CNN reports that former Governor Deval Patrick of Massachusetts will throw his hat in the ring.
After leaving government, Patrick entered the private sector and was employed by Bain Capital, the same firm where Mitt Romney made his fortune.
Patrick’s entry, like potential candidate Bloomberg, will weaken Joe Biden, the current front-runner in most states.
Thanks for the Information. I tried to open the link but it took me to Apple News and some mention that SIRI would tailor news for me. No, no me. Not willingly. We do not need a Bain-connected candidate.
Here’s a better link:

SIRI: the spy in your home. I love it when I open Microsoft News, & it says “My News.”
Like I can’t read all the news…or any news I s@%! well please!
Sure, why not? Bain capital, US government, what’s the dif?
yup
Could also hurt Warren and Sanders in New Hampshire. Seems more likely that he’ll sputter out and have a negligible impact unless he can raise a boatload of money asap. (A problem Bloomberg doesn’t have.)
Massachusetts voters who like Sanders or Warren aren’t suddenly going to embrace the corporate Democrat Patrick, who is “sacrificing” his lucrative job at Bain to run. Maybe the ones who would have voted for Bloomberg now can vote for Patrick. I’m guessing that is a pretty small number and they’ll have to fight Biden and Buttigeig for those votes.
Patrick could split the Black voters in swing states like VA & SC where black voters are key to Dem wins. Patrick could drain support for the 2 progressive candidates & could throw the Democratic convention into a brokered convention.
It does seem like the DNC is looking for anyone who can thwart Sanders & Warren.
Deval Patrick hurts centrist candidates most and inadvertently strengthens Sanders and Warren.
Third Way’s, Tim Ryan (corporate Dem. Rep. from Ohio), endorsed Biden, in an unsurprising announcement.
Even the Third Way guy won’t endorse Bloomberg! Bloomberg has such a small base of Wall Street finance guys.
Just what we need in the White House
a corporate raider centrist who will open the doors to wall street and big pharma
Oh yeah the guy who dumped MA’s excellent state standards for Common Core, just in time to garner $250million in RTTT funds (& after which, scores declined). [Pioneer Inst says MA’s 2017 CCSS tweak is worse in Eng, still mediocre in Math, & both inferior to their pre-CCSS stds.]
Just what Dems need in the batting ofrder, another milktoast neoliberal. Not.
This just in: Rep. Jim Jordan hailed by Republicans for full-throated defense of toilet bowl scum.
Seems appropriate that the Sg. Schultz of the Ohio State Wrestling Program (“I saw nothing, even if dozens of other coaches have already testified that it happened”) would be the one defending Donald Trump.
Really, how much difference is there between the Ohio State doctor who blatantly abused students while Jim Jordan insists he saw only the most upright and proper behavior and Donald Trump, who blatantly abused his office as President while Jim Jordan insists he saw only the most upright and proper behavior.
Remember TWENTY-TWO former Ohio State coaches told investigators they were aware of the now documented complaints and rumors about Dr. Strauss.
But Jim Jordan insists he saw nothing, he heard nothing. Someone should ask Jim Jordan if he was just as certain that Dr. Strauss only acted properly as he is certain that Donald Trump only acted properly.
Who do you believe, the guy who insists that he was absolutely certain that Dr. Strauss always acted properly or Ambassador Taylor, the decorated West Point graduate who served honorable for decades?
I guess Trump was really desperate when the best guy he could find to swear to his integrity was the very same guy who insisted he ALSO believed that Dr. Strauss had done absolutely nothing improper or inappropriate.
Apparently, not noticing the disgusting things terrible people do when everyone else is talking about them is Jim Jordan’s special talent.
Yup.
He also has a special talent for inserting faux analyses of fictional facts, via rapid jawboning, into every question and rejoinder when interviewing witnesses…
I really wish the witnesses would start responding to his faux analyses and fictional facts with “Maybe you didn’t notice what Trump was doing just like you didn’t notice what Dr. Strauss was doing to students at Ohio State. Remember that your blindness to Dr. Strauss’ horrible acts caused so much harm to so many students. Perhaps you should think about whether your blindness to President Trump’s acts are going to cause even more harm to this country. Because in a decade when all that you claim that “didn’t see” is revealed, it will be too late for all the victims – the American people.”
A few observations about the first day of televised hearings and the Deval Patrick item above:
Having watched some of the hearings with a classroom full of 21st century born and raised students, it was like a trip back in a time machine to TV land of 1973 -or earlier.
I felt for the two witnesses. They were trying to speak in complete sentences and think logically and act honorably. They were not meme-based.
The Republicans did the job as defense attorneys -because that’s what it’s coming down to. (I do NOT like it but that’s the fact.) Of course, a good defense lawyer just has to poke enough Swiss cheese-like holes into the prosecutor’s argument to ‘get er done’. Obfuscation, red herrings, distractions, distortions, blah, blah, blah….it was all there. They’re not trying to change my mind….nor probably most the readers of this blog. Castor and Co. want to shore up the Trump base and give those G.O.P. Senators reasons to vote not to convict -despite whatever considerable damage might be done to our Republic along the way.
Seriously: Clinton was impeached about his affair and the resulting lies etc.. and the G.O.P. wants to give Trump a get out of jail free card for THIS Constitution bending and breaking crap? Shameless! But, of course, we knew that all along. They are so often shameless.
About Deval Patrick. Yeah…. It’s like a national thought experiment that’s been going on. I sometimes find myself driving to work in the predawn gloom fully engaged in it. Who would be the perfect Democratic candidate to go up against Trump? (Not he.)
Meanwhile, it’s that time of the year when the deer are really jumping across the roads here Upstate I should be paying a lot more attention to driving instead of thinking about politics, ha, ha. Gotta go. Have a GOOD day.
Seeing “democrats” scramble to preserve billionaires’ absurd control of Congress and tax law is disquieting. What kind of Democrat fights to increase gross inequality? The neolib belief in helping others while generating ever-expanding profits is chimerical fantasy.
Yes, which is why it is great that of the 18 candidates running in the Democratic primary, the majority are not insisting that billionaires be able to keep more of their money.
I don’t judge the Democrats on what Republicans like Bloomberg or latecomer and billionaire favorites like Deval Patrick want.
That would be as if I thought that William Weld represented today’s Republicans just because he was in the Republican primary. How stupid would I be to think that Weld represents the Republican party just because he happens to be running in the primary.
The reason Weld is so hated and despised is because the Republican Party values racism, xenophobia and hate, along with helping billionaires get much richer while the poor and middle class rot. You would be trying to deceive voters if you told them that William Weld reflects the values of the Republican Party.
Just like it would deceive voters to believe that a right wing pro-billionaire Democrat reflects the values of the Democratic Party.
These billionaires and billionaire-enablers don’t represent Democrats any more than William Weld represents Republicans. Which is why Republicans will reject Weld’s candidacy just like Democrats will reject Bloomberg’s and Patrick’s.
Deval Patrick went from living in the Robert Taylor Homes in Chicago, as a child, to Harvard College, the Harvard Law, then being Governor of Massachusetts. An extraordinary record. Yes, I’m not happy with his past actions on education, but he would certainly be an improvement on the current occupant of the Offal Office.
The Awful Office . . .
An improvement over the current office holder is a low bar. As far as winning the primary, who knows, but he will certainly muddy the field & possibly lead to a brokered convention.
Patrick is a Wall Street-friendly Democrat opposing Medicare-for-All and fundamental change -Bain Capital is all that needs to be said.
Although never charged with a crime, he was once on the board of ACC Capital Holdings (the parent company of Ameriquest and Argent Mortgage, predatory lenders and big players in the subprime mortgage game).
The point of Patrick entering the race is to derail Warren & Sanders. It’s not to win.
