Arizona was once known as the Wild West of Charters. But that was before Ohio, Florida, and Michigan got into the game of giving taxpayer dollars to anyone who wanted to open a school.
Arizona, however, is still the Capital of Charter Corruption, as this article shows. It was written five years ago, but since then, nothing has happened to curtail cronyism, conflicts of interest, or nepotism.
Apparently, taxpayers in Arizona don’t care what happens to their taxes or whose pockets they line.

Well, Diane, I beg to differ. Arizona got an A- on the ed reform “report card”
http://www.alecreportcard.org/state/az/
Of course, the ed reform report card is based on how many ed reform policies a state legislature blindly and stupidly adopts, not actual results, so if you adopt the ALEC agenda you get an A.
It’s circular. Ed reform is good because ed reform is ed reform, which is good.
Easy A.

I thought Ohio was at the top of the list for fraud, waste, abuse, cronyism and the rest.

Do you hear my loud laughter?
The Ed Reform report card is a joke, a fraud, a fake … but I think you know that and you are being ironic.

Here’s an interesting article from Arizona: http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/news/phoenix-news-another-string-of-murders-in-city-of-serial-killers-10058505
The article, naturally, seems to side more with the rephormers, but I think the article is interesting because it shows how these billionaires and their thinky-tanks play poor and minority people. What’s ironic is that the guy fighting for “choice” wouldn’t likely have been able to benefit from it. He probably wouldn’t have gotten in to a place like Great Hearts. If he did, his family probably couldn’t have afforded the “donation” required. And even still he wouldn’t have lasted long there if he was as unfocused as he claims he was. But, of course, groups like Libre aren’t going to tell people like Mr. Alfaro that “choice” means the school chooses, not parents. Ironically, the woman fighting against “choice” probably would have been able to benefit from it because she was a “good” student from a “good” family.

This country has gone DAFT. I hope we recover. We are #1 in awful education deforms, which benefit the ALREADY RICH.
And seems … We are #1 in deceit from those who wield power, because of $$$$$.

Actually, as one of the many volunteers who stood in 110 degree heat this summer collecting signatures to prevent the expansion of the ESA’s in Arizona, I can say there are a great many of us that do not favor or support the state governments constant funding of charter schools. But with many families working hard to support themselves and their children in one of the country’s worst funded educational systems, it is a constant uphill battle. I am happy to report that there are more and more citizens that are through with how education is treated in this state. But we need more “pro-public education” help to fund our efforts to fight off the attacks from the Koch Brothers and DeVos PAC’s that are supplying endless funds to our state legislators, governor, and the Goldwater Institute to rob the public education efforts.

Another charter school, Discovery Creemos Academy, in Goodyear, AZ, has closed without warning, leaving more than 600 children scrambling for a school to attend. Citing financial difficulties – funded by taxpayer money – it is curious as to where all of the money has gone! No state representation has yet commented – and if they do, it will probably be meaningless banter, as the governor and his cronies are in a serious dark money effort to expand the states school voucher system – for the proliferation and profit of charter and private/religious schools!
