionaire Ken Griffin (wealthiest man in IL) because he recently bought a 24K square foot NYC penthouse for $238 million, the highest-priced home ever sold in the U.S–& this being his “pied-a-terre!” on Central Park South (not to mention the most expen$ive home in Chicago–$58.75 million–the top 4 floors of a Gold Coast buildng–priciest neighborhood in Chgo.). & THIS is who was behind the “No Tax Hike Amendment!” How stupid are Illinoisians who voted against this to think that Ken Griffin was SO concerned about their taxes being raised?! Of course, it was a “millionaire’s” tax…a graduated tax, duh?
Now ALL of us will be burned–except for Ken Griffin & the rest of the IL millionaires & billionaires, i.e. Of course, Gov. Pritzker (who has shown great leadership during covid, & his stood his ground against it45–publicly–standing behind & listening to science) said the cuts will be painful, & just guess what is going to be one of the deepest cut? (Hint: it’s in the subtitle of this blog).
One bright spot: many of the commercials were predicated upon the corruption in Springfield. Now–for real–they are finally going after the Speaker of the House (who is still saying he refuses to resign), who is at the core of the corruption.
Illinois has even been nicknamed “Madiganistan” (his name is Madigan).
Not surprisingly, people have been saying “Lock him up!” for years.
