A report from the Boston Globe daily news summary:
While you were sleeping: At his El Paso rally, after Trump whipped up the crowd against journalists once again by calling them “dishonest” and “fake news,” one of his supporters physically attacked journalists in the press area, violently shoving several people, especially a BBC cameraman who almost fell off the raised platform and whose camera the attacker tried to smash while shouting “F— the media.” He was restrained by other reporters until security took him out of the arena. And then Trump had the gall to ask the cameraman if he was all right.
Please don’t be surprised; physical attacks on journalists are inevitable in the wake of Trump’s outrageous and dangerous verbal attacks on the media as “enemies of the people.” Trump supporters routinely spit on, swear at, and make obscene gestures to reporters at Trump rallies. The publisher of The New York Times has made two appeals to Trump in person to stop the destructive language, to no avail. It’s inevitable that some of Trump’s mindless minions will believe him and act accordingly.
As for the rest of the taxpayer-funded campaign rally, Trump lied his waythrough his speech once again. He said the arena where he spoke held 8,000 people (it holds 6,500) and that the local fire department had allowed 10,000 people inside (it didn’t, especially since that would be unlawful and pretty stupid). He repeated his falsehood that crime in El Paso had plunged the minute a wall was built on the border (it didn’t; it had been low for many years), that big sections of his wall were already being built (existing fencing is being shored up), that a wall will stop drugs from “pouring” over the border (the vast majority of illegal drugs are smuggled in vehicles at ports of entry), and that a wall will stop MS-13 gang members (most MS-13 members who are arrested are US citizens).
My favorite was his claim that Democrats want to get rid of cows. I got nothin’ here.
Just so you know, he’s quite annoyed that fact checkers keep publishing the truth, so he now has labeled them as “fake news” as well. They had better start watching their back, too.

cows= methane gas from their large quantities of pooh=bad for the environment. But of course, the Dems are trying to stop the leader of the free world from ordering his McDonald’s Big Macs (SMH!!!).

The Democrats want a elimination of pollution and greenhouse gas emissions in agriculture.
Trump : agriculture =cows which have gas therefore obviously Democrats want to eliminate cows!

That claim stems from a faulty analysis published in 2006. The author of the study acknowledged the error publicly when drawn to his attention by a 2010 paper. Details are here: https://theconversation.com/yes-eating-meat-affects-the-environment-but-cows-are-not-killing-the-climate-94968

This should not be a surprise. Trump is the worst of the worst. He is a malignant narcissist and psychopath. He has no conscience. He is a walking tub of greedy, lying lard.
I think that Trump’s hardcore hate-filled supporters BETTER start hiding in the shadows, because “watching their own backs” won’t be enough to protect them once the rest of us have had enough of this fascist BS.
If Mueller’s investigation doesn’t put a stop to this Trumpish insanity, then the people that can’t stand Trump (and we outnumber Trumpists at least two to one if not more) and his deplorable followers will, and it will not be pretty.
And, after all the smoke clears and the shooting is over, the United States might just be a better place to live without the Trumpists.

The biggest loser of them all is Don Jr. Wait, no, I’m wrong. He is the second biggest loser right behind Don Sr. who is clearly the biggest loser of them all in more ways than one measurement.
So, does the old saying that it takes one to know one apply here? We already know Don Sr and Don Jr are total losers (even when they win because of their bullying, lies and court cases to bankrupt anyone that dares to stand up to them). Does that mean because the Dons are losers is so many ways that teachers are losers too?

Here’s hoping that the Democrats don’t shoot themselves in their feet before they shove their feet into their mouths. Look at the Democrats in Virginia: it’s a circular firing squad on the deck of the Titanic seconds before it is hit by an asteroid. We must vote out Trump and/or Pence in 2020 and if it should be Cory Booker, then I’ll vote for CB over DT any day. A peaceful transfer of power beats bloodshed and violence, it can be done. No one wants violence and bloodshed, it will just make things much worse and could even embolden Trump and the GOP.

Really, Northam is part of a self-destructive firing squad? I suggest you give it more thought.
The perception that causes anyone to think the top three Democrats in Virginia are destroying each other has been mostly created by the right-wing fake news media and mostly white, alleged racist voters.
The state polls show overwhelming support for Northam from the Black community. If anyone should decide if Northam should resign, it should be them.
“Polls show Virginians are divided on Ralph Northam. The jury’s still out on Justin Fairfax.
A majority of black Virginians, meanwhile, still back the governor despite his blackface scandal.” …
“Roughly 58 percent of African Americans polled said Northam should remain in office, compared to 46 percent of whites who said the same.”
https://www.vox.com/2019/2/10/18219220/virginia-northam-fairfax-polls-resignation
Now, how many of those whites that want to see Northam gone are registered Republicans and Trumpists?

I reside in Virginia. I did not vote for Northam. I do NOT support his resignation nor removal. He was duly elected by the majority of the voters. He should continue to do the job he was elected to do.
Fair is fair.
As to the Lt. Gov, that is another matter. He is accused of sexual misconduct, and other serious legal charges. He deserves the presumption of innocence, until proven guilty in court.
He too, was duly elected. Until found guilty, he should do the job he was elected to do.

Why Trump’s lie about El Paso, Texas, is so important.
02/11/19 04:40 PM—UPDATED 02/12/19 01:45 PM
By Steve Benen
Trump: “The border city of El Paso, Texas used to have extremely high rates of violent crime – one of the highest in the entire country, and considered one of our nation’s most dangerous cities,” the president argued in his State of the Union address. “Now, immediately upon its building, with a powerful barrier in place, El Paso is one of the safest cities in our country. Simply put: Walls work, and walls save lives.”…
Local officials approved a resolution earlier today, explaining that they are “disillusioned by President Trump’s lies regarding the border and our community.” Their resolution added, “Though it is difficult to welcome him to El Paso while he continues to proliferate such untruths, we do welcome him to meet with local officials to become properly informed about our great and safe region.”
But even putting all of these relevant details aside, it’s also important to appreciate the fact that Trump and his White House team had months to come up with a good example – anywhere in the United States – that would bolster his talking points.

Border Report: The U.S. Is Sending Asylum-Seekers Back to Uncertainty in Mexico
The Trump administration’s new policy of returning asylum-seekers to Mexico while they await court hearings has renewed questions about safety and legal representation. In the meantime, discussions over border security are breaking down in Washington D.C.
…“We came to live in the United States, not Mexico,” one asylum-seeker who was turned back told PRI. “They are playing with our lives.”
There have also been longstanding concerns about migrants’ safety in Tijuana, one of the world’s deadliest cities. Tijuana experienced a record number of reported homicides — more than 2,500 — in 2018. In December, two Honduran teens were brutally executed.
Federal officials in the United States last week advised Customs and Border Protection personnel that if migrants slated for return say they are afraid to be in Mexico, they could qualify for an exemption to the new policy. Unaccompanied minors are also supposed to be exempt, though there have also long been reports that Mexican authorities make it difficult for unaccompanied minors to get through a port of entry.
On the San Diego side, immigration attorneys are trying to figure out how they might be able to provide counsel for asylum-seekers forced to wait in Mexico. It’s also unclear how this will work in San Diego’s immigration courts…

The actual number of asylum-seekers doesn’t qualify as a crisis. The total number of undocumented immigrants in US is estimated at 11.7million [3.6% of US pop]. About the same as it’s been since mid-’80’s. The recent spike in asylum-seekers puts the ones who pass low-bar initial screening at about 100k/yr. Stats show about 50% will get approved. Of the other 50k/yr, some will hang w/the process & get work visas while waiting, others will move on & work illegally. Regardless: 50k/yr is an increase of 0.4% to the total # of the undocumented. Modest border-barrier enhancement where needed is uncontroversial. Beefing up the court systems involved in the review process seems an obvious measure. The hullabaloo over “caravans” and “illegal immigrants” is designed to get the public pointing fingers anywhere but at lack of decent wkg/mdl-class job opportunities vs vast corporate wealth unshared with public.

My first vision was of him being dropped in a sealed tank full of this water with no room for air. His head is pushed under so they can close the hatch that only opens from the outside. The only way he can survive is if he is a fish like an Electric Eel, one of the most dangerous in the world.
And if the Orange Rank Tank is an electric eel, he can’t be president because the US Constitution does not allow a fish to be a president. The electric eel, by the way, is one of the most sluggish (lazy) creatures that prefer slow-moving fresh water.
I wonder how Slippery Electric Donald Trump is going to do in Flint’s water since it is so toxic and not fresh.

UK Foreign Secretary Rips Trump Backer’s Attack On BBC Cameraman, Ties It To Deadly Assaults
…Last year Trump praised Rep. Greg Gianforte (R-Mont.), who body-slammed a Guardian reporter after the journalist asked Gianforte a question about health care on the eve of his election victory. “Any guy who can do a body slam, he is my type,” Trump said in a speech at a Gianforte re-election rally last fall, triggering outraged criticism. “He’s a great guy, a tough cookie,” Trump added.
At his own campaign rally in 2016, Trump encouraged supporters to attack protesters. “If you see somebody getting ready to throw a tomato, knock the crap out of them, would you?” he said. “Just knock the hell … I promise you I will pay for the legal fees.”
Gary O’Donoghue, the Washington correspondent for the British public service broadcaster, called the attack on Skeans “incredibly violent.” He complained that the “goading of the crowds against the media” is “a constant feature” of Trump’s rallies…

Here are some blowhard comments posted from the WH. Now Trump is reviving the middle class, America’s manufacturers are currently rebounding and he is more than capable of doing conventional things well. He gave an excellent SOTU that won high praise. [Whoever wrote this doesn’t read Diane Ravitch’s blog.] PS. I praise Jimmy Carter as a good person who worked to better humanity and vilify Ronald RayGun.
………………………
USA Today ran a surprising story on Tuesday headlined ‘Can the middle-class revival under Trump last?’ It’s surprising — shocking really — because it might just be the first time a major news outlet has admitted that there has been a middle-class revival under Trump,” the Investor’s Business Daily editorial board writes. “It’s a safe bet that had a Democrat been in the White House over the past two years things would be different.”
“U.S. manufacturing is once again in the news. New data shows America’s factories adding 261,000 jobs from January 2018 to January 2019. In the State of the Union, President Trump emphasized the urgency of confronting predatory trade from countries like China,” Michael Stumo writes in The Hill. “There’s no doubt that America’s manufacturers are currently rebounding. The tariffs that President Trump imposed a year ago on steel, aluminum, solar panels and washing machines have already created more than 11,000 new jobs.”
“The Donald Trump White House is more than capable of doing conventional things well. Last week’s State of the Union saw a complex policy process synthesized into a well-delivered prime-time address that captured the president’s unique policy agenda and won high praise,” Raj Shah writes in USA Today. “But if conventional management styles alone could make or break a presidency, historians would be praising Jimmy Carter and vilifying Ronald Reagan.”

Trump blasts former FBI official McCabe after explosive interview
President Trump on Thursday mocked Andrew McCabe after the former deputy FBI director revealed he opened a probe into whether Trump obstructed justice when he fired James Comey as FBI chief in 2017 amid the Russia investigation.
In a string of morning tweets, Trump wrote that the “disgraced” McCabe “pretends to be a ‘poor little Angel’ when in fact he was a big part of the Crooked Hillary Scandal & the Russia Hoax” and “a puppet for Leakin’ James Comey.”
The president added that an internal watchdog report that was used to justify McCabe’s ouster was “devastating.”

This is off topic but relevant for today and every day. The day I lost my daughter to gun violence | Opinion
JENNIFER GUTTENBERG
ON 2/14/19 AT 11:57 AM
February 14th. Valentine’s Day. A day of love.
Not in this town.
Exactly one year ago, Parkland, Florida became another statistic. A former student came onto a school campus and killed 17 students and injured 17 others. One of the innocent victims was my 14 year old daughter, Jaime Guttenberg…
My family is forever broken. It will never be the same. This is how I feel one year later, so there is no need to ask.
We have a gun epidemic in this country and it must stop. It is a national emergency. If this can happen in a small, upscale and safe town like Parkland, it could happen anywhere.
Nobody should endure this kind of pain. Nobody should have to miss their child this much. I hope that every legislator reads this right after sending their kids to school. Or after sending them to the movies with their friends. Or even after dropping them off at a concert. Then, maybe then, something will finally change.

Trump never lies. Trump had 35,000 and Beto had either 200-300 or 15.
…………………
Referring to the protest that former Rep. Beto O’Rourke, D-Texas, and other El Paso leaders had organized, Trump said: “A young man who’s got very little going for himself, except he’s got a great first name… He challenged us. So we have let’s, say, 35,000 people tonight. And he has 200 people, 300 people. Not too good.”
[…]
Later in the speech, Trump once again brought up the former congressman. “Well, how about Beto? Beto was defeated too, right? But he suffered a great defeat. Watch what the news does tomorrow, though, they won’t mention the disparity [in crowd size], they won’t mention the disparity tomorrow. They’ll say “Beto O’Rourke” – that’s his last name, right, O’Rourke? – “Beto O’Rourke had a wonderful rally, although about 15 people…”
We’re news people, so we’ll mention the crowd estimates, per NBC’s and others’ reporting: About 7,000 to 8,000 attended O’Rourke’s protest, while 6,500 attended Trump’s rally (that’s the capacity per the Fire Department) and several thousands more Trump supporters assembled outside the arena.
