Mike Klonsky reflects on our current gun-happy Secretary of Education, who wants to let schools buy guns with money intended for education, and her predecessor Arne Duncan, who bought high-powered guns to track down students who defaulted on their loans.
Who knew?

Absurd and really obscene. I am still wearing orange.

What the … Duncan!

Arne and DeVos are kindred spirits in an elitist bubble. They both suffer from too much lead between the ears and a shared gun obsession. Neither of them has any meaningful solutions for education.

BTW, Duncan was not on Bill Maher this week, There’s no show next week, and he was not on the list for the following week either.

I’m hoping that Bill (& his producers) had second thoughts (perhaps people talked to them) & that, instead, he states that he will NOT have Arne on his show to shill his book & explain that the reason is that Arne spouts nonsense & only opens his mouth to give himself a high profile (& to make $$$$!!!).* I went to see him a few weeks ago, & it appears he’s been reading (yes!) Diane’s blog, because he made a LOT of pro-teacher comments. When I have more time, I will write more about the event (it was nice, because we could attend the luncheon paying only for lunch & not having to buy the book which, of course, I didn’t {but I did read it to come prepared; I did NOT buy it &, no, I didn’t, as Abbie Hoffman once wrote “Steal this Book!”}).
*Hoping that Bill will refer to the absence of Arne from his guest list with his usual (& oft hilarious) snark in his monologue.

an interesting possibility: COULD public response finally be AFFECTING what clueless “reformers are great” journalists decide to say/promote?

I hope this is correct. Duncan is on a press tour for the book I hope nobody buys.

I read almost everything you post and believe everything as well. This SWAT thing had me google “Kenneth Wright, Stockton, CA” however… I can (almost) rest assured that a couple of people I know will not have a SWAT team surrounding them.

Oh, & I forgot to mention that I was astonished (!) to NOT hear (or read, anywhere, & you know if he were going to do this, he would have it shouted o’er the rooftops!)) that Arne would be giving a portion of the book’s profits to some worthy educational or children’s cause, such as Chicago’s After School Matters (where he once worked) or No Kid Hungry.
I know…one of you commenters just as sarcastic as I am (or more so) is going to reply,”What profits?” We hope…don’t see it on The New York Times Best Seller List.
Or even in Chicago, where all his sycophants (they even purchased entire tables at this very fancy luncheon; someone very seriously told me, “That’s a table of all of his old basketball buddies.”) wildly applauded him & rushed up to drool all over him & to get their books signed.
BTW, I wasn’t able to ask any questions (the talk was very short, the few questioners called on very long, & very little Q-&-A time was afforded; gee, I wonder why?).
& where were all you not-fans-of Arne? (I read the guest list, & no public school parent {& opt-out leaders) activists were there, nor any retired CPS educators I knew.)

Despite Arne’s book tour, the book seems to be sinking fast on amazon’s list of bestsellers. I looked this morning and it was about #13,000.

Sorry it was so controlled. I suppose we should have anticipated that.
