Was the board’s secret vote legal?
Is the sky blue?
Is Bill Gates rich?
Did Arne Duncan get his gig at DOE cuz he shoots hoops?
Is VAM a randumb number generator?
Does Michelle Rhee like broomsticks and firing ( scarecrow)?
….
Should be was it IL- legal
I think they should subpoena every bit of correspondence that board members had with anyone in the reform movement, including every group funded in any way by Broad, Walton, Gates, and other billionaires who think that they should decide what the school board does.
This should be an impeachable offense. Let the recall efforts begin! Especially Nick Melvoin, who has been very dishonest with the people in his district as to who he believes are his bosses. It is not the people who live in his district but the people who gave millions to elect him.
Even if the vote was illegal, it will take a fight in court to determine that, and for sure the billionaires funding the privatizing of everything to profit … from dismantling the power of the US Constitution … will spend more than a ton in their attempt to defeat or stop any valid attack on their autocratic, power-hungry, fascist, racist, greed-and-hate driven agenda.
Regardless of the outcome from the complaint, people are up in arms over the 10 day gap between the closed session on April 20 and the next one on May 1st after which Beutner’s appointment was announced. There is little doubt that the announcement was delayed to prevent Beutner’s detractors from mobilizing an organized opposition in the interim.
Groups are organizing already to object to Beutner’s hiring at the Tues., May 15 board meeting and to demand the resignation of Ref Rodriguez. This is not going away!!!!!!
I knew it! It WAS illegal. Kudos to the East Area Progressive Democrats who got this violation of California’s Brown Act to the attention of the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office. Crime doesn’t pay, Ref Rodriguez.
And another thing, there was an article in the LA Times recently about Rodriguez resigning from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing, and in it was the suggestion that he might be staying on the Board to use his salary to pay attorney fees, and — get this — because he’s planning to use his seat on the Board and all of the children in Los Angeles public schools as a bargaining chip in a potential plea bargain arrangement. That won’t happen. The district attorney will be far from pleased. The proverbial book will be thrown at him. Who’s this guy’s lawyer, Daffy Duck?
Ref Rodriguez previously got a gift of $75,000 from billionaire Reed Hastings to pay his legal fees.
How is that $75,000 “gift” not an illegal bribe?
Diane,
If you don’t mind, please delete what I wrote about SBAC as soon as you can. My understanding is that what I wrote was not specific enough information to be in violation of the gag order we have to annually agree to in order to proctor the test, but better safe than sorry. Thanks.
Will do
Thank you, Diane. Much appreciated.
I will reiterate this for your readers, however, that there are embedded product advertisements in the SBAC tests.
And also testate that Ref Rodriguez ha poor judgment in all affairs.
Whoa, apparently I can walk and chew gum at the same time, but not walk and type on a phone at the same time.
If I were an activist in LA, I would sue.
