At a time when the White House is a source of vulgarity and racism, it is inspiring to read about the young children who entered a contest to display their understanding of Dr. King’s message as it applies today.
I have a dream. My dream is that these young people will spend an hour in the White House tutoring Mr. Trump.

For people who do not subscribe to the Washington Post, ( I am among them) try these two links. The second link has the full speech of the fifth grader. http://abcnews.go.com/Lifestyle/dr-king-dream-graders-inspiring-speech-pays-tribute/story?id=52345730

This is awesome. Thanks.
On a related note, I always try to read at least one MLK speech/essay on this day every year. Here’s my recommendation this year: http://www.hartford-hwp.com/archives/45a/058.html

Many thanks to the public school teachers that continue to keep M.L. King’s legacy of social justice alive. It is important that his message of equity and social justice continues to get passed down from one generation to the next.

I discussed this on this blog before before, but I invite those interested to read the following link in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. When I taught the schools I worked in did not recognize it as a holiday, so I read this to every one of my classes instead: https://college.cengage.com/english/chaffee/thinking_critically/8e/students/additional_activities/p198.pdf
It still resonates, perhaps moreso when considering the occupant of the White House.

My diverse school district took MLK and his teachings very seriously. Classes put on plays, and the school brought in older members of the NAACP to share their civil rights stories. The high school sponsored readings from MLK’s many stirring speeches. It was a community minded event!

“Which is how it should be!” says GregB.
Which is why I so hate it when adults pull children into competition this and competition that in name of MLK.
Please tell me, when did MLK ever stand to make a loser of anybody?
A question I once asked President Obama because I hate even more his Race to the Top Competition… https://files.acrobat.com/a/preview/5bf8393c-1a1b-4d1c-b98e-20a72fd95f43
