CNN reporter Donnie O’Sullivan reports that the Trump campaign is releasing doctored videos that purport to show that Biden is senile or is an extremist. When the campaign is asked why they traffic in manipulated and false ads, they say it’s a joke. However, Trump’s followers are not in on the joke, and they believe what they see.
Somehow, I imagined that there was a federal elections commission to hold campaigns accountable for lies, but Trump must have killed it or filled it with loyalists to him.
At a Trump rally in Bemidji, Minnesota, last Friday, grievances against social media platforms Twitter and Facebook were a common refrain.
Many of the President’s supporters told CNN that they felt the platforms’ fact-checking processes were biased against conservative viewpoints. Others discussed social media posts that contained manipulated media as if they were real.
“Like when Joe Biden fell asleep during a live interview on television,” one supporter recalled, describing a video that went viral only a few weeks prior to the rally.
The video — which appears to show Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden sleeping as a TV news anchor repeats, “Wake up!” — was shared on Twitter by White House social media director Dan Scavino.
But the video was fake.
It was achieved by splicing together real footage of a 2011 interview between journalist Leyla Santiago, now of CNN, and entertainer and activist Harry Belafonte with footage of Biden looking down, his eyes appearing at least partially closed, to make it appear as if he were snoozing. An audio track of loud snoring was placed on the video to complete the effect.
When the video was fact-checked by news outlets, including CNN, and eventually labeled as “manipulated media” by Twitter, prominent Trump supporters complained that it was an obvious joke and a meme.

For more examples of Trump ads that were lies about Biden, see here.
Trump needs to lie to defame Biden.
Biden can show actual clips of Trump at his rally to demonstrate his lies about the coronavirus.
Thanks for fact checking. Make America think again!
Trump and company will do anything to win. His philosophy is “winners take all.” A British IT company revealed that certain ads on Facebook targeted black voters in the 2016. The title of the folders was “deterrence.” These ads tried to deter black voters from voting. https://www.channel4.com/news/revealed-trump-campaign-strategy-to-deter-millions-of-black-americans-from-voting-in-2016. The RNC has some people that worked for Cambridge Analytica working the 2020 campaign.
We Blacks aren’t sitting home, instead of voting, because of Facebook ads. 😁🔔
“Disruptive innovation” in social media is endangering the nation. The implication of the Trump campaign’s use of deep fake videos is this: You should not trust what you see, and hear, or read because it could be “fake.”
Of course, that is Trump’s standard claim to dismiss all criticism of his outrageous conduct.
Calling these bits of propaganda “jokes” is a softer way of saying they are fake, while maintaining the truth that they are designed as persuasive lies with a smiley face.
The techniques for creating these audio-visual “fool the eye and mind” pranks have been made accessible to many with You Tube demos and free or low cost software.
See for example the tutorials at key phrase: How to create deep fake videos.
This is absolutely outrageous. Trump is willing to do ANYTHING to be re-elected.
I am angry because people believe everything he says. How many comments, on other sites, have I read about Biden being senile? This is not a joke. It’s total misuse of the media to spread false propaganda.
If you can’t win with the truth…then lying is acceptable, but only if you have no morals. That is a definition of Trump.
Those doctored and revised videos plus Trump’s latest claims that Biden is taking drugs to hide his dementia may explain why Trump told his advisers that he will not be coached, schooled to get ready for the debate that I have been reading due to the regular anonymous leaks out of the White House.
I think Trump has no intention of debating the issues other than to keep repeating that the facts Biden will use are all fake news. What I think Trump is going to do is turn the debate into a circus focusing on making Biden look like he has dementia, is easy to manipulate are is frail.
Remember the debates with Hillary when Clinton stalked her around the stage looking like a crazed sniffling stalker and junkie?
Tonight we will probably witness Trump’s depravity at its worst lowliness that his demented, deplorable, uneducated, nonreading (they may be literate at Trump’s level but they do not read), over 65 white-man, racist, rural core of evangelical followers love/worship about him.
What Trump does on stage is going to be an act for his base, the hardcore MAGA hat loving voters that flock to his hate rallies. He is counting on them to become his army for the Civil War he hopes will keep him in the White House for the rest of his life so he can avoid paying off the loans coming due in 2022.
Just imagine all of those ignorant, overweight, rural 65 and over white men who spend most of their retried lives on worn-out, cheap, stained couches watching and listening to the same liars that Trump watches, waddling and wheezing to war (without medical care or Social Security once Trump is done with those programs) to save their god.
Revised comment: Since I cannot edit/revise my first comment, here is number two with correction for what I couldn’t see because of that tiny window WordPress provides for writing comments. I copied and pasted the original into Word and edited that, and then copied it into that tiny window again.

I agree, when we recall what he did in the GOP debates in 2016 as well as with Hillary. It was all a circus and adolescent insult fest on Trump’s part. Trump will come out yapping and charging about, he will attack, attack, attack with lies, lies and more lies. His base will love his performance.
Expect to be repulsed, outraged and —if you are part of his base—entertained
This rot in the White House just has to go. It’s disgusting.
This is the “man” so many people follow?
Just when you think he can do nothing to
top his already outrageous behavior,
there is more to come.
Actually this kind of thing is becoming
almost commonplace.
Today, we have been comparing the the French Declaration of the Roghts of Man and Citizen to the American Bill of Rights. I wish Chris Wallace would plop the two documents down on the respective podiums of these two and ask them to discuss them with each other. Then I might watch the debate.
This attempt could be stopped in its tracks if the media wasn’t so awful — I’m talking about you NYT — which will very likely “balance” their story about Trump’s tax returns with 20 or 30 front page stories that run in the next month:
Today – “Republicans say Biden demented”
Then – “Debate viewers consider whether Biden is demented”
Then – “Biden campaign worries he seemed demented at debate”.
Then – “Biden campaign fighting to prove he isn’t demented”.
Then – “Why is Biden having such a hard time convincing voters he isn’t demented?”
Then – “Much discussion among voters about Biden’s dementia”
Then – “Biden’s dementia becomes big story”
Then – “Dementia story worries voters”
Then – “Bernie voters angry that people didn’t listen to them when they warned them about Biden’s dementia”
Then – “Even Bernie voters insist Biden is demented” (having “Bernie voters” say it gives the pro-Trump narrative far more credibility than if they said that “right wing trolls who claim to be Bernie voters but are obsessed with defending President Trump say it.”)
The real story should be President Trump’s dementia! The fact that more people are talking about Biden’s dementia than Trump’s dementia is an exact repeat of 2016, when more people were talking about the democrat’s untrustworthy and dishonest nature, when they should have been talking about Trump’s!!
And no, this is not Biden’s fault that the media follows the right wing narrative pushed by the Republican Party and the few complicit folks on the left who will be glad when Trump wins because racism doesn’t bother them.
And pure absurdity — I watched Rudy Giuliani — RUDY GIULIANI!! — talking about Biden’s dementia. Giuliani, who spews complete nonsense on a regular basis is given credibility to comment on Biden’s so called “dementia” without his own demented statements — which are 1000x worse — being brought up.
John Kerry “lied” and said that Pottery Barn has a policy “you break it, you buy it”, but Pottery Barn has no such policy! The media spent more time questioning Kerry’s “honesty” than the honesty of GW Bush, the president who lied and got us into a war!
This is an exact repeat and the media is not shutting it down.
Here is what the headlines SHOULD be:
“Trump campaign desperate to attack Biden”
“Trump campaign upset that Trump’s many demented statements are hurting their attempt to smear Biden with lies”
“Trump campaign divided because demented Giuliani is making Trump look even more demented”
“Americans believe Trump is more demented than Biden”.
I know this will end with the public believing that it is Biden who is the demented danger to democracy, not Trump. Just like the public believed in 2016 that it was the democrat who was the corrupt and dishonest liar who only cared about herself and rich people.
Watching history repeat itself is depressing. But anyone here who repeats the “Biden showed dementia” meme after the debate — and we know that will happen — is a right wing troll because if they had any concern about the mental fitness of the candidates, they would not be desperately defending Trump all the time.
All this right wing propaganda has no effect on me. I already voted for Biden and checked on the status of my mail-in ballot. IT HAS BEEN RECEIVED!!! Hurrah. And I put it in the mail on Saturday.
Unfortunately, it is not directed as you — it’s directed at the few people still undecided who could make the difference in whether Trump is re-elected.
And it only works if the media gives it credibility, instead of labeling it for what it is — nonsense that is a sign of the dementia of the Trump campaign. But it will be given credibility, because otherwise how can the NYT prove that it’s “fair and balanced” when they were so mean to Trump to report on his tax returns. Now the NYT must give equal weight to Biden’s “huge problem” — his dementia. Because the right has managed to convince the so-called liberal media that if they don’t give serious weight to Biden’s dementia as a huge issue that needs to be reported on, they would look too “biased”.
I LOVE it!!
The Hill:
Biden releases 2019 tax returns hours before first presidential debate
Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden and his running mate Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) released their 2019 federal and state tax returns on Tuesday, hours before the former vice president meets face-to-face with President Trump in the first debate of the 2020 presidential race.
This is indeed scary. More people watch Fox than any other network news. Lies abound.
………………………………..
The Fox News Powder Keg
On November 3, the network’s framing of the election narrative may help alleviate nationwide chaos—or sow it.
According to a recent Pew Research Center survey, 61 percent of Republicans who only consume talk radio and/or Fox News say mail-in-ballot fraud “is a major problem.” (Trump voted by mail last month.) Baier, Wallace, and MacCallum might play it straight, but other voices on Fox are not held to the same standards. As the hours tick by, Fox guests will be free to interpret whatever election data happen to be available, then frame the information as favorable to Trump. Millions of Americans will hear these arguments, as will the president. The Trump campaign may also influence talking points that make it directly to air. This has happened before, on Election Night, on Fox News…

Manipulated media on manipulative media (Twitter)?
What a surprise.
There is no link to this article, but I think it is worth reading.
We must get out the vote or this monster will be back to destroy this country.

Tax Revelations and Corporate Media Won’t Defeat Trump
By Norman Solomon, Reader Supported News
29 September 20
The big banner headline across the top of the New York Times home page as Tuesday got underway – “TRUMP’S TAXES SHOW CHRONIC LOSSES AND YEARS OF TAX AVOIDANCE” – might give the impression that Donald Trump is finally on the verge of political downfall. Don’t believe it for a moment.
The same kind of mistaken belief has led many to put undeserved trust in a corporate-media system. But The New York Times isn’t going to save us. Neither is The Washington Post, MSNBC, CNN or any of the other mass-media outlets, “liberal” or otherwise.
To a large extent, the corporate media – especially the TV networks that gave Trump billions of dollars’ worth of free airtime while raking in enormous ad revenues – made him president. The advertising-and-ratings-bedazzled head of the CBS network, Leslie Moonves, uttered an infamously emblematic comment eight months before the 2016 election, in the midst of a campaign that Trump dominated with TV coverage: “It may not be good for America, but it’s damn good for CBS.”
Less well-known are other statements that Moonves also made while speaking to a Morgan Stanley conference in February 2016. “Man, who would have expected the ride we’re all having right now?” And: “The money’s rolling in and this is fun.” And: “I’ve never seen anything like this, and this is going to be a very good year for us. Sorry. It’s a terrible thing to say. But, bring it on, Donald. Keep going.” And: “Donald’s place in this election is a good thing.”
At the same time, CNN president Jeff Zucker – who presided over the network’s “all-Trump-all-the-time” policy during the 2016 primaries – was privately offering guidance to candidate Trump. Zucker had helped build the Trump myth years earlier when he was at NBC presiding over Trump’s “Apprentice” show, which turned out to be financially and politically crucial for his path to the White House.
Under the ongoing reign of the casino economy, the corporate house is set up to always win.
Now, after doing so much to help create a political Frankenstein, most of the big media organizations are largely disapproving. While the right-wing zealots at places like Fox News and aligned talk-radio and online entities are determined to re-elect Trump, the majority of mainstream media outlets are down on him. Yet the tenor of their coverage, including news of the latest polls, should not lull anyone into a false sense of security about Trump’s impending demise – a demise they’ve predicted before.
Trump won in 2016 while the bubble inhabited by elite media was rarified and cut off from the everyday experiences, frustrations and anger of everyday people. As a consummate demagogue, he knew how to stoke and pander to resentments against elites – resentments that mainstream media seemed clueless about.
The corporate media are part of a system that thrives on rampant income inequality, giving more and more power to the rich while doing more and more harm to people the less money they have. Media elites are apt to do fine whether Trump wins or loses the election.
Four years ago, Trump played off the elitism of the establishment to ply his toxic political product laced with racism, xenophobia and misogyny. He has governed the same way he ran in 2016, and he hopes to govern for the next four years the way he’s running in 2020 – using the broadly and vaguely defined establishment as a foil for his poisonous, pseudo-populist messaging.
Amid the bombshell coverage of Trump’s tax records, it might be tempting to believe the tide has turned and will drown his election hopes. But that’s wishful thinking.
It would take more than two hands to count the times during the last several years when Trump’s preposterous and vile statements – or the emergence of incontrovertibly damning facts – provided ample reasons for his political fortunes to turn into toast. Instead, he has continued to conduct a national master class in demagogy.
Trump would like nothing more than to play his victim card yet again while media give the impression that he’s headed for defeat – a combination that worked like a charm for him in 2016. It could easily happen again. With voting now underway, healthy skepticism toward media spin is badly needed.
Four years ago, corporate media overwhelmingly insisted that the likelihood of a Trump presidency was remote. On Election Day, The New York Times categorically pegged the chances of a Trump win at less than 10 percent. Now, those who want to prevent another Trump victory should go all-out to show they won’t be fooled again.

The garbage in this ‘truthful’ article speaks about how far the media will go when it wants to make Trump great. Does the Nobel Peace Prize go to people who watch Fox, eat and play golf all the time? Golly, Trump is open to working with China and Indian. How lucky they are.

Democrats Hysterical After Trump Receives Another International Honor
by The Patriotic Times
In a move certain to infuriate Trump-hating leftists, the president has just been nominated for another Nobel Peace Prize – marking the third nomination he’s received in recent weeks.
The nomination comes at the hands of a group of four Australian law professors who are attributing it to the president’s astounding and unique approach to foreign policy which they are calling the “Trump doctrine.”
“The ‘Trump doctrine’ is so extraordinary, as so many things that Donald Trump does, he’s guided by two things which seem to be absent from so many politicians. He has firstly common sense. And he is only guided by a national interest, and therefore, in our circumstances, an interest in the Western alliance,” one of the professors David Flint said during a virtual appearance Monday on Sky News.
Flint pointed out Trump’s desire to end longstanding American conflicts that his predecessors either started or failed to pull the U.S. out of.
“And what he has done with the Trump doctrine is he has decided that he would no longer have America involved in endless wars, wars which achieve nothing but the killing of thousands of young Americans and enormous debts imposed on America, and nothing solved in the countries in which it is carried on. So he’s reducing America’s tendency to get involved in any and every war.”
Flint also focused on President Trump’s unorthodox approach to bringing peace to the Middle East – something which many believed nobody was capable of as most countries refused to acknowledge or deal with Israel.
Several Arab states including the United Arab Emirates (UAE) announced the normalization of relations earlier this month. Flint said that, with all sides crediting Trump for helping to broker the peace deal, the historic advancement would not have been possible without him in the White House.
“What Donald Trump did was go against all advice, but he did it with common sense, he negotiated directly with the Arab states concerned and Israel and brought them together. And the states are lining up, Arab and Middle Eastern, to join that network of peace, which will dominate the Middle East,” Flint said.
Flint then shifted to another region, pointing to the President’s successes in easing tensions with North Korea – despite many insisting at the time he took office that a conflict with them was imminent.
Flint further points to Trump’s withdraw from the Iran nuclear agreement and the Paris climate agreement as reasons to nominate him for the prize.
Earlier in September, President Trump received two other nominations; one by a Norwegian lawmaker citing the UAE-Israel deal, and another by a Swedish lawmaker for the Trump brokered Kosovo-Serbia agreement.
Asked about the nominations and whether he could extend his efforts to China, Trump recently told reporters that he was honored and he would be open to working with China and India.
“I know that China now, and India, are having difficulty, and very—very substantial difficulty. And hopefully they’ll be able to work that out. If we can help, we’d love to help,” he said.
In a separate statement, the White House said the Middle Eastern peace deals were “a testament to the bold diplomacy and vision of President Trump, and he is honored to be considered by the Nobel Committee.”
” fact-checking processes were biased against conservative viewpoints.” LOLOL!!!
I’m going to have to go back & read Apollinaire or whoever the hell they were, those French writers delving into the strange & mirror-like aspects of truth & falsehood over a century ago..
Gotta face it, folks. Those who get their political info via social media are yesterday’s yellow-journalism readers. They have always been among us. The only thing that’s new is the corruptive influence long exercised at the regional level by such means has metastasized & now infests the Capitol.
How did it happen? I’m not going to blame the media, yellow or otherwise. This kind of crap can only emerge from a protracted period of economic downturn. Tho Wall St may be OK, which helps prop up the upper-mid & upper classes, obviously things have been crap for everyone else for quite a while, which spawns credulence in whatever conspiracy theory floats your boat.
