The New York Times reports that the White House is limiting the scope of the FBI investigation of Brett Kavanaugh.
“WASHINGTON — President Trump said on Saturday that the F.B.I. will have “free rein” to investigate allegations of sexual misconduct against Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh, but the emerging contours of the inquiry showed its limited scope.
“Four witnesses will be questioned in coming days about aspects of the assault accusations against Judge Kavanaugh, according to two people familiar with the matter. Left off the list were former classmates who have contradicted Judge Kavanaugh’s congressional testimony about his drinking and partying as a student.
“The White House will decide the breadth of the inquiry, though presidential advisers were working in concert with Senate Republicans, said the two people, one a senior administration official, who both spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a sensitive investigation.
“The White House can order investigators to further examine the allegations if their findings from the four witness interviews open new avenues of inquiry, and Mr. Trump seemed to stress that part of the plan in a tweet late on Saturday.”
The credible witnesses to Kavanaugh’s drunken behavior at Yale will not be interviewed.

The White House/GOP limitations on this FAKE FBI inquiry is an indictment of the entire Republican Party and everyone that votes GOP.
Anyone want to start a betting pool that correctly predicts the date when the Civil War breaks out between Trump and the deplorable GOP (not the Republican Party of yore but a facade that works for the Charles Koch/ALEC dominated libertarian Party that owns the GOP) and the rest of the country?

The White House is not permitting the FBI to talk with classmates at Georgetown Prep and Yale because they would prove his perjury. Those classmates and the charge of perjury mist be fully investigated if the integrity of The Supreme Court is to be trusted. Ann Arbor (Informed Comment) – What in the world is wrong with self-identified Republicans in the United States. I mean, look, I’m a historian and a world traveler. I get that different people have different ways of looking at the world, different norms and customs. It is to be expected. But the blatant amorality of GOP voters, at least as they represent themselves in the polling, baffles me. Morality ought to be equally distributed across parties, like immorality. People are people.
But as Newsweek notes, an Economist/YouGov poll has found that 55% of Republicans hold that even if Brett Kavanaugh sexually assaulted a woman when he was in high school, that would not disqualify him from serving on the Supreme Court….
The question was, if he were actually guilty, should he serve? And a majority of Republicans said he should not be disqualified for this reason. Another 18% said they just didn’t know whether it was disqualifying. Really? Attempted rape shouldn’t keep you off the court?
71% of Democrats said that sexual assault is disqualifying. Are they more capable of ethical reasoning, or are they just being partisan and hoping the Democrats can keep their 5-4 majority on the court, which Kavanaugh would permanently throw out?…

This is the report on several internet news sites.
Trump’s Tweets apparently created a false impression that the investigation would be more open. Trump deliberately put out messages to create false hope that the FBI will find something significant. The law that authorizes FBI investigations at the descrettion of the President (and his cronies) and limits the scope of these to a specific list of informants means that the “findings” are likely to settle nothing. There is no reason to TRUST “the Whitehouse” or any of Trump’s Tweets.

You think this is a miscarriage of justice and an abomination of democracy? Bernie Sanders calls for FBI to investigate whether K told truth in hearing

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) on Saturday sent a letter to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) demanding that the FBI, in addition to investigating sexual assault allegations against Supreme Court nominee Brett K, also examine the truthfulness of K’s statements made under oath Thursday before the Senate panel.
“In order for the FBI investigation regarding Judge Brett K’s nomination to be complete, it is imperative the bureau must not only look into the accusations made by Dr. [Christine Blasey] Ford, Deborah Ramirez and Julie Swetnick, it should also examine the veracity of his testimony before the Judiciary Committee,” Sanders wrote in the letter.
Sanders, who tweeted the letter Saturday morning, wrote on Twitter, “Lying to Congress is a federal crime. … K’s truthfulness with the Senate goes to the very heart of whether he should be confirmed to the court.”…
Sanders also said the FBI investigation should not be constrained to one week, as has been agreed to by multiple Republican senators.
