Senator Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia is a Republican. Her father was governor of the state for three terms. She is a moderate conservative. Within the limits of a red state, she has supported Roe v. Wade, sort of. She has been outspoken on gender issues. She has worked with Democrats to develop legislation to protect victims of sexual assault. She supports stem cell research.
Before the recent hearings, she said she would vote for Brett Kavanaugh.
But, one other fact. She is a graduate of Holton Arms School, the same girls’ school that Dr. Christine Blasey Ford attended some years later than Senator Capito. The alumnae of the school have closed ranks behind Dr. Blasey Ford. They believe her because they remember parties where drinking was common, and girls were pursued and sexually harassed.
How will Senator Capito vote on the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh?
Everyone is watching Senators Susan Collins of Maine, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Heidi Heidtkamp of North Dakota, Joe Donnelly of Indiana, and Joe Manchin of West Virginia (the last three are Democrats in states won by Trump).
Is Senator Capito a wild card?

I would be shocked if Capito did not vote in lockstep with the GOP. As for Collins and Murkowski, fahggedaboutit, they will be good little GOP stooges. The Democrats in the deep red states are in a tough situation, I hope they do the right thing and vote down K-boy. Maybe they are the wild cards?

Democrats in red states are not enough.
At least two Republicans must vote no

I think it’s all hands on deck– it will be easier if a few or several or a lot of US Senators vote NO later this week. D’oh…. From her website: Please call my Washington office at 202-224-6472 or my Charleston office at 304-347-5372. As a WV native I sure heck going to give it the old college try

Loved the True South episode! Listening to Love Tractor’s “Spin Your Partner” brought nostalgic tears to my eyes. Can’t go wrong with following the lessons of either John T. or Diane!

If you want to get sense of how Capito acts, see Sen. Portman in Ohio. She copies him to a “t.”

But Portman didn’t go to Holton Arms. Capito did.

Every Republican senator should get an elevator speech like Sen. Flake did.

and zero silence for them from this point on should they vote to seat a man now known to throw temper tantrums and publicly blame a political party

Republican advertising support for two more incumbents was cut this week. One represents a district in Kansas, home state to the evil Koch Bros. and, the 2nd is in Pennsylvania, where it’s likely that Connor Lamb will beat a GOP puppet of the rich.

The Republicans are pulling their money out of districts they expect to lose. The number is growing.

Kavanaugh may get appointed by the Senate – maybe not – but every incumbant and candidate for Representative in the House and a 1/3 of the Senators will be voted on in November. Protest and call about Supreme Court now – – VOTE IN NOVEMBER
back to Sen. Capito – From Wikipedia (yeh, yeh, it’s Wikipedia but still..)
Sexual assault
Capito is partnering with Democrats Kirsten Gillibrand, Patty Murray, Amy Klobuchar and other bipartisan congresspeople to update the Congressional Accountability Act of 1995, that would “help prevent sexual harassment and discrimination in Congress and create more transparency and accountability in the reporting process for survivors.”[80]

She has kids. So many of these loyalists to the president have kids.
How do these folks explain their votes to their kids.
Worse, how do they explain their blatant support for all things Trump when he says things like “… she didn’t report it…” or separating more kids from families and marching them out in the dark of night
November… November… November…

How to explain blatant support for Trump? Yesterday, Trump used his position to characterize to the public, a female journalist, as “never thinking”. The Whitehouse transcript then published a lie to cover it up.
53% of White women voted for Trump. They are either stupid or scared of the men in their households.

To those who don’t live in W VA, a caution about phoning Caputo’s office from Indivisible:

I think this is excellent advice. I would add three things. First, when these alerts come out, I make a point of thinking of who I know who might live in the state or district that I could contact. I send them the relevant info they need, short script, phone numbers, etc. I also make a point of forwarding relevant posts from Diane that are about their states.
Secondly, to add some background to the Indivisible document, every congressional office has caller id. If the receptionist does not recognize the area code as one from their state or district, it will likely go to voice mail. Consider this if you’ve kept an old area code on your cell phone after moving.
Finally, there is one exception to the NEVER rule: a personal connection. The subject of this post is, after all, the Capito-Holton Arms link. Few if any of them are her constituents. Perhaps that’s why I’m cynical that they’ll have an impact. But I might be and hope I’m wrong. It’s worth exploring. Personal connections matter. You never know.

Also–& I think I made a similar comment on another post–people in Georgia, contact your state board of elections & check your registration. This morning, Greg Palast (election fraud expert) reported that there is, indeed, serious voter purge going on there
(anyone thinking that those in good ole GA are going to allow Stacey Abrams to just slide on into the governor’s office, think again…& take action!)
Fight for Stacey & against election fraud in GA!
