A Biden campaign bus driving from San Antonio to Austin was surrounded by Trump supporters who slowed it down and endangered those on the bus. Some of the Trumpers were armed.
They appeared following a call from Don Trump Jr. to show up at Biden-Harris events.
In a video ahead of a Friday event by Biden’s running mate, Sen. Kamala Harris, Trump Jr. encouraged his father’s supporters to show up at Harris’s event.
“Hey Laredo, Don Jr. here,” he said. “I heard you had an awesome turnout for the Trump Train. It’d be great if you guys would all get together, head down to McAllen and give Kamala Harris a nice Trump Train welcome. Get out there, have some fun, enjoy it. Don’t forget to vote and bring all of your friends. Let’s show them how strong Texas still is as Trump country. Get out there, guys.”
Some Trump supporters appeared to heed the call. At least one Facebook event with more than 700 responses, viewed by The Daily Beast, encouraged Trump fans to attend a Harris event in Fort Worth, Texas on Friday and “give Kamala Harris a big Texas welcome….. TRUMP STYLE!” The event was listed as canceled ahead of time, although its organizers acknowledged that some people might still try to attend, “and that’s your right.”

Well, my dream was that Federal Marshals took him off in handcuffs on January 20, 2016 before he could take the oath of office, but it didn’t happen, unfortunately.

Alberto Fujimori was president of Peru from 1990-2000. As he came under scrutiny for human rights abuses, including forced sterilization of indigeneous women, and drug trafficking in 2000, he traveled to Japan, his ancestral homeland, on official business, and resigned his office by fax. His resignation was rejected and he was subsequently impeached. Peru did not have an extradition treaty with Japan, so Fujimori remained out of reach. But in 2005, Fujimori decide to run for president again. In transit through Chile, he was arrested and extradited to Peru to stand charges.
He was found guilty of several charges and served 10 years before receiving a pardon from President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski in December of 2017. Widespread protests ensued and Kuczynski was accused of corruption because Fujimori’s son had been instrumental to the president’s surviving impeachment a few days earlier. Fujimori was returned to prision in January of 2019.
Keiko Fujimori, daughter of Alberto, assumed the role of First Lady in the aftermath of her parent’s 1994 divorce, in which her mother accused her father of having her tortured at the hands of security forces. Keiko became the leader of the Fujimorista Party and was elected to the Senate. She ran for president in 2011 and 2016, narrowly losing both times. It was understood that her father would be freed if she won. In 2018, she was sentenced to 36 months of “preventive prison” on charges of money laundering in 2011. She was granted supervised release due to covid in April this year.

Many of the “best people,” he called them when he appointed them, are in jail or under indictment or have denounced him as an idiot with “the understanding of a fifth- or sixth-grader.” Over twenty-five women have come forward to accuse him of sexual assault and rape. He has pretended to be a fundamentalist Christian while mocking evangelicals openly to staff behind their back. He has pretended to be a patriot while telling staff he wants to withdraw from NATO and mocking people who have died for their country as “suckers” and “losers.” He stands to be indicted for bank and insurance fraud on leaving office. He has ordered the separation of babies from their lactating mothers. He has divided the country more deeply than at any time since the Civil War. He has behaved so abominably in office that whenever he speaks to an international audience, they openly laugh at him. And then there is the response, or, rather, nonresponse to Covid-19. Since 2001, the US has spent over $6 trillion on military operations
and war, money that might have been invested in the infrastructure of

With the COVID crisis, 40 million Americans have lost their jobs, and
3.3 million businesses have shut down, including 41 percent of all
black-owned enterprises.
COVID-19 has not laid America low; it has simply revealed what has
long been forsaken. As the crisis unfolds, with another American dying
every minute of every day, a country that once turned out fighter
planes by the hour could not manage to produce the paper masks or
cotton swabs essential for tracking the disease. The nation that

— climate change, the extinction crisis, pandemics — when the country

cruel, but it accurately reflects the view of America today as seen
from the perspective of any modern social democracy.

Americans made in 2016 to prioritize their personal indignation,

One shudders to think of what it will mean to the world if Americans

The end of the American era and the passing of the torch to Asia is no

are ascendant, with their concentration camps for the Uighur, the
ruthless reach of their military, their 200 million surveillance
cameras watching every move and gesture of their people, we will
surely long for the best years of the American century.

I do not know which author you are referring to but I am tired of reading excuses that have signal the problem is not Trump and his supporters but has deeper roots, and so on.
Trump and his supporters have been cultivating cheating, violence, voter intimidation by armed militias as if these are perfectly OK–as long as you keep power. This wrong. It is unprecedented in this nation and amplified by falsehoods propagated on Twitter, Facebook and other social media where profit drives outrageous content including lies.

I am certainly no Trump fan and am certainly not making any excuses. But I would have to agree with the author of that piece that Trump is a symptom of a much bigger disease.
A lot of Americans can’t see the larger problem, which is why it takes Canadians and other outsiders to point it out.
I would also say that one thing that bothers ME in the current charged climate is that it’s nearly impossible to point out uncomfortable truths if they can be construed (no matter how circuitously) to be making excuses for Trump.
I can’t see that the Canadian author was even doing so, nor that I have, but apparently it came across that way.

Not sure how much you know of the history around the climate change issue, but NASA scientist James Hansen first pointed out to Congress over 30 years ago !! (In 1988) that human injection of CO2 into the atmosphere was causing warming and would likely continue to cause warming if something were not done about it.
But the response from both major parties was pretty much nil until fairly recently.
Yes, the Republicans have been consistent outright deniers since back then, but, with a very few exceptions (AOC and the Green New Deal, which the Green Party and candidate Jill Stein were pushing long ago, by the way) even in recent times, Democratic response has been mediocre at best.
Obama certainly did not make climate change a major issue his first term and barely mentioned it in his 2012 campaign and even the Paris accord (though a start) was woefully inadequate for addressing the problem. Sure, Obama did some good things like increasing fuel economy standards and reducing power plant emissions, but because they were done through executive orders and agency policies, they were easily reversed by Trump. When Obama had a majority in both houses of Congress he was not even willing to give full throated support to a carbon tax. There was an effort, but without Obama as a cheerleader, it died.
Fast forward to just recently when Nancy Pelosi has effectively watered down the Green New Deal plan of AOC and others. Pelosi even endorsed Joe Kennedy over Green New Deal cosponsor Markey for Senate
I point all of this out not to make Trump look any less bad (and it’s hard to see how that is even possible on climate change), but instead to highlight the fact that the problem in Washington goes much deeper than any one leader or even any one party.
The FACT is that both major parties have failed miserably on the cli mate change issue.
It’s good that the Democrats have finally come around to acknowledging it as an important issue, but it has taken FAR too long.
And make no mistake: the fact that it has taken so long will have very real and possibly devastating consequences for people around the world.
Not only the deniers, but the people who hemmed and hawed and fiddled while the Earth burned have foreclosed on the futures of millions (if not billions of people).
That’s not just my opinion, by the way, but also the opinion of the scientist who highlighted the problem back in 1988.

John Lewis could easily have died in Selma and never been recognized as the icon he was. He was prepared to do so. Are we? We might well find out soon. Some might argue that what the people on the bus did — nothing– was the best course of action.
What would it have accomplished if they had tried nonviolent resistance? What would that have even looked like? If they had tried to get off the bus, what would have happened?

Since Trump thrives on chaos and encourages harm, most likely at least one Trump lover would have felt it was his ‘duty’ to shoot. These people are mean and angry and they are gun lovers. I don’t see them caring one twit for “nonviolent resistance”.
I am worried on what will happen on voting day. Trump will declare himself the winner no matter what the vote count is. He will be screaming “FRAUD” loudly if the counts don’t show him winning by a huge margin.
What will these gun lovers do?
I agree. I think if anyone had got off the bus, there is a good chance they might have been shot. And to accomplish what?
One of the things that MLK, Lewis, Gandhi and others understood very well was the importance of choosing and preparing for one’s battles” before they occur.
What that means in the case of nonviolent resistance is that everyone involved understands not only how to behave and how to defuse potential violence but also understands the potential violent consequences even of any nonviolent action they might undertake.
Those are all things one has to learn BEFOREhand through nonviolence training . They are not something that everyone just “knows”

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is looking into a Friday incident in which a group of Trump supporters, driving trucks and waving Trump flags, surrounded and followed a Biden campaign bus as it drove up I-35 in Hays County, a law enforcement official confirmed to The Texas Tribune Saturday.
The confrontation, captured on video, featured at least one minor collision and led to Texas Democrats canceling three scheduled campaign events on Friday. The campaign officials cited “safety concerns” for the cancellations.

“The communities in which Trump rallies took place paid a high price in terms of disease and death,” a new study finds.
As the U.S. coronavirus caseload surpassed nine million on Friday, Stanford University economists published a study that connected 18 of President Donald Trump’s reelection rallies from June 20 to September 30 with more than 30,000 Covid-19 infections and over 700 deaths — tallies that don’t include the month of October, when cases nationwide surged.
“Our analysis strongly supports the warnings and recommendations of public health officials concerning the risk of Covid-19 transmission at large group gatherings, particularly when the degree of compliance with guidelines concerning the use of masks and social distancing is low,” wrote (pdf) Stanford’s B. Douglas Bernheim, Nina Buchmann, Zach Freitas-Groff, and Sebastián Otero. “The communities in which Trump rallies took place paid a high price in terms of disease and death.”
The new study comes after an analysis published Tuesday by the think tank Center for American Progress which found that half of the 22 campaign rallies Trump held between June and September were followed by county-level increases in Covid-19 infections. There have been longstanding concerns about how to ensure President Donald Trump leaves the White House if he loses tomorrow’s election—but, at the moment, someone is more worried about people getting in. According to reports from CNN and NBC News, federal authorities are expected to erect a huge “non-scalable” fence around the entire perimeter of the White House on Monday in anticipation of possible unrest on Election Day and beyond. It will be similar to the fence built during protests this summer, according to the reports. Police in Washington, D.C. have been preparing for election violence for weeks, and have said they’re particularly concerned about what would happen if there’s no clear winner tomorrow night.

Trump on supporters who surrounded Biden bus: ‘These patriots did nothing wrong’

On Sunday evening, President Donald Trump once again cheered on a group of supporters in Texas who surrounded and followed a Biden campaign bus driving up I-35 in Hays County. The Federal Bureau of Investigation said it was looking into the incident, which happened on Friday and was captured on video from multiple angles.
The “Trump Train” — a caravan of trucks waving Trump and American flags — appeared to try to slow down the Biden campaign bus, as supporters honked their horns and shouted. The confrontation resulted in at least one minor collision and led to Texas Democrats canceling three scheduled campaign events that day, citing “safety concerns.”
“In my opinion, these patriots did nothing wrong. Instead, the FBI & Justice should be investigating the terrorists, anarchists, and agitators of ANTIFA, who run around burning down our Democrat run cities and hurting our people!” Trump said in a tweet. He had previously posted one of the videos showing the caravan along with the comment, “I LOVE TEXAS!”…
Earlier in the day, Trump also claimed his supporters were “protecting” the bus and “being nice” when they slowed it down on the highway, according to media reportsfrom a rally he held in Michigan. By contrast, Naomi Narvaiz, a Texas Republican Party official in San Marcos, told The Texas Tribune that supporters formed the convoy to show they backed Trump. “We don’t want any of the values or policies that the Democratic Party is embracing,” she said…

Good for Biden for recognizing that he will add muslims to his administration. Our country is a melting pot and each culture has something to add to the whole. There is nothing evil about Islam. There is nothing evil about Hinduism or spirituality. If you don’t want an abortion, don’t get one but don’t tell me what I have to do. “Vote for Trump”? Trump is a pathological liar who, when out of the camera range, has mocked Evangelicals. Former aides have said he has ridiculed religious leaders. BLM exists because of inherent racism that persists in America. Planned Parenthood provides basic medical services to the poor. Trump has worked to bring chaos, hatred and division to the country. Is this the ‘virtues of Christianity’ that we are supposed to admire and push for in our government?
