The race for California State Superintendent of Public Instruction is dramatic!
Until now, Tuck has been in the lead.
Just moments ago, Tony Thurmond surged ahead by 65,000 votes.
Look here for the latest.
The link takes you to the official state website.
100% of districts have reported partially. The count is not finished. Sit tight.

Although this made my heart jump for joy, I think you misread the results. Thurmond is now 13,469 votes down, .2%, from Tuck. Still, it is a white knuckler and tomorrow LA will be reporting again. So far Tuck is down 11% there. Keep fingers crossed.

Got me, too. Yes, Thurmond is still down by a few. But as you say, Thurmond has led Tuck in LA County since election night.

Clicking on the above link still leads me to a count in which Tuck is ahead by 13,000.

Joshua,
I opened the link a few minutes and saw Thurmond ahead but learned on Twitter that Tony had fallen behind by 13,000. I updated with a new post.

Wrote twice but each time WordPress fouled me up. In the middle of the fire area, mandatory evacuation kept me on the road for three days, and today fire flare up walking distance from my house, PLUS Tuck the Schm…k…has me a nervous and exhausted wreck.

Ellen — so sorry you are in the path of the fires. May you, your house, and the lives and houses of everyone else there be spared!
I just clicked on Diane’s link (above) and I think it now has Thurmond up again — by 3,000. Thurmond has a little under 3,611,972 to Tuck’s 3,608,083 — what is that, about 0.05%?. That’s not as good as being up by 65K — but it beats being behind!

I just checked the latest update and it isn’t that close anymore.
Tony K. Thurmond 4,169,323
Marshall Tuck 4,094,393
100.0% ( 24,312 of 24,312 ) precincts partially
reporting as of November 14, 2018, 8:35 p.m.

A lead of 74,839 votes for Thurmond will be difficult to impossible to overcome this far into the vote count with more than 8.5 million votes counted, but the count can continue all the way to December 7.
“It typically takes weeks for counties to process and count all of the ballots. Elections officials have approximately one month to complete their extensive tallying, auditing, and certification work (known as the official canvass).”
Back on November 6, there were a little more than 3 million ballots to process and that was nine days ago. How many are left to count? I couldn’t find an updated answer to that.

Why did the billionaires pump so much money into this race? From what I understand the Superintendent doesn’t set policy.

“The Superintendent serves as the state’s chief spokesperson for public schools, and provides education policy and direction to local school districts. He also serves as an ex officio member of governing boards of the state’s higher education system.”

The key words are: “provides education policy and direction to local school districts”
Imagine all the damage Tuck will do to the public schools to make them appear worse so it becomes easier for the charter schools industry to lie that they know how to fix the problems and then take over those public schools Tuck trashed through education policy and direction he provided.
Look at all the damage Betsy DeVos is doing at the federal level.
The big difference is DeVos is allowed to get away with what she is doing by Trump and the GOP, but the courts/legal system is causing DeVos some problems in acheiving her goal to destroy the country’s public schools so pirates like her will be free to loot the public purse.

Tuck might run into trouble from California’s courts, governor and legislature.
