While other nations such as Spain and Italy have seen an overall decline in new cases of COVID, the US is reporting a new high in the number of those infected. Other nations have followed the advice of public health officials. The US has not.
Mike Pence looked for good news in the rising number of COVID cases in the south and west. The spike is only happening in certain counties, he said, and it’s mostly among younger people who have less risk of death.
Pence did not wear a mask at the press briefing of the coronavirus task force.
The Trump administration on Friday claimed “remarkable progress” in fighting the coronavirus pandemic, despite a surge of cases in the South and West and as several Republican governors allied with President Trump are under pressure to impose stricter public health restrictions to gain control of outbreaks in their states.
Vice President Pence held the first public briefing of the coronavirus task force in nearly two months and sought to deliver an upbeat message that was at odds with warnings from public health experts. The vice president dodged the question of whether people should wear masks in public, as his own administration recommends, and said campaign rallies that pack people together, in violation of public health guidance, will continue.
Pence offered no new strategies to combat the rapidly spreading virus and minimized record daily case counts in several states as “outbreaks in specific counties….”
While Pence acknowledged the rising numbers of cases in the South and the West, he sought to play down the threat while heaping praise on Trump for how he has handled the pandemic. The vice president argued that many of the new cases are being found in younger Americans, who are at less risk of developing deadly complications from the virus than older Americans are. He also argued that states have told him they have enough medical equipment to deal with the surge in infections and repeated the misleading claim that more testing is the main reason for the rising numbers of cases.
Pence rejected the idea that campaign rallies should be curtailed during the pandemic, arguing that the events are constitutionally protected free speech, and he defended two events Trump held in the past week over objections from local officials or the advice of his own public health advisers.
“Well, the freedom of speech, the right to peaceably assemble, is enshrined in the Constitution of the United States, and we have an election coming up this fall,” Pence said, adding that people who attend such events are offered screenings and health advice.

It must be hard for lapdog Pence to come up with reasoning that Trump is doing a magnificent job in handling COVID-19.
I want Pence, or Trump, to explain why the European Union isn’t letting Americans or Russians come into their countries because of our not controlling the virus. Trump’s explanation will involve calling our former allies some nasty names because they aren’t recognizing the fantastic job he has done.
Costa Rica is planning to open up on July 1 to countries that have done a good job of containing the virus. I bet the U.S. isn’t one of them.
I seriously doubt that any country will admit Americans. Why should they.
Freedom of speech to infect/kill others is not in the Constitution. Trump is a rotten leader and Pence isn’t any better. The whole goon of GOP’ers in Congress had a chance to get rid of Trump and failed. Now we all suffer.

Trump hates these suffering people. Here is a small bit of good news.
Citing the unrelenting spread of the coronavirus, a federal judge has ordered that all children currently held in ICE custody for more than 20 days must be released by July 17.
Judge Dolly Gee of California issued the scathing order Friday afternoon saying the Trump administration had failed to provide even the most basic health protections for children and their families amid the pandemic…
Holly Cooper, co-director of the University of California, Davis Immigration Law Clinic and one of the lawyers representing Flores agreement class members, is elated by the latest ruling.
She says Gee’s decision could lead to the long-awaited the release of entire families. Some of whom have been living in which she called “horrific conditions” for more than a year.
Until now, ICE has been reluctant to release children held in family detention centers “because in order to do it in a humane way, they have to release the child with a parent,” Cooper said.
Instead, the Trump administration has offered families a binary choice: stay together in detention or allow the children to be transferred to a sponsor or family member somewhere in the U.S.

Because, of course, we all saw how BLM protesters were deprived of their rights of free speech and assembly when they wore masks. Now try to drive around without a seatbelt on, bypass airport security to get on a flight, or urinate or defecate in public spaces and see how far Idiot, Jr.’s reasoning gets you. Venal stupidity is the worst kind of stupidity.

This upstanding man of G-d misled his people about the numbers in at least two ways, once by sophistry, once by lying. VP Tuppence repeated the projection that without doing anything, the U.S. would have had between 1.5 million and 2 million fatalities. The sophistry: As has the Public Health Scourge in Chief, he reported this range accurately, no doubt expecting that most of us wouldn’t notice the absurdity of making a comparison to the impossibility of allowing a plague to run through the country completely unaddressed. The lying: Tuppence stated, “[W]e said we believed we could reduce fatalities to 150,000 to 200,000.” Well, yeah, I guess so, Mikey, since 150,000 to 200,000 is part of the range 100,000 to 250,000, which is whatcha said before the death toll blew past that pesky little 100K and you figured you’d better move the goal post.

Trump and Pence should prove COVID-19 is over tested. Stop testing anyone who wants to meet with Trump.
Trump and Pence should start shaking hands with all their loyal followers. [They are bold speaking chickens.]

I just happened to have the TV on when Pence opened mouth to ramble about COVID-9 and the fantastic job Trump and his administration are doing to end the pandemic. Before he Pence finished I almost vomited. I still can believe a person (can’t call him a man) who is supposed be such a stalwart Christian can stand up, tell bold faced lies, and support another person who has no positive ethics or morales. Just does not make sense.

They are the textbook definition of bold-faced liars.
Trump is betting on winning by ignoring the pandemic. Now that it’s spreading in red states, we will see how that works out for him.

Axios:
Mask wars have broken out.
During several House Judiciary Committee hearings, Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) insisted members wear masks, only to be ignored by Republican colleagues.
Eventually, Nadler said he would no longer recognize those who do not wear one.

There are several countries that are seeing very positive results from the actions taken by their governmental leaders and the population in general. I do not remember the exact words that Pence used but he was saying a country in Africa is not COVID-19 free and said this was because of the help that TRUMP sent to that country. More of Pence/Trump’s lies
We have family that lives in Italy. A country hard hit by COVID-19. The Italian leadership shut down the country and in the end are being successful to controlling/overcoming the virus. People in Italy are now free to travel, cross over into other countries. Our family did a weekend visit to Slovenia and today our granddaughter did a day trip with friend to Venice. All this because the government of Italian and the Italian people did the right things to combat virus.
But not in this country. Our government cannot gets its act together and far too many American citizens are not willing to give up some freedoms for a short time to save the lives of others. Incompetent leadership. Selfish people.

Ahh. Our ‘GREAT LEADER’ won’t wear a mask. How is he going to spin the ever increasing number of infections? Our ‘fabulously wonderful’ testing ability ruse will only go so far.
It’s hard to imagine someone more incompetent than Trump. Nothing is being done to bring these numbers down. Of course, this comes from ‘fake news’ WaPo.
