You may have noticed that I have posted several times about the importance of electing Tony Thurmond to be the next Superintendent of Public Instruction in California. I do this because California is a very large, very important, very influential state. Even though California is a blue state, the privatizers have a strong Foothold there because there is a concentration of tech billionaires, p.us Eli Broad, who believe that public schools should operate like businesses. It worked for them, so naturally they think it’s right to impose their beliefs on education. These billionaires’ influence is increased by the huge money flow into the state from out-of-State billionaires like Michael Bloomberg of New York City. Currently, the billionaires have placed their bets on Marshall Tuck, a candidate who morphed from banker to charter leader.
Tony Thurmond is a social worker and a legislator. He identifies with the kids he wants to help.
Senator Kemala Harris made a video on behalf of Tony Thurmond. By doing so, she risks alienating the billionaires who play a large role in choosing presidential candidates.
Bravo to Senator Harris!
It is not easy for a person in politics to thumb her nose at the richest people in the state.
She is a woman of principle.
Oh, and by the way, when both Thurmond and Tuck asked for the endorsement of the California Democratic Party, 95% of the delegates endorsed Tony Thurmond. Tuck has the endorsement of the California Republican Party.

I don’t know her (of course) and it may well be brave but it could also have finally trickled UP that there’s a huge group of people who use public schools who aren’t being served at all by charter and voucher promoters.
We’re political orphans, as it were, and there are a lot of us- all incomes, all kinds of people. There’s no competition for our votes and support. We’re just there for the asking.
At this point she could express some lukewarm, vague interest in existing public schools and really corner 85% of the public school family market 🙂

When an alleged Democrat is running for office in California and he is spurned by the Democrat Party and is endorsed by the GOP, what does that say?
FAKE Democrat! FAKE Democrat! FAKE Democrat! FAKE Democrat! FAKE Democrat!
After taking over the Republican Party, the Extremist Alt-Right misleading, lying, fraudulent, conspiracy theory machine, the Walton and Koch brothers Walt-Kochtopus, has been running FAKE Democrats in elections across the country, especially in states that the Democratic Party controls like California.

scary to understand that a good percent of those being controlled by far right ideology do not KNOW that they are espousing far right ideology: the words lie to them, they fall in line

Not on topic. Here is a listing of the states that spend the most and the least on education. It is fascinating. see

Not only not on topic, but not really informative since it’s not adjusted for cost of living.

Of course, the spending numbers reported, are simply the raw numbers. It costs more to operate an educational enterprise in Hawaii or Alaska, due to the logistical costs. New York state also has much higher administrative and overhead costs, than Mississippi.

Please vote for Tony Thurmond ! One thing you can do is go on your Facebook and ask your friends and family to vote for Tony Thurmond. People don’t know who to vote for State Superintendent…they get mixed up with the far right’s coded language about choice and do not realize that out of district charters take money away from neighborhood schools. They are not educated on the money grab and for profit privitazation. Ask a teacher who to vote for ! Get on social media and tell them you are a teacher and please vote Tony Thurmond.
