This is a wonderful song and dance performed by the cast of HAMILTON in 2016. There is a bonus: Lin-Manuel Miranda performing “Alexander Hamilton” at the Obama White House in 2015.
It’s perfect for the moment.

“Given how Democrats, in particular, embraced the show and Hamilton himself as a paragon of social justice, you would think that he had fought to enlarge the democratic rights of all Americans. But Alexander Hamilton simply didn’t believe in democracy, which he labeled an American “disease.” He fought—with military force—any model of organizing the American political economy that might promote egalitarian politics. He was an authoritarian, and proud of it.”

Great article, thanks! I hope people here take the time to read it.
Charter schools in NYC love this musical.
Obama LOVED this musical and has used Hamilton’s’ biography to further a neo-liberal agenda. Hamilton had grit and resilience when it came to pursing his education. I guess our children should have the same.
In reality, it’s very clear that the host advocates, like all of us, for real funding, and not the farce we have now known as the DOE and Betsy DeVile.
But this musical sends the wrong message, IMHO. It was, to be objective, very brilliantly produced, written, and choreographed. It was a fresh, bold, and innovative endeavor to teach history. It was, alas, a slanted view in even more slanted times. Stay away from it. Not worth seeing.
It’s a wonderful musical. If you have not seen it, I urge you to do so. It’s startling and delightful to see the Founding Fathers portrayed by Black and Hispanic actors. Lin-Manuel Miranda relied on the meticulous research of historian Ron Chernow, who wrote the definitive biography of Hamilton. When Broadway comes back, and it will, don’t miss “Hamilton.”
Diane, you and I: the new Siskel and Ebert? LOL. I’ve seen it.
It’s a great show. I have met teens who memorized the lyrics.
Diane – did you even read the link that Richard posted above? Chernow’s biography is most definitely not the “definitive” one. It’s pure hagiography. Hamilton was a monster who bred future monsters like Alan Greenspan and all of the “Chicago School” boys.
Dienne,
Have you seen “Hamilton”? It’s not a history class. It is a fabulous show with a mostly Black and Hispanic cast playing the Founding generation.
Thank you so much for this!
“whoever posted this has great taste.” My daughter.
