Yep, I signed and sent it to the current or retired teachers that I know. [Not to Trump supporters, however.]

In Illinois, the Republicans stress in person voting, because the Democratics would steal the mail in votes. 🤔😮
Now, the Illinois Republicans stress mail in voting, because Governor Pritzker, a Democratic, would shut down Election Day voting due to covid-19. 🤔😮

An early nickname for people moving into Illinois was sucker. This was because they were so numerous they reminded people of the carp that swam up River in the spring. They probably would not like that nickname now.

Sounds like an East coast slur.

Also because now–if one hasn’t mailed in his/her/their ballot yet, it is probably not going to get to the local election authority in time to be counted. It’s all over the news…& not Fox News.

retiredbutmissthekids: Indiana, Gov. Holcomb [R-IN], said that Hoosiers whose ballots come in after noon on Nov. 3, 2020 will not be counted. On the application for mail-in ballot it says, “For Nov. 3, General Election, deadline for county to receive is October 22, 2020 by 11:59pm. [local prevailing time.”]
I’m sure this will mean a number of ballots won’t be counted. It’s the Republican way of making sure they get re-elected.
He would not expand the number of voters who can use mail-in voting. [There are specific reasons to be able to mail-in such as, “I will be confined to my residence, a health care facility, or a hospital due to illness or injury during the entire 12 hours that the polls are open. OR I am scheduled to work at my regular place of employment during the entire 12 hours that the polls are open. OR I am a voter at least sixty-five [65] years of age..etc. The appropriate reason has to be checked off on the mail-in application.]
He said that people can now go to grocery stores, theaters, gyms, etc. so they can vote in person. Of course the number of infected has risen dramatically since he put out Stage 5, which is total ‘normalcy’ except for asking people to wear a mask.
He will not authorize mask wearings but keeps saying people should wear one. There is no penalty if you don’t wear one.
Facts never matter to Trump supporters:
The Vanderbilt analysis compares Tennessee hospitals based on how many of their patients come from counties with mask requirements.
In hospitals where at least 75% of patients are subject to a local mask requirement, COVID hospitalizations are at about the same level now as they were July 1.
In hospitals where fewer than 25% of patients are subject to a local mask mandate, however, hospitalizations are more than 200% higher than their July 1 levels.

I have never been so aware of how much we come up short in having actual democracy. We have three branches of government. The legislative is divided into two parts. The house are members who, roughly speaking, have one person representing an equal number of citizens, but this is often not the case, as a result of gerrymandering. The other part is the senate, which inherently undemocratic, because each state has only 2 senators. Rhode Island and California have the same power, theoretically. This body has powers which are immense. The house can impeach a president or others, but it is the senate which can remove a president. Since it requires 2/3, a relatively small population could remove a president who still has the support of the majority. A small number of states could also block the removal of a president out of favor with the majority of the citizens. The senate has powers which go far beyond that of the house.
There is an executive branch. The president has twice been elected by a candidate with fewer votes in this century, and the combination of powers with all three branches have many of us nervous about whether Trump will make it happen three times out of six. No one is considering the possibility that he will win the majority of the votes. The population takes the electoral college for granted, like it is some sort of magical making things even tool. It is not It is a handy tool for the people who already hold most of the power.
The judicial branch is in danger of becoming the result of our lack of democracy. There will now be six conservative judges…….how does that happen if we have President Gore, President Hillary, and President Biden? It doesn’t/
Democracy would not be a perfect way to govern. But more of it would be a better way.
Most obvious way to add more would be to correct the abusive practice used by presidents in choosing judges. Allow at least a couple more.

Three names prominently associated with the Federalist Society- Antonin Scalia, Leonard Leo and Steven Calabresi.
Media report that between 10-9 and 10-19, before the confirmation of Amy Barrett, Calabresi donated the maximum amount allowed to the campaigns of 6 GOP Senators in tight re-election races. (FEC data is referenced.) Calabresi was quoted in a 1987 interview about the Federalist Society. He said, “I will say that there is agreement among most members that Roe v. Wade is wrong.” The final paragraph of the article’s interview quotes a person who was, in hindsight, a very poor prognosticator. He speculated that “success would moderate the Federalist Society’s ultra conservative view, a phenomenon that occurred at AEI and the Heritage Foundations”.
At some point, some number of blog readers will accept that there are partners creating a colonialism model for the U.S. The power brokers are conservative religions and billionaires.

Democracy is the fundamental right of all on the earth but in the name of democracy, we are always violating it. It may be the field of research on how democracy lives in the future with his own power. Practicing democracy is really a special criterion of a leader and then and only then it will flourish its own power. People live in a beautiful world.
