Since that infamous event on November 8, 2016, when the U.S. government was taken over by the loony and cruel Rightwing, I have said that two things would help us through the next four years: Art and humor. They would enable us to see the world as it is and as it should be and to dream of a better future.
No one has been a more reliable source of humor than Randy Rainbow.

Most of the bios I have read for Randy say that he was born in Florida? I have no idea if his parents were/are Canadian. One bio said that his father, who was in show business, changed their name from Ribner to Rainbow. I cannot vouch for the accuracy of these various websites.

What gets me through these times is not just humor and art but, and even more so, the revival of progressivism, #Red4Ed teachers strikes, Bernie, and everything else that knocks the billionaires who’ve been ruining life on earth for decades. No dissing of Randy Rainbow here, but no one roasts billionaires such as Bill Gates like SDP. My vote is SDP.
SDP, Poet Laureate of the Resistance, is VERY talented. How wonderful when he shows up in Diane’s living room with one of his verses!
What is this insane need we have to compare?! Randy is Randy and SDP is SDP. I enjoy both of them and don’t need to decide which is “better.” It’s like choosing a favorite author and declaring them “more betterer” than any other author of any genre.
Sorry for the rant. I know humans make many weighty decisions by comparing. Thankfully, I don’t have to choose a favorite in this instance. I feel like it is comparing apples and oranges, and even if they were both apples, what do I gain by declaring one better than the other?

Randy helps frustrated America deal with the current administration. He is clever, original and a talented performer. He has even captured the attention Stephen Sondhiem! I am so glad someone other than the “insane clown posse” in the White House is making money from our current absurdity.
Randy Rainbow is breathtakingly talented. His comic timing is impeccable, his acting superb. He has a beautiful singing voice. He’s extraordinarily witty. He has a conscience. He has style. He’s charming. He’s smart. He’s a great editor. Would love, love, love to see him in a Broadway show. It’s going to be awesome to see how his career develops.
Before the 2016 election, I said the exact same thing. To get through these troubling times, we need a good dose of humor. To bring down the bully regime, we need to laser-focus on unrelenting rudicule of the buffoonery of this president and his administration. Keep plugging away!

Terry Gross interviewed Randy Rainbow on Fresh Air recently. You can find the interview on the Fresh Air podcast and I recommend it. He says that trump reminds him of his father, which is interesting.
