The NewSchools Venture Fund will hold its annual meeting in Oakland on May 8. This is appropriate because Oakland has been one of the cities targeted by the billionaires who support NSVF, with the goal of eradicating public schools. As you will read, a significant number of public schools have been turned into charters, draining $57 million from public schools, which must cut services and programs to satisfy the greed of the billionaires. Make no mistake: their goal is privatization and they don’t care how much suffering they cause to public school students to get what they want. The public schools and their students are collateral damage.

My CA peeps – be on the lookout. CCSA is apparently going to County Boards of Education in CA to get them to vote to go on record as OPPOSING AB 1505. AB 1505 is supported by the California Teachers Association and NAACP and would allow local districts to disapprove charters based on finances and overcrowding (they can’t consider these factors now) and would eliminate appeals to the CA State Board, which s a rubber stamp. I am in Contra Costa County and our County Board put one of these on agenda for May 1 that looks exactly like it was written by a charter lobbyist (with all the references to “high quality” charter schools and how it is “undemocratic” and a denial of “due process” to not allow them to appeal to the State Board). Watch those County Board of Education agendas! Thx.
