Elections have consequences. In the last Los Angeles school board election, charteristas took control of the school board by one vote. Their fourth vote, however, is tenuous b3cause Ref Rodriguez is awaiting trial on felony charges of campaign finance violations.
The board voted not to renew the contract of the district’s inspector general. He led several investigations into charter school corruption.
The board said they were terminating him due to a “hostile work environment” in his office, although none of the complaints were about him.
The inspector general investigated the Billion-dollar iPad scandal.
The financial scandals at the Celerity charter chain.
Fraud at the PUC charter chain started by Ref Rodriguez.
But this can’t be the reason he is being ousted, right?
While it’s always difficult to find out what’s really going on at the IG’s office, there are two major indications that the charter majority is not happy with him. The first hint was their attempt to weaken the IG role, which failed.
The second hint is that Garcia, Melvin and Gonez, all charter funded board members, voted to not renew his contract. What more does anyone need to know????
Thank you for posting, Diane, and shining a light on the corruption.
First the charter lobby tried to legislate its way out of oversight. Having failed to get the support of lawmakers for their deregulation agenda, now they do it by letting appointed staff go. This is straight out of Trump’s playbook.
I’m sorry for hijacking the thread, but you’ve got to read this: https://www.rollingstone.com/culture/news/mit-scientists-unveil-first-psychopath-ai-norman-w521217?utm_source=rsnewsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_content=daily&utm_campaign=060718_16
Now we’re intentionally creating psychopathic AI?? And we wonder what the he– is wrong with this country. The “Best and Brightest” strike again.
Good GAWD. SICK.
Melvoin and Gonez (and presumably Garcia and Ref Rod would have if they ran) said that they were were anti-Devos, and anti-Trump, to play to their progressive base.
But can anybody deny the similarity between this move and Devos gutting the departments that monitor …
1) for-profit college corruption
and
2) civil rights violations?
… as just as Devos is, they are dutifully following the marching orders of the corporate masters who poured millions and millions into their campaigns.
This is sending a signal to the current charter operators:
“Steal all you want! We won’t be stopping you.”
It’s simultaneously sending a message to corrupt charter operators outside of Los Angeles
“Hey, you wanna get rich stealing taxpayer money running corrupt charters? L.A.s’ now the place for that. *Come on over to L.A. and get rich!”
