Trump has a way with everything he touches doesn’t he?

For example, the master of “the art of the deal” has a solution for occasional, minor infractions by a handful of protestors among the millions nationwide: send in Stalinist secret police, teargas Moms, break heads randomly. This is called, in the mob circles that Trump moved in for much of his “business” career (stifling laughter at that) “negotiating.”

Such subtlety. Way to win hearts and minds, Donnie!

As a parent I will just never forget how US public schools were such a low priority for a US President.
The Trump Administration didn’t even mention the schools +/- 50 millions kids attend until July.
It’s breathtaking, the lack of interest and effort. Much, much worse than I would have predicted and I didn’t vote for Trump and don’t support him.
Public school students and families simply don’t exist for these folks. We’re invisible.
When they finally got around to noticing every public in the country was closed? They held a photo op where they harangued and bashed public schools and then…nothing.

We’re going to get through this, school by school, but I personally will never forget that this entire administration essentially didn’t show up for work for 6 months and we did what we did without them.

You have to ask why we employ them at all.

It’s pretty clear that IQ45 has decided that there is no way that he can expand his base. He’s gone too far in various idiotic directions to have any hope of that. His only hope is to suppress the vote of the opposition and to mobilize his base. Red meat for the Trumpanzees.

Doubling down on stupidity and vileness has worked for Trump again and again. Called out on the lie? Repeat it more forcefully. Attacked for caging children? Start separating them from their parents.

The Trumpanzees will love it, and the Fox News Cheerleading squad will squeal with delight. Two, four, six, eight. Michigan we’ll liberate. (OK. Sorry if that has you picturing Hannity and Carlson in short skirts, with pom pons. Once this image occurs to you, it’s difficult to eradicate.)

News flash, Donnie: it works until it doesn’t.

But this is the same guy who, in conversation with the fellow whom he refers to as “the Prince of Whales,” said that climate change is “just weather, the one who claimed that windmills cause cancer, who thought that stealth planes were actually invisible, that we could send astronauts to the sun, and that injecting disinfectant might be a great idea.   Apparently, the right wing disinformation circuit is telling the mentally- lazy ditto heads that the reason Americans are prohibited from entry into other countries is not because of rampant Covid but, it is because protesters make U.S. citizens as a whole appear too violent to allow to travel.     You will be interested to know, Greg, that I heard today from a friend who is a psychologist and has administered all three forms of the cognitive assessment that Trump took. None of them has that list (person, woman, man, camera, tv) on it. So, he didn’t remember this very simple and short list, which suggests at least mild cognitive impairment.

I suppose there’s something to be said for taking all the help you can get, but please don’t mistake the Lincoln Project for friends of progressives. Their goals are not your goals, other than removing Trump from office. When they tell you they are “pro-life” and “pro-gun”, believe them. They’re also pro-war and highly militaristic, and Trump trying to draw down troops in Afghanistan is one of their main motives for their attacks on him. Don’t sell your souls to them. The enemy of your enemy is not necessarily your friend.

Given a choice between democrats aligning themselves with the reprehensible Liz Cheney and those like Tulsi Gabbard who align themselves with the even more reprehensible Matt Gaetz, I have to say it’s a toss up. But I respect the position of those who agree with Gaetz and put more trust in Trump. I have absolutely no trust in Gaetz and Trump, especially given that Trump has been given license by his right wing enablers to conduct all conversations with Putin in secret.
  
  At any rate, the fact that Trump is “trying” to conduct the foreign policy Putin wants with no oversight is far less concerning that what Trump has actually done! For real!
  
  Trump didn’t “try” to send unidentified military to violently engage with peaceful protesters in Portland. He did it. The reprehensible Gaetz 100% approves. Not sure about the reprehensible Cheney.
  
  Trump didn’t just “try” to appoint right wing justices and judges so far to the right that they make the ultra conservative John Roberts seem moderate – he actually did it. Matt Gaetz and Liz Cheney both approve.
  
  We can absolutely thank Trump for moving this country so far to the right that most Americans outside of the coasts who are now told that Trump and Barr should be considered just “normal” politicians just like Nancy Pelosi are now convinced that moderate progressives like Bernie Sanders and AOC are to the left of the Sandinistas. That’s after just 4 years of Trump. If Trump wins again, Americans will be convinced that Bernie and AOC are terrorists and Brett Kavanaugh is a little bit progressive.
  
  What is important is not only what Trump is supposedly “trying” to do that just happens to directly align with what Putin wants. It is what Trump has already done, over and over again.

I think others have commented the same. I am glad these Republicans are just as repulsed by this being as we are and I am glad they are spending their money to get him out of office. But do not kid yourselves. They have an agenda, and it is not one most of us would like to see. I do not trust them. If the monster is defeated in November, there is much work to do. The Lincoln Project Republicans want their party back to continue to make the wealthy wealthier, take away women’s rights, privatize everything…but with a leader who can be less offensive.

  Once upon a time, there was a Republican Party that was sane and believed in such things as a bipartisan foreign policy, support for community public schools, and the importance of character and personal responsibility. Think Eisenhower. That party was kidnapped and locked in a dungeon by Trump, who believes in nothing but himself. The Lincoln Project wants to revive that party and free it from Trumpism. I applaud. By the way, under Eisenhower, the marginal tax rate for the highest incomes was 91%.

We just learned that he told Woody Johnson, the billionaire sports team owner who is our Ambassador to the UK, to press the British government to move the prestigious British Open to Trump’s golf resort in Scotland.     Once upon a time essentially ended with Gerald Ford, fifty years ago. (Your example goes back 70-plus years.) Its remnants essentially died with Bob Michel and were completely buried with Dole/Kemp, who vainly tried to corral the evil genie they unwittingly let out of the bottle. People who call themselves Republicans today have no recollection of that time; they reject it as a time of weakness. That’s a big part of the problem. The so-called Lincoln Project hacks do not have a memory of what Republicans once stood for. They do not cite Ford, Rockefeller, Dirksen. Their patron saints are Goldwater (who rejected them when he was near death), Reagan, Gingrich, DeLay, McConnell. Restoring sanity to the Republican party is not the goal of the so-called Lincoln Project. Restoring their retainers from the progeny of the latter listed above is. Still waiting for any polls, any anecdotal information, any anything that demonstrates these ads that are only being seen and praised by the long since converted have changed any minds and motivated them to vote against the Idiot. My comment was above was primarily in reference to this statement, which you have argued many times: “The Lincoln Project wants to revive that party and free it from Trumpism.” The only point I was trying to make is the definition of “that party” you make is very, very far from the “that party” the so-called Lincoln Project is trying to restore. We both want the Idiot out and some sanity restored. I just believe getting out the vote is THE essential task. We disagree whether this effort aids in that goal. I will never forget John McCain on two fronts: the response he gave to an Obama hater at a McCain rally (what a vast difference from a WHit rally), who accused OB of being some kind of “Muslim terrorist,” & McCain replied (paraphrased, because…unlike “stabile genius” whit. memory at times doesn’t serve me well), “No, ma’am,no ma’am… Obama is a decent, American man.” &–even more importantly, his appearance at the vote on the ACA (to kill it), even as he was terminally ill, stepping up to the plate with a literal
thumbs down.
And, of course, his outspoken disdain for WHit…his final, emphatic act in barring WHit from his funeral.
