Go to democracynow.org & watch yesterday’s (Democracy Now!) broadcast. The father is interviewed, & the incident is shown a number of times: it is clear that Kavanaugh actually turned his back on Mr. Greenblatt {you can see a security person or whoever walk up AFTER Kavanaugh turns away from the father).
It is disgraceful.
Please contact the mayors of Dayton and Findlay at their sites concerning their co-hosting of the Gates sponsored Summit on Sept. 10 at OSU. (Eventbrite) They’ve invited Johnathan Friedman, who co-wrote papers with Chetty and who is an Impatient Optimist (PR that gags) and Hanushek. If the response I received is to be believed, Mayor Whaley (a Democrat) didn’t know Gates/Hanushek/Friedman are privatizers.
Here is part of a form letter that I received from Joe Donnelly. [D-IN] I wrote him a letter complaining that he still can’t bring himself to vote “No” on the confirmation of Kavanaugh.
……..
On August 15, 2018 I was able to meet with Judge Kavanaugh and we had a substantive conversation about his record, experience working in the George W. Bush Administration and serving on the federal bench, as well as his views on the role of the Supreme Court. We also discussed a range of issues including precedent, health, and judicial independence. Hoosiers rightfully expect careful and thoughtful consideration of a nomination to our nation’s highest court, and I am following Judge Kavanaugh’s Senate Judiciary Committee hearings closely.
I have long said that the confirmation of a Supreme Court justice should not be taken lightly and deserves careful consideration and open debate. I believe that part of my job as a Senator is to thoroughly consider judicial nominations, and I will continue to take the same approach as I have previously in reviewing a nominee for a Supreme Court vacancy. I will carefully review and consider the record and qualifications of Judge Kavanaugh in the coming weeks. As I do, I will be sure to keep your thoughts in mind.
If you want your day brightened, call Nike and thank them for selecting Kaepernick. 1-800-806-6453, press 0 to talk to a person. They were very appreciative of my call.
The racists in the right wing have organized calls to belittle the company for its decision.
Let Nike personnel hear decency to overcome the ugliness, please call.
Late Night had the perfect response to the hypocrisy of those broadcasting their Nike product burnings on social media. They were told to do it in privacy.
Linda: Thanks for the Nike information. I just called and the customer service man was totally delighted to hear from me. He said the negativity the first day was really strong. He took my name. i’m glad to have put it on the list of supporters.
Why Trump Loves Nike Almost as Much as He Loathes Colin Kaepernick
When Trump bragged that ‘Nike is a tenant of mine,’ he forgot to mention that the company had left Trump Tower to build a new Nike Town elsewhere.
Trump Tweet: “Just like the NFL, whose ratings have gone WAY DOWN, Nike is getting absolutely killed with anger and boycotts. I wonder if they had any idea that it would be this way? As far as the NFL is concerned, I just find it hard to watch, and always will, until they stand for the FLAG!
NFL ownership is racist that’s why Kaepernick was blackballed. I bought my first Nike item today at a Nike store. The clerks expressed appreciation for customers who believe in Kaepernick’s cause.
“Davis Logsdon, a professor of linguistics at the University of Minnesota, said that a team of language experts under his supervision has studied the Op-Ed word by word and is ‘in a state of disbelief’ that someone currently working for Donald J. Trump could have written it.
‘There are complete sentences, there are well-structured paragraphs, there is subject-verb agreement,’ he said. ‘This does not appear to be the work of any White House staffer we’re familiar with.’ ”
Me, too!! Thanks to Diane for posting a link for us a while back: I’ve been getting his bits e-mailed (& forwarding them) ever since, so have been laughing for quite a while.
He’s going to be performing live at the Chicago Theatre in late Sept.
I’m going to try to go w/some friends, if we can get good seats that aren’t too much $$ (the last time my husband & I went to the C.T., we saw Robin Williams–& had lousy {& they weren’t even the cheapest ones} seats {they were actually by a post, & we had to watch the giant screen on the right}; such a disappointment, but how lucky were we to see Robin’s show!)
When I meet 2nd Amendment zealots, I tell them, “I’m with you. In fact I think we should all have personal nuclear weapons. How can a simple machine gun protect you against an oppressive government? Its military has nukes; I’ll have a fighting chance only if I have nukes too.”
Kavanaugh and Florida’s DiSantis, both are endorsed by Trump. Share Blue reported that Di Santis moderates a Facebook page that attracts racists, conspiracists, etc. Paint me surprised.
Speaking of Cory Booker, hope y’all stayed tuned and listened to him this evening at Kavanaugh’s throat like a terrier, hitting all the marks & no softball questions.
We all love to hate on Booker for his purely-awful education record in NJ (& no signs of backtracking since in Senate, on ed questions). In fact, I have to admit I purposely sat out the Booker-Lonergan special election to replaced deceased Sen Frank Lauterberg cuz I was so furious w/Booker [but if I’d thought rwnutjob Lonergan had a chance in hell, I would have voted for Booker]… We love to say he’s a neoliberal who will vote as big donors dictate.
Since that election, I’ve had the oppty to observe Booker in action on CSPAN, on the Senate floor, & am somewhat mollified. On many other progressive issues, especially privatized prisons, voter suppression & affirmative action, he is right in there fighting w/an eloquent tongue. I’m thinking it may be worth trying to educate him about “school choice.”
If you are a constituent, you should take this argument into one of his local offices and then request a personal meeting with him restating it once again.
Good advice, GregB. Now I will think on that. Have never stuck head out of shell beyond regular email exchanges w/my Rep Congressman Leonard Lance…. eek!
Booker is dishonest, but he’s no fool: he sees which way the winds in the Democratic Party are blowing – Leftward – and is adjusting his sails accordingly.
With his vapid rhetoric, his insipid tone, his crying on cue at certain points in his speeches, he still should not be trusted.
Shhhh, don’t tell anybody but I voted for Booker over that crazed Steve Lonegan. And then a year later, I voted for Booker again over some really hyper conservative GOPer. It was Booker or the GOP libertarian or don’t vote. He’s horrible and deplorable on education but so was Obama; Obama gave us Kagan and Sotomayor, a big plus.
bethree5: I have had several in moderation recently, including one at the present time. Diane must spend quite a bit of time looking for these moderation postings. How does she find time to check items in moderation, find new articles for her blog, make individual comments and write a book?

I know I’ve said it before, but it bears repeating: If I’m up early enough, I start mornings w/ an hr or so of CSPAN’s Wash Jrnl show. From then till midnight, all my spare time between teaching & chores et al is devoted to dianeravitch.net, where I glean Diane’s POV & exchange views w/this distinguished company. Reserving only 10-20mins GoogleNews, MSNBC, CNN to catch a blurb from the DC bubble.

Diane: I wonder what Trump will do now that he realizes he can’t trust anyone. He is lashing out on Twitter and is becoming more and more unhinged. With the power that he has, and the worthless sycophantic GOP , this is not good.
The speculation is Nick Ayers wrote the letter and Pence knew about it. Nick’s a very ambitious fellow. His ethics or lack thereof were described in a published profile available on-line.
carolmalaysia: He will start a nuclear war because it would not, in his mind, affect him or his family.
He is like some people I’d heard of who were angry with their neighbors in the apartment next door, so they broke into that apartment, set it on fire, then returned to their own apartment & closed the door, very pleased at their method of revenge.
There is no ‘conservative bias in the judge’s rulings’? What has Alex Swoyer been reading?
This was just posted from the WH:
Bar Association Lauds Kavanaugh: ‘What We Saw Was an Allegiance to the Law’
-The Washington Times
“Judge Brett Kavanaugh is not only qualified to sit on the Supreme Court but is at the ‘top of the stream,’ the American Bar Association told senators Friday, delivering a powerful statement of support for President Trump’s nominee,” Alex Swoyer reports. “The ABA also shot down Democrats’ charges that there was a pattern of conservative bias in the judge’s rulings,” she writes.
Ex-Nixon aide John Dean warns of a high court too deferential to president
Seung Min Kim, The Washington Post Published 4:43 pm PDT, Friday, September 7, 2018
WASHINGTON – John Dean, the former Nixon White House counsel who played a crucial role in the Watergate scandal, testified Friday that confirming Judge Brett Kavanaugh as a justice will lead to the “most presidential-powers friendly” Supreme Court in the modern age.
The sharp criticism was laid out in Dean’s remarks before the Senate Judiciary Committee on the last day of Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearings. More than two dozen witnesses testified in favor of and against President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court pick.
Dean argued in his testimony that conservatives have “slowly done a 180-degree turn” on executive power and that a Supreme Court that is overly deferential to the president is “deeply troubling,” with Republicans controlling both the House and Senate.
“Under Judge Kavanaugh’s recommendation, if a president shot someone in cold blood on Fifth Avenue, that president could not be prosecuted while in office,” Dean told senators, a reference to Trump’s oft-repeated campaign line that he could act that way and not lose support.
Dean elaborated on his prepared testimony to the committee, in which he said: “There is much to fear from an unchecked president who is inclined to abuse his powers. That is a fact I can attest to from personal experience.”
Booker Asks Kavanaugh To Recuse From SCOTUS Trump Votes
Booker asks Kavanaugh to promise to recuse himself from cases involving Trump. Yahoo News: “New Jersey Democratic Sen. Cory Booker sent a letter to Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh Friday asking the judge to pledge to recuse himself from “any case that pertains to the special counsel’s investigation or that otherwise may immediately impact the President and his associates as it relates to the ongoing criminal investigation.’ In the letter obtained Friday by Yahoo News, Booker said his concern is based on past comments Kavanaugh made indicating that he believes ‘a sitting President cannot be criminally indicted, or even be investigated. This is a unique situation: President Trump could effectively be choosing his own judge, contrary to basic principles of the rule of law. Your recusal would eliminate that possibility,’ Booker wrote.”
