Andy Spears explains how the Tennessee Legislature came to pass vouchers, after rejecting them multiple times.
There was a popular new governor promoting an unpopular idea. And there was money. DeVos money. Dark Money. Lots of it. And aides to Governor Bill Lee who had previously worked for DeVos’s American Federation for Children (and Vouchers).
Now there’s an FBI investigation of the deal that went down to get this bill passed.
Good grief, if the FBI investigates every rigged vote for vouchers, bypassing voters, they will have no time to investigate major crimes.
“Then, Casada made the unprecedented move of holding the vote open for more than thirty minutes while he conducted “conferences” with members of his caucus who had been recorded as voting against the measure. Finally, Knox County’s Jason Zachary switched his vote and the bill passed, 50-48. Zachary indicated he’d been assured Knox County would be taken out of the final bill.”
It is just amazing that they only got it passed by exempting his county. Whatever happens with the FBI investigation Zachary should lose his job. He won’t even apply this to his own county! It’s ok for other people but not his constituents? Wow.
Do they never stop? NO!

Actually, those “rigged vote for vouchers” are major crimes.
Think about it, what can be more major than stealing democracy?
I agree, Duane. This seemingly small politicians’ play in the TN legislation will affect all public school kids in TN. It’ll cost more than a $100 million a year. Should the FBI give higher priority to bankrobbers who steal maybe a few million?
