Marla Kilfoyle, teacher and executive director of the Badass Teachers Association, wrote this article.
She warns teachers not to fall for the line of bologna (baloney, not “Bali net,” thanks autocorrect!) that they will hear from Andrew Cuomo as he seeks their votes. They will be tempted, but only if they forget that the BATs and other concerned teachers have been fighting Cuomo and his bullying tactics for the past several years.
She writes:
“As NYS teachers we will be embarking on an important choice this primary season.
“We have the opportunity to vote for a truly progressive candidate on September 13, 2018 – Cynthia Nixon.

“I am a NYS teacher, and I am warning my brothers and sisters in New York….
“Don’t fall for the Old Okeydoke this primary season.
“So what is the Old Okeydoke? It is when a trap is set, but a victim still walks right into it.
“Believe me teachers, Cuomo, and others, are setting a trap for you – don’t walk into it.”
Her post reviews Cuomo’s history of ridiculing and demoralizing teachers. How fast can a leopard change his spots?

Cynthia Nixon has already set her Cuomo trap and it’s just a matter of time before Cuomo takes the bait. Cuomo can’t resist a chance to put a woman in her place.
“The Cuomo Trap”
The Cuomo trap is set
And Cynthia just waits
Will Cuomo come? You bet
To put her in her place

Great to re-read the insults from Governor Cuomo. He rivals Secretary Duncan for his ability to create short-sighted anti-teacher sound bites. Would LOVE to see him defeated.

I suppose that would be a good thing . The NY Post is not fit for picking up dog poop with. So Cuomo keeps moving left under pressure and the NY Post a Murdoch rag is upset. .
That would be a good thing on both counts . I do not have to like a politician nor do I have to trust them . Transactional is good enough for me . How many have doubled down in the opposite direction.

Cuomo always takes the right (liberal) positions as long as they don’t have any political cost. But we know in the town of Ramapo that he is a clever sellout.
The Black and Latino parents in our East Ramapo school district wrote letters and signed petitions to Cuomo for years protesting the illegal diversion of funds from public to religious (Hasidic) schools he didn’t even have the courtesy to reply. Finally when the pressure got too great he appointed investigators and “monitors” without any authority. He watered down investigations and fact finding and little has changed. If you want more documentation much can be found on our website preserve-ramapo.com.
Then we have an enormous and ILLEGAL commitment of funds to religious schools that fail to teach the secular subjects required by law.
No one knows the total all of the funds that may or may not actually even go to these schools, but we are talking about easily $100 million. Much of this money goes to religious schools in the East Ramapo school district (26,000 religious school students) while thousands of students a year graduate from religious schools that can barely speak English and know nothing about the outside world including science, math and history. Cuomo, and the New York City board of education ignore their clear legal responsibility. Worse, perhaps, Cuomo has even lauded a secular education that does not exist.

Simple. Cuomo wants the votes of the Hasidim. They vote as a bloc.
