Read about how the trustees of the Florida Virtual School responded to an auditor who was tasked with investigating its former general counsel. When she reported to the trustees, they made clear that they didn’t care what she found, interrupted her, and dismissed her findings out of hand.
This suggests that the Florida Virtual School should be investigated. It has 200,000 students across the state. How much money is it collecting from taxpayers? Where is the money going? How many students graduate? What is the quality of education delivered online? Do taxpayers care? Will Governor Ron DeSantis initiate an investigation?
Can pigs fly?

While there are a few signs that DeSantis may prove to be better than Scott with regard to criminal justice and the environment, he seems to be in favor of fake reform with the appointment of Richard Corcoran. Maybe DeSantis will respond to a great many voters demanding change from all the crooked cyber charters? Now is the time to kick up a fuss before DeSantis settles in and feels he no longer needs to listen to the people.

I knew there would be another ECOT.
I wonder how many corrupt state virtual schools there are, nationally? 15? 20?
Probably as many as there are states that are managed by ed reformers, so 20.

Newpoint cyber charter already faced a trial that sent the owner to jail for fraud and racketeering, but we need to eliminate more of them.https://www.pnj.com/story/news/2018/10/04/jury-out-fraud-trial-newpoint-charter-schools-owner-marcus-may/1524926002/

Shout out to Fordham for promoting charters. Privatized education corrupted Ohio’s state government. Ohioans couldn’t even get the Republican attorney general, now governor, to pursue charges against the biggest charter school theft.
Pay to play, the way government business is done in Republican Ohio.

It has become obvious that as long as Florida is in the hands of the totally corrupt GOP, there will be no investigation into anything that adds to the wealth of the already rich.
And the GOP is doing all that it can to make sure it doesn’t lose any of the states it totally controls.
I will not be surprised if the GOP somehow reverses the Florida vote to restore ex-felon voting rights with Amendment 4.
“The victory means more than 1-million people will regain the right to vote.”
Black people, who are disproportionately arrested and incarcerated, will benefit the most. In 2016, more than 418,000 black people out of a black voting-age population of more than 2.3 million, or 17.9 percent of potential black voters in Florida, had finished sentences but couldn’t vote due to a felony record, according to the Sentencing Project. (Again, this includes some people convicted of murders and felony sex offenses.)

Does anyone really expect the racist-right that supports Trump and the GOP to let this happen in 2020 or any election?
Those reclaimed votes could tip Florida blue.

The GOP is actively looking for a way to not restore voting rights to felons that have been released. They are looking for a loophole to set aside the will of the people.

Your information is not accurate. More white people (in numbers) have been disenfranchised as felons in Florida, but Black communities are more disproportionately impacted as the percentages are higher.

Where is your link to the data that breaks down the ratios and numbers?
When will Florida turn blue? Let’s look.
“Republican voters are older than Democratic voters, she said, with 63 percent age 50 and older.” …
“Currently the parties are about even in Florida, with 37 percent of voters registered as Democrats, 35 percent as Republicans and 28 percent not registered in a party. The share of of no party affiliation voters “is just growing and growing and growing.” Currently, 58 percent of NPA voters are younger than 50.”
https://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/politics/fl-reg-florida-midterm-election-demographic-insights-20180613-story.html
“The 2016 United States presidential election in Florida was won by Donald Trump on November 8, 2016, with a plurality of 49.0% of the popular vote that included a 1.2% winning margin over Hillary Clinton, who had 47.8% of the vote.”
And how close was the 2018 election. Rick Scott won his Senate seat with 50.1% of the vote to 49.9% for Bill Nelson. The governor’s race was even closer: 49.6% to 49.2%
Eventually the older Republicans will die off and the state will turn blue.

Two of my grandchildren have attended flvs for 8 years, they score 4 and 5 on all the state test, so the quality of education , I feel is much higher than that of my grandchildren who are in a brick and mortar classroom just test prepping everyday! My grandson graduated last yr from flvs top of class, now attending college, where he has made deans list first semester. I am trying to convince others to attend. I know what the drop out rate in our county is for brick and mortar classes as will as school grades, so I’m not real sure what you want investigated, the quality of education or the fact that more families are turing to flvs and you don’t like the funds being used for flvs

Terri, either the school is lying to you or paying you.
In every state that has online charters, they are the worst schools in the state but very profitable.
I used to get emails here from a guy saying how wonderful ECOT in Ohio was. Then I discovered he was on the payroll. ECOT isin bankruptcy now but it’s owner waspaid $1 Billion over 19 years.

Test scores do not, I repeat, “DO NOT”, define the education a child gets. One reason is because test scores can be manipulated.
Much more important are the answer to these questions.
Are your children avid reader and do they read for pleasure after selecting the books they want to read without any interference from a parent or other adult?
Are your children learning critical thinking and problem solving skills and if you say yes, how do you know?
Are your children spending too much time staring at computer screens and or TV screens? The answer has to be yes if they are attending an online charter school.
Do your children go outside and actively play with other children their own ages? Probably not if they are attending an online charter school.
Do your children have their own smart phones?
Do your children spend a lot of time playing video games?
Do your children spend a lot of time texting?
Are your children couch potatoes planted in front of TV screens for more than two hours a day? TV’s make great, cheap baby sitters that will damage the development of their critical thinking and problem solving skills.
The fact that you claim your children get high test scores from an online charter school is not an indication they will go to college and stick it out to graduate with employable skills.
More important to their future success is SQ, Social IQ, and that can only be learned in an environment like a well funded brick-and-mortar public school where children are allowed to interact with each other especially through student clubs and elective classes like competitive sports, drama, chorus, music, band, journalism, et al.
I think you either live in a bubble, or the on-line charter school pays you to leave comments on sites like this one.
