Mercedes Schneider tracked down the tax filings of the “charity” at the heart of the college admissions scam.
You will be interested to learn that the cover for the heist was a nonprofit dedicated to helping the “underpriviled.”
Well, you can’t open a charity for the “privileged,” now, can you?
You can do it but you have to “fix” your description and accounting schemes to fit a “public purpose” that is OK with the IRS. Ask Trump if you can get away with commissioning a self-portrait for a casino.
Call me paranoid, but, being a Chicago suburbanite familiar w/Niles Twp. high schools (& an alum), wondering if the mastermind, Singer, had any dealings w/Gary Solomon, the guy behind the CPS/Barbara Byrd Bennett scam (forget the name of his co.)? He, too, is from Niles Twp. H.S.
Not to sully Niles Twp. H.S.–the rest of us are fine, upstanding folks!! (In fact, the Chicago news yesterday interviewed 2 current Niles West students: they were pretty shocked…)
The 1% sincerely believes they’re above the law and in many instances get by with it. We the 99% have to wake up and make sure we’re vigilant and refuse to allow this to continue!
“In laundering their dirty money through a nonprofit, Huffman and others were also able to receive a tax write-off for payments related to their scams. Let that sink in.”
While cheating to gain college admissions for their children, these wealthy individuals were also able to get a tax deduction for doing so. Our country has one set of rules for the wealthy, another for working people and a third for poor minorities. We got to do better!
When an organization like College Board which has a billion dollar revenue stream and pays it’s execs million dollar salary/bonus packages is considered non-profit, you know the non-profit category is a complete sham.
Compared to the College Board, the latest college admissions scandal is a drop in the bucket.
Uh, yes you can work in a non-profit for the underprivileged and walk out with billions in profits: The White House.
It’s the only reason he hasn’t given the Statue of Liberty back to France. Illusion of a president savior who is there for everyone – even signs the book with the 10 Commandments.
His loyalists can say their policies and all the business he does (in Mara Lago, Russia, Saudi Arabia) benefits even underprivileged Americans here because he is the president.
